I stayed at El Paraiso for two nights after a work trip to Buenos Aires. Learning to ride has been an ambition of mine for a long time and I thought this might be a good place to do so - it was! The accomodation is basic and very much a work in progress - not the place for anyone who prefers large hotels with all mod-cons. There is a great sitting room and a terrace that is perfect for relaxing on between rides and loads of space in the garden, with a football pitch that would be brilliant if travelling with kids. The bedrooms are clean and, most importantly, the beds are really comfortable. The location is supremely peaceful and surrounded by farmland with very few houses. It only took 1hr to get to El Paraiso from Central Buenos Aires, so it's really convenient too. There is an abundance of wildlife, particularly birds, and I saw more eagles, hawks and owls than I've ever seen anywhere in the world. The two resident dogs, Dollar and French, are great company and often accompanied us on our rides. The riding was a real highlight. I was on a horse within two hours of arriving and having started the first day on a docile beast called Pepe I progressed quickly to riding a polo pony on day two, by which time I was learning to gallop in one of the massive fields adjacent to El Paraiso. The teaching was informal and entirely through experience on the horse. Working at speed in the fields was followed, still on horseback, by relaxing walks on the many tracks that weave between the surrounding farmland. Andre and Alejandro are both experienced horsemen and polo players, so well qualified to teach first timers as well as advanced riders who may want to pick up a stick as well. Both speak English well. In between riding, there was plenty of time to put your feet up and read a book, play cards etc. The resort was between chefs when I visited so Andre and Alejandro, my two hosts, were busy in the kitchen, helped by Alejandro's girlfriend and another lady. They were supremely attentive throughout, with nothing proving too much trouble. All food and drinks are included in the nightly rate, including beer and wine, which is a nice touch. The culinary highlight was an Asado on Sunday. Amazing steak, morcilla and lovely salads and potatoes to accompany all the meat. I ate so much I had to go have a sleep. They are planning on introducing their own organic vegetables and chickens by next year. All in all, a thoroughly great place to relax after some time in Buenos Aires, with great people, good food, and in very peaceful surroundings.

I really enjoyed my stay at El Paraiso. I most liked the cosy living room with the big fireplace. The food and service was great, the personnel welcoming and very friendly. A wonderful place for horse lovers.
