Our group had another excellent stay at the lodge with Jo and Kevin. Our second time and we will be back. Lovely home cooked meals were a highlight and close to Hutt, Porters and the exciting Olympus ski field.

We stayed for a weekend break and it was fantastic! The hosts Jo & Kev are very welcoming and attentive, accommodating all our needs. It was great to sit around the fireplace and partake in intellectual conversation with them and fellow guests, enjoying tasty cheese and wine. Dinner was exceptionally delicious and there was plenty for everyone. The beds were comfortable, the rooms toasty warm, and the pitch n putt outside is great fun for a golfing duel with comrades surrounded by a backdrop of snowy mountain peaks. However, the highlight has to be the hot tub. Sitting outside soaking under a spectacular starry sky, watching shooting stars and identifying constellations is a treasured memory. We hope to return for another stay when we need to recharge our souls again, in this beautiful wilderness area.

Accomodations are basic (I had the lowest priced room) and place is clean. Kevin and Jo are very nice and accomodating hosts. Dinner is above average. Some coffee and eggs for breakfast would have been nice given the price. I was walking southbound on the Te Aroroa and needed transport to Methven, which cost $129. In my opinion thats ridiculous for a 30-45 minute drive. The small chip and put outside and the homey living room area with wood burning stove, comfy couches and books gives the place some charm.

Very expensive for what it was. Beware the luxury ensuite option as in reality it is one third of a skyline garage . Dirty and poorly maintained. This is really backpacker accommodation. Breakfast was poor. A bit of cereal and two slices of bread cost $20 per person. Dinner was ok. Ask questions before you book and check prices. The lodge is alongside the hydro power station the lake being five kilometres away.

We are devastated to read your review. We are a husband and wife team and pride ourselves on providing a unique and friendly high country experience. We spent quite some time chatting with you during your stay so are disappointed that you didn’t share that feedback directly to us so we could have had the opportunity to discuss it further with you. We are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations and really hope the rest of your stay in New Zealand is positive.
