If you are driving to Niokolo-Koba National Park from Dakar, Wassadou Lodge is an excellent place to stop. You will arrive in time for a sundown drink overlooking a bend in the Gambia River, and admire hippos, monkeys, storks, eagles, and simply enjoy the peace and quiet. The rooms are simple, and they cut the electricity around 8 PM. The restaurant is simple (the menu item changes each day) but good. They have their own bread oven. The owner will help you find a guide for Niokolo-Koba National Park, if you are going there the following morning. The national park is about a 25 minute drive further south/east.

This hotel is on a beautiful bluff above The Gambia River. The food was excellent and the room, an individual hut type building was comfortable though the shower was poor. The hotel is remote and has no WiFi. Great place to relax by the river and watch the sun go down with a beer. Beautiful trees and wildlife. Stayed here 3 nights and was very impressed watching the baboons settling into their trees for the night, close by. The river has great birdlife and Egyptian Plover and African Finfoot were easy to see.

We stayed here for three nights during our stay at the Niokolo-Koba national park. Although it’s not a high-end place, the food was good, and the staff was very nice. There was electricity and running water. The beds were clean and the rooms were nice. You could sit out overlooking The Gambia River and see hippos most nights. I really enjoyed my time here

We spent one night here because we had heard from friends it was a good hotel. The location on the river is gorgeous and the wildlife boat tour we took just before sunset was my favorite part of our stay. We saw hippos, baboons, and lots of great birds and the guide was very knowledgeable. Our room was clean and the mattress very good, but the bathroom was so tiny we could barely fit in it and it needs updating. The staff was courteous but they seemed more attentive to the French tour groups there than to us...we were left waiting for a long time for our dinner & felt completely forgotten in the dining room. The food is very basic and a bit overpriced, but for 1 night on a holiday it was fine.

We are from Hungary and travelled with the rally Budapest-Bamako. They found this place during the recon mission and they did it very well! I would never reach this camp with another solution, and with a guided tour it is not so interesting. We arrived by car from Budapest, Hungary and spent there a wonderful night in a very simple small african bungalow with only two bed and we needed nothing else. We have heared the monkeys during the night, have seen the footprints of the hypos and wathced the river and the sky until midnight. I will never forget this, never. Thanks for everything. For those who are interested: this is a simple cheap campsite NOT a hotel, I told you! :-)
