Pacific Rendezvous is located in the heart of an exciting stretch of Northland coastline - just 30 minutes drive from Whangarei City. Sited in a comanding position on a peninsula jutting out into the blue Pacific, the Resort overlooks the whole of Tutukaka Harbour with a breathtaking ocean panorama across the deep sea fishing grounds from the historic Poor Knights Islands to the Hen & Chicken Islands. A coastal area where man and nature combine to provide a whole host of things to do - swimming - boating - fishing - surfing - scuba diving - sightseeing and trips to the Poor Knights Islands marine reserve. Deep sea fishing, exciting beaches to discover and explore. Something for all.

This was the third time we have stayed there and the views never disappoint! However the owner wasn't very friendly this time and everything seemed to be difficult for him. Giving him feedback on cleanliness of the room was met with him implying I was lying. So yeah - disappointed as we paid good money to leave with feeling like we were a bother to him for being there.

Stayed at the Pacific Rendezvous for two nights in February – specifically due to the ratings and vicinity of Dive Tutukaka. Ian helped me at check-in and was extremely friendly and helpful! He provided a local map and details on the area, hikes, restaurants, etc. There is a small store connected to the reception desk where you can purchase snacks, beverages, etc. You can also rent a beach towel if needed.
The place is very cozy and clean. I stayed in a studio, which had ocean views from the back patio on the main level and the bedroom upstairs. It’s similar to a duplex and unit is individually owned and managed by Ian and Susan. The units are self-accommodating. The unit does have wifi although it continuously cut in and out for me. The unit I stayed in had AC on the main level but not upstairs, which was exceptionally hot.
Location-wise – it’s pretty secluded and VERY relaxing and quiet. In that aspect, I’d give it 5 stars. On the other end of the spectrum, it is not walkable if you want to be within walking distance of a shops/stores, etc. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe.
There are a few ocean hikes/areas that are private to Pacific Rendezvous – Harbour Beach and Ocean Beach. I already planned to hike Whale Bay and Matapouri Bay, which were a short drive away otherwise I would have explored these two beaches. There is an onsite pool, playground area, tennis court, game room, laundry room, etc.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars (would have given it 4.5 if that was an option) was the AC. There was a fan in the closet, but it was rusty/dusty so did not use it. That said, I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again. The views and ocean sounds are the absolute best if you are looking for some quiet and relaxation.

The property has a lovely location, with some accommodation alternatives having better views than others. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished. The info provided for guests is good. On the negative side, our garbage was not emptied daily--it seems like not a big ask. Also, the property charges a fee for towels to be used in their pool/spa. We've been to many resorts; this was a first and, frankly, seems cheap. Finally, coffee other than instant should be provided in a resort of this type.

Location is great and rooms are clean. The manager couple have been quit dissappointing. Pools are are closed at 08:00 when the welcome guide shows 09:00. Games room has very little to offer and equipment is quite tired.
At first the manager appeared to be friendly but after asking to change rooms to the one that is furthest away from other guests, we felt like being watched day and night. Any behaviour like jumping in the pool was scrutinised and commented on by the manager. (The request to move rooms was not selfish it was based on kur children needing acceptance for being loader than average guests and we sid not want to annoy other guests with noise)
The manager couple also had their family in the resort for the school holidays and it appeared that their main focus was distracted by them.
Great place and we want to return.

overall we enjoyed our time we were upgraded which I was stoked to hear when I called to confirm booking online. But on arrival the room I requested was different, in the end we got the room we asked for it was amazing the views are spectacular. We have stayed here for a few years now in nearly every room and myself and my family have spent a lot of money at this resort over the years. I wanted to see what it was like under the new management. It was a little different - nor sure if I felt the hospitality from the hosts maybe they are still getting into the swing of things and their regular clients. What I notice most about the changes under the new management, no room service daily this is done every 2 days bizarre I have stayed at many hotels and motels and never have I not had clean towels daily - if you are a guest using the spa or pool you are charged for pool towels at a small cost as guests,,,,, not happy at all with this,,,,, you should be given pool towels on arrival and anything extra you are charged. Otherwise bring your own towels, this is not a backpackers hostel and to ask guests to do this is unprofessional. The Pool area was very messy with leaves outside and inside the pool it also had dirt at the bottom and we found googles and Jandals, this area needs attention it is the most used part and the main attraction for guests , customer service was average but needs improving, on the upside - new coffee machine in the shop was great and the spa in the pool area have bubbles finally working so well done to new management. I Stay here over xmas every year and this year no different I look forward to some improvements and better service.

Hi Marama, I am surprised with your comments particularly as you booked and paid for a Deluxe One bedroom unit and I upgraded you to a premier 2 bedroom at no extra cost as you have stayed before and we had the opportunity so maybe check what you book at the time....in any case the room number is not guaranteed. Dailey room service has changed since COVED19 allowing for the "new norm" and gives more privacy to our client particularly for short stays like yours along with less contact between staff and clients but to counter that we have upgraded the quality of all the linen to make this unnecessary and more inline with our goals of reducing wastage and protecting the environment. SPA towels have always been charged as extra and It has always been a rule that room towels are only for use in the room. As far as the pool area is concerned this is always clean and tidy but the bad weather we were having makes it difficult to on top of some days and we cannot be held responsible for a client that has been there just before you arrived.

We first visited Pacific Rendezvous in February this year and we impressed with the location and facilities on offer. As soon as we were able following the relaxation of the Covid-19 lockdown in New Zealand we booked for a longer stay (10 nights). All the facilities were open including the hot spa. The weather for the time of year was bright and temperatures were in the high teens/low 20’s. The views we had from our room (#6) were spectacular even when we had some rough weather.
The room was comfortable and warm and more than adequately equipped for our stay. All the staff were friendly and kept the resort clean, neat and tidy. The on-site shop had been improved from our earlier stay with a wide variety of goods, tins, some fresh vegetables, bread & milk plus a small selection of wine and beers.
Ian & Sue who operate the site cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable- any problem is soon resolved.
We would thoroughly recommend this location to walkers, surfers, anglers and divers or simply to relax as it’s position on the Tutukaka coast is second to none. We will be back again when we are able.

We only spent one night here and wished we had allowed for more. We had a one bedroom apartment that opened up to the most stunning ocean views. The apartments have everything you need if you wanted to stay a few nights and eat in but the location is only 5 mins from the Tutukaka township which has several eating out options so not a problem. We found Ian, the Manager to be great when we were chatting via email and equally as pleasant in person as were all the staff we encountered. Thoroughly recommend.

Absolutely superb in every respect. Privately owned units managed by a thoroughly professional couple who can't stop smiling at the good fortune of the truly spectacular location. Spotless unit set within the sanctuary of a private peninsular with views to die for and with its own private beach. Multiple pristine beaches, excellent walks and dining opportunities ranging from fish and chips to great restaurants only a short drive away. A stay at the Pacific Rendezvous should be on everybody's bucket list.

Was charged $20 for a towel change on my second day. I checked out in person and no one discussed this with me. No invoice presented. I am not sure how thats even legal? The location and facilities are great but the new owners make you feel unwelcomed.

We are sorry you feel that way but you seemed pretty happy until you got the charge so super unfair to accuse us of bad management. It is made clear when you check in and in the guest information that if you do not have your own beach towels that we can provide them at a small cost of $1.50 for the duration of usage. You chose to bring them back and get fresh ones the next day so don't understand your comments. Also it is stated that if you request additional service that a charge will be applied and $10 is not really excessive.

I really don't want people to know about this place because I would rather it remain a secret. But in all fairness to PRRM and the owners/managers, Ian and Sue, their place deserves serious consideration and praise. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable, clean, efficiently run resort, look no further when you visit this part of New Zealand. This is not Vegas, this is not glitz and glamour, this is pure and simple stunning beauty. Hawaii has nice beaches, but they are crowded with tourists. The Tutukaka area beaches are gorgeous and amazing and NOT crowded!! We spent 10 days here in paradise and hope to return as soon as possible, too bad its such a long way from Colorado!! :( Check their website pictures to see this little piece of serenity and peace.
