If looking for quality time away from the constant city buzz, Longbourne Lodge Motel is the place to be. Our host was so hospitable and kind.
All amenities available and very neat rooms. Drying towels are changed daily. Adequate heating in all rooms.

Beautiful vegetation surrounds the motel from all sides, complementing the eye-catching, maroon-colored roofs. Imagine waking up to a fresh breeze coming from the nearby hills.

The motel is easily accessible from the State Highway 1 and also close to the shopping centre.

Our kids really loved the place and will definitely stay at Longbourne Lodge Motel again.

This country motel is delightful. It is a series of spacious units on a rural block and has lots of space, very comfy bed and a good feel. The manager was friendly and helpful and the location is near enough to Mosgiel to have shops and restaurants close enough but without any of the town noise.

We had a great few nights staying at the Longbourne while visiting Dunedin. We initially decided on this place because it was pet friendly and we like to travel with our 2 wee dogs. They have a great off-leash area where the dogs could chase rabbits to their heart’s content. The location is peaceful, several km out of Mosgiel and about 15 minutes into Dunedin. We really enjoyed the rural setting. The units were comfortable, cozy, spotlessly clean, and nicely furnished. We had TV, free Wifi, and a decent little kitchenette where we prepared some of our meals. We received a very warm welcome from the friendly hosts and very much felt at home on the property. We would definitely recommend this place to other travelers and would stay here again, given the opportunity.

Booked 2 bedroom family cottage 5 weeks prior to arrival which was confirmed by email at the time with Visa details provided. Arrived to be told that family cottage was not available as plumbing issues. However, observed that both family cottages had families staying in them. Was told we were now in 2 studio units. Alas no heat pump which was provided in 2 bedroom cottage (was forced to negotiate 2 x 5 fin oil heaters, as blow heaters on 45 minute timers and one small panel heater would not be enough for the minus 3 we had at night there for my asthmatic grandchild) Alas no full kitchen with oven available in the family cottage either..2 kitchenettes do not equal one full kitchen. Yes they upped the insult, when they took the quoted 2 bedroom family cottage rate out of my bank account. Buyers beware ... that you get the room they confirm with you and that they don't help themselves to more money than they should. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Response from , Owner at Longbourne Lodge Motel
Responded Jan 15, 2022
Our apologies for the late response to this review, Astrid. We didn’t receive notification that you had kindly taken the time to leave one. We are genuinely sorry that you didn’t enjoy your stay. As you describe, there was a plumbing problem in the family cottage you had booked and the plumber had to have a part couriered in from out of town, meaning an immediate repair was not possible. To have put you into the unit you had originally booked would have left you without a functioning toilet. We telephoned other motels in the region in order to try to find you alternative accommodation, but due to heavy bookings in the area, no other motel could accommodate a family of five. The guests that were originally booked in the two interconnecting studios we relocated your family into were part of a family group staying here – the rest of their family were accommodated right next to the original unit you had booked. When they heard of the plumbing dilemma, they very kindly offered to swap units saying they didn’t mind popping into their family next door when they wanted to “spend a penny.” As we advised when you checked in, we had two options available; either to swap your units or to cancel your booking only four hours before you were due to check in. Our family cottages are a very “price friendly” option for travelling families. You are correct that you were only charged the amount of your original booking; had you been charged for the units you actually stayed in, this would have been an additional $50.00 per night. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us, Astrid. We always try our best to ensure our guests have a wonderful experience when they stay, however unfortunately in life unexpected problems such as a plumbing issues do occur which can eventuate in disappointment or expectations not being met.

We stayed in unit #4 for 3 nights. The owners/managers were very nice and welcoming, allowing us to check in early. They also promptly addressed a couple of minor problems we had with our unit, which was very clean.

The unit was adequate for our needs, although it was definitely cozy in the living/dining/kitchenette room. The unit could have used a coffee table in the living room. The dining table was also smaller than we would have liked. The bathroom was a decent size, although it had a small sink. The bed was comfortable and we slept well during the night; however, there is some road noise in the morning.

The Longbourne Lodge is located quite some distance outside of central Dunedin. It’s in a nice countryside setting and it is very quiet at night. The downside is that going into Dunedin for a nice dinner is a bit of a drive, 15-20 minutes.

Chose this outlet as wanted a good night's sleep prior to rising early to catch a 6:30 flight the next morning. Found our unit to be of the highest quality .Bed was comfy, and bathroom and kitchen were both spacious. Unit heating was fine. "Wakeup" call was appreciated.
Setting is somewhat rustic; we arrived late afternoon and it was raining lightly so we did not have the opportunity to wander the grounds. View from unit however showed a vast mown area and one can imagine that in the warmer months it would be an ideal setting for families to enjoy the facilities.
Owners very obliging and they obviously take great pride in what they have achieved. Apparently the complex in 2008 comprised only four units, so their hard work has obviously paid dividends.

Excellent, even has a Car Port beside each individual Chalet/ cottage. We normally
Stay in Dunedin ,but many places were on noisy main roads, nowhere we would stay.
When driving through Dunedin it was “ seemed “ full of road works packed. glad to finally drive through this time.. Approx 14 Kim’s to Mosgiel. So no problem. Found the small town surprisingly good with all Facilities including big Countdown Supermarket. The Motel
Was a few Kim’s outside the town, Bueatiful setting , vey quiet.Rooms great with all you need for self catering.

Unit modern, very well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Every item in working order.
Beautiful rural views and general feeling of spaciousness. Owners very friendly and helpful. Really excellent and generous breakfast

On the downside, property very hard to locate after dark, being out in the country,
which means one has to travel into Mosgiel for evening meal. Also, parking is at a distance from the unit over gravel, which suitcase wheels do not like!
Would we stay again? Probably, but not in a garden studio unit, as access very difficult for older persons with limited mobility.

Was such a great place to stay, units are really spaced out and private, very clean, spacious and comfortable inside. Beautiful grounds with excellent dog facilities if you’re wanting to take your furry friends with you. We struggle to find accommodation that is actually dog friendly so this was such a nice experience. Close to everything you need. Owners both seemed very nice and welcoming. We will definitely be back :)
