In 2010, our family opened Bara Beach Bungalows at the far end of Bara Beach. We couldn’t wait to share this beautiful place with other travellers in the hopes that they fall in love with Bira the way that we did. Our Beachfront Bungalow and Restaurant overlook the clear blue waters of Flores Sea. Each Bungalow comes with an ensuite bathroom and private terrace with a garden view. Here at Bara Beach Bungalows we offer free on-site parking and have a couple of scooters to rent for those who like to explore. Our team continuously looks forward to welcoming guests and friends from around the world.

Detailed Reviews
On the map, Bira looks relatively "close" to Makassar, and most reviews say that it is a popular weekend destination. But don't be fooled by the map, it is rather a day-trip of about 6 hours to get from Makassar to Bira.
But this is certainly worth it, once you have seen the beautiful white beach and the amazing colour of the water! All taken into account, we would recommend to stay at least 3 nights or more to be able to enjoy this fully.
We were there during weekdays, so it was not too busy at the beach. Be prepared for some occasional Karaoke sound from nearby resorts, this seems to be a given activity for locals during beach trips... And you may feel like a celebrity at the beach, locals really like to take pictures with the tourists!
The Bara Beach Bungalows are located almost at the end of the beach, in a nice sloping garden. The restaurant and reception is near the beach terrace and serves excellent food! We had many nice meals here and were not disappointed. We especially liked the water refill station (hot and cold water for free), this helps to reduce the plastic waste!
Breakfast is sometimes served as a buffet if there are many guests, but on most days we got to select from the breakfast menu options (special requests were never a problem).
Staff is very friendly and speaks good English, on most days you will also be able to meet the manager who appears to be a native speaker in both Indonesian and English and who gave us lots of nice advice for trips around the area.
We definitely recommend to do a snorkeling trip by boat to the small island opposite the beach, there is a really beautiful coral reef garden with lots of different fish to be explored!
You can walk along the beach during low tide to get to the other resorts, especially the partner location Akasha Beach Club is worth a visit for sunset! But keep the tide times in mind to safely get back and bring a torch or headlight (there is a road as well, just in case).
Would stay here again any time if we are in the area!

Jenna, Stefan and all their staff made us so very welcome here at Bara beach. We arrived quite late after an exhausting journey from Toraja but then enjoyed a really delicious dinner and a wonderful quiet night’s sleep. Breakfast was equally delicious - you must try the French toast! The beach here is long and sandy and it is easy to walk along to explore other places to eat too - just check the tides! Recommend Room 1. So peaceful and relaxed.

Our flights got canceled 1 day before the booking and i informed straight away the hotel manager named Jenna via agoda mail and proof of cancelation. Also i called the property and talked with the receptionist Mina, she couldn't do much and refered to agoda. Calling agoda for 40 min they tried the best to support me by contacting this property, but this ignorant manager claimed even that she didn't received a proof. Obviosuly the booking was not refunded and also not re-scheduled. On a long weekend where this was the last room and demand was high. Really bad service and non-cooperative. Just business oriented. Sad.

Six bungalows on a quiet beach out of town. The bungalows are big with airconditioning, hot water, and are reasonably comfortable with decks and chairs outside.
The sea is perfectly clear, warm and blue, and the sand is blindingly white.
However, you need a car to get to Bira town. Being so remote has its benefits - you have the lovely beach pretty much to yourself. It also has its drawbacks: you have to eat at Bara's expensive and limited cafe.
Also, for the price this place is basic - Rp700,000 per night but no daily room servicing, no clean towels, and beds made up strangely (ours had two fitted bottom sheets and no flat top sheet - when we showed them this they seemed to think that that was the way you made up beds!). No complimentary water and their cafe is the only place you can buy it from (at an inflated price).
Not good value, but a beautiful location.

This is my 2nd time to Bira. Actually I choose Bara because I want to try different resort and end up dissappointed. Well, we must say that the breathtaking view in front of Bara and how the owner still responsible for the environment by taking all the stranded garbage from the beach in front of Bara are the only two positive things about this resort. I came to bara with my two girlfriends, and since we got here there were no staff that greeted us, they just look at us and continue to chit chat with two foreign tourist-We can say the staff here are typically the -not nice to local tourists but very very nice to foreign tourists-kind of staff.
1. The television didn't work.
2.When we asked about how to get to pulau kambing, one of the staff say that we can just straightly go the to main port but we need to be quick because some other guest want to use our room after we check out - and it's still like 8 oclock in the morning *oh pleasee*
3.we know that we need to check out at 12 o'clock so when we are ready to check out at 12:30 they knocked our door, said that they only give 30 minutes tolerance and we need to go imidiately. And from far away we can hear a woman, we presume it's the senior staff (or whatever) yell loud and clear "What TIME it Is?" ~thats really2 makes us feel uncomfortable.
4.And finally - fyi we have paid for the downpayment 50% before we came to bira and it has settled, but after we check out one of the staff chase us and ask where is the proof of the downpayment??? Dear God, it's like no coordination between the boss and the staff-- or maybe it's just because we are local tourist we don't know. One thing for sure, only one staff that we can say friendly and give us good service, so we really suggest you need to improve your service and your staff attitude.

My friend and I had been looking for peaceful holiday. And Bara Beach Bungalows fulfill our desire completely. We were too excited, we woke up at 4am to just wait the sunrise. The beach is awfully beautiful and calm. Stefan and his team are very helpful on arranging our transportation. And the room is very spacious, so is the bathroom. Well done, Bara Beach Bungalows! :D
And we could not complain how beautiful the stars are at night, very good atmosphere to hang out with close friend(s) in front of Bara Beach Bungalows.
Cheers,
Shinta

Great staff, very helpfull, clean rooms, great food for a good price. The best place to relax, snorkel and dive. Rent a boot for one day with skipper: 350000rp. About 25 euros. Diving with padi 400000rp (28 euro). Without 750000 Rp (52euro).
I will sure come back here. In the end of this year the owner will renovate the bungalows and premises. Bungalow Nr 1 is the best view over the ocean and the Islands. Beach is soft white sands. A farytail is the way to describe Bara Beach Bungalows and this area. Stefan, the owner, is The most helpfull and accomodating host we have met in Sulawesi. Thanks lovely people of Bara Beach for six great days!
If you have read this, stop hesitating. Book it!

If you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil spot at a very beautiful beach, than this is a wonderful place. We stayed at different beaches in Bali, but this was far the best. No night-life here but a romantic spot for swimming, snorkeling and enjoying the good food, laid back atmosphere and location. The bungalows were fine and we had a wonderful time here. The hotel lies a bit isolated but in Bira town itself is not much to do: so just relax at this place and for snorkeling trips, you just walk through the water to the boat that they can arrange at the resort for a very reasonable price.

Beautiful beach although it rained a lot, the view worth the bumpy long road to get there.
But the attitude of the staff sucked. Especially the man in army t'shirt. We booked 2 bungalows because he said only two left when we booked by phone. Arriving there, no smiles, no helps and no welcoming words. It's okay for extra bed charges because we expected it. We need 5 hours to get there so we prepared food for the children and need to warm it. But no understanding or help from the staff. One of us even heard from the manager (who doesn't look like it) said better have foreigners for guests than the locals. The army t'shirt mouthy man even said that we should rented villas because Bara Beach Bungalows is a resort hotel. I would not recommend this hotel for any locals though their attitude is different to the Western visitors. We expected a relax and enjoyable weekend but we got horrible attitude just 10 minutes after arriving in this place
