I had a lovely stay at the resort, yes it is basic but what else can you expect for such affordable pricing and remote location. The generous beach area was a real bonus as its literally few steps away from your doorstep. The snorkeling was great once you get past the 2nd jetty and the diving was also incredible with... More

We were in Hoga for 4 nights and 3 of those days we dove 3 times per day with Asrul. The atmosphere in the resort is really cozy and the cook was excellent. We were glad that we brought our own mosquito net and set it up on the verandah because there are lots of mosquitoes on the island. The... More

We spent one week at this beautiful place and really loved it. If you are looking for a remote place far away from tourists with unspoiled reef to dive or snorkle this is the place to go. It is a bit time consuming to get there as you have to take the plane from Makassar to Wangi Wangi and then... More

If going to an island with very basic accommodation and environment friendly, this is a place to go. The "resort" is duplex cottage and one traditional bathroom shared by four. Fresh water is an issue in the island. Electricity is out at 11:00 PM. Having the cottages in the middle of forest, be prepared for mosquitos. If you just want... More

Arriving at Hoga Island Dive Resort was akin to arriving on Gilligan's Island. A little nook, nestled along the coast amidst jungly trees it certainly does have the feel of a castaway haven. This place is quaint. The accommodation is simple, with traditional mandi for a bathroom, a hammock and lounge chairs on each verandah and most importantly a comfy... More

Have just spent a week with Wia. Sure, it is a journey to get there but actually quite easy. A taxi, organised by Wia from Matahora airport on Wangi Wangi to Wanci. Then a ferry, that is quite relaxing, and finally, Wia sends a little boat for a 15 minute ride to Hoga Island. Expect peace and quiet, great food,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hoga Island, part of the Wakatobi National Park, is located in the heart of the Coral Triangle, one of the most bio-diverse regions of the Indo-Pacific region and, indeed, the world. This makes for a unique diving experience, where you will see incredibly colourful corals teeming with marine life from large trevallies and schools of barracuda to small but stunning nudibranchs and cleaner shrimp. Dive packages are available including 2 dives per day, with equipment, accommodation and all meals; with discounted prices in the low season (December till May). The resort consists of eight traditional cottages, built on stilts facing the beach and the sea, each with their own veranda and hammock for relaxing. On the beach there are also hammock areas where guests can read a book, meet for a cold beer and watch spectacular sunsets. In the morning you will wake to the sounds of the local birds. The traditional Indonesian meals, often served on the beach, are made with fresh ingredients including the catch of the day brought in by the local fishermen. Wia's spaghetti vongole is delicious, as well as her famous chips! The island has only one very small village just up the beach from so you really feel far away from crowds. Non-diving actives include walking around the island, a visit to the local sea nomad village or hopping onto the dive boat to go snorkelling. We also have a small library of books in various languages as well as marine life reference books. The resort's involvement with the local community includes providing local children with a boat to take them to and from school each day through funds raised by the charity Piara set up by our technical advisor. On Sundays, the children often clean the beaches to earn money to pay for school uniforms and shoes. Resort guests sometimes help with English lessons in local schools. If you want to help the local community yourself, small donations of books and school supplies are cheap, easy to carry and always welcome! A unique new possibility is to stay for some or all of your visit in the nearby village of Sampela, a sea nomad community with houses built on stilts in the sea. The houses are connected with small wooden bridges. You can stay in a traditional house with a local family and fully immerse yourself in the fascinating way of life of the Bajao people. It’s possible to explore the traditional fishing, farming and boat-building, and accompany the Bajao people for free diving and spear fishing. Contact the resort for details. ... more   less
