We really enjoyed staying at this resort and would definitely recommend. We stayed in a jacuzzi villa, 2 adults and 1 child. The villa was large, clean and had everything we needed. Great to have a little sitting area out the front by the pond, with lots of frogs, lizards and birds around. Great location- right in the middle of the beach, next to walking street with lots of shops and restaurants close by. Really handy to have a shop so close to get beers and snacks for our room and around the pool. The pools were great, plenty of sunbeds, shade when needed, clean and surrounded by beautiful plants. The only real negative is the restaurant- they really need to utilise this. It’s such a great location with wonderful views but it was always empty, we had breakfast there one morning which was not good. Plenty of other nearby options to eat at though. Pros Location Nice rooms Great pools Cons Restaurant Hard beds…
This was probably my fifth stay at Railay Village, and this is still beautiful, with stunning gardens and a prime position on the beach. The walking street is next to it, seems to have grown massively with more shops bars, and restaurants than ever. However, I don’t think that this has spoilt it, as it has just made the area more interesting. The hotel restaurant still has lovely food, although slightly small portions. Perhaps the rooms could do with a little bit of sprucing up/renewal, and the reception/dining area needs tidying up (big heap of sand bang in the middle of it). However, I would certainly look to stay here again on any trip to Railay in future.
I seriously can’t understand the negative reviews of this place. You won’t find a better located resort than this. In the heart of Railay, on west beach with breathtaking views of those magnificent limestone cliffs. Our room - it was on the ground floor over looking the 2nd pool. It was larger than expected and didn’t give the impression of being tired and dated like other reviews have mentioned. The air con worked well and the shower, although not always the hottest (depending on time of day) had good pressure and worked with no issues. I can’t comment on the TV as it wasn’t switched on, who travels to paradise and watches tv anyway? The Bed was perfectly acceptable, yes it’s firm but in case you were unaware - they’re all firm in Thailand. Definitely not the hardest I’ve slept on and the choice of pillows were firm & soft. The pools - fantastic and well maintained (again, I’d seen comments about how the pool was green?) it’s perfectly crystal clear and checked daily from what we’ve seen. Really quiet around the pool (even in high season) with plenty of loungers available throughout the day. Breakfast - cooked eggs to order, plenty of other cooked meats, noodles, pancakes, cereals etc, your standard breakfast affair. it’s pretty basic but was perfectly good enough for us. If it’s not up to your standard just walk a few metres to the main walking street where you’ll be spoilt for choice for breakfast options at a good price. The staff - some of the friendliest people we’ve ever met. Always take time to say hello and have a chat, they work hard and are constantly cleaning the place especially the gardens. The wifi - no complaints, full signal. I could FaceTime a family member from our room, walk down to the beach and back down the walking street and I’d still be connected to the resorts wifi. Overall this place ticked all the boxes for us, ignore the petty reviews about the condition of the resort - those people have either not travelled much or their expectations are simply too high. Considering Railay isn’t accessible by car making it difficult to access like an island, they’re doing a pretty good job here. Railay west beach is pretty busy during the day (with all the longtail boats arriving with the day trippers) by the time it’s sunset though, the place has quietened down and you can enjoy the breathtaking views. If you want to experience a quiet beach during the day with exactly the same views I can highly recommend you take the short trip over to the neighbouring Tonsai Beach. We saw a lot more monkeys over this side too and it’s definitely worth getting off the boat and taking the ‘n’ shaped route around the walking street to see the wildlife and all the amazing art murals on the wall. If you’re feeling adventurous you can also walk over to Tonsai beach if you are a confident walker.…
As per other reviews the hotel is very tired, however that does seem the norm for this type of hotel in Thailand. The room is clean and spacious, bed a little on the hard side but perfectly fine. Shower had no water pressure, staff came to look and never fixed it. Chased with reception who told me it was fixed, which it wasn’t. Rang again to be told they would send someone but they never did. Managed to shower but was a challenge. Overall very average but worth what we paid. Condition of the hotel is out of the staffs hands, they are all friendly and want to help but are at the mercy of an old and tired resort. Would stay again due to amazing location on the beach.
This place was wonderful at one time. Today it’s worn down and in need of repair. The pool fountains no longer work and the pool is cloudy. The wood in the rooms is all faded, the palapa roofs on the huts needs replacing. They used to give a fruit plate in every room upon checkin. Also a cute towel sculpture with roses on the bed, all of this is gone. The massage room has been transformed into more rooms. Unfortunately the charm is gone and I won’t be returning.
Having read most of the previous comments, I can understand where the problem lies. Firstly, we opted to pay the 1600 Baht for the hotel transfer as I was concerned with my wife climbing in and out of the longtail boats, whilst up to her waist in water. The staff were great; picked up at the airport, driven to the pier, transferred onto a golf cart and then a longtail boat to Railay. Not one foot got wet. We were then met at the East Railay Pier with a porter and trolley. For those who have difficulty in walking, there are a few steps but the staff are on hand to help. Throughout this trip, I cannot fault a single member of staff. They were professional, courteous and tried to accommodate all of our wishes. There were no issues with the noise coming from the walking street which was nearby. Later in the evening, we could hear Bob Marley songs and as I’m probably the only person on the peninsular who has seen him live, I enjoyed listening to the classic Marley songs. I couldn’t hear the music inside the villa. In the UK there is a TV programme called “4 in a Bed”. It is where 4 owners of hotels, assess each other. They lift up mattresses, check the underside of plugs and do their best to belittle other contestants. If I were to do that, we would be here all day so I will stick to what I feel is important. In writing this, I am aware that I have just come from a 5 star hotel in Bangkok that was far better than my expectations. Railay is different; everything is transported from the sea. The location is second to none but it is slightly spoilt by the hundreds of tourists. It is not the people but the longtail boats that bring them. These boats should use the floating pier on the East side, leaving the views of the West beach clear. We opted for a jacuzzi villa. It sounded great. Our villa was between the 2 pools and the walk from the reception area took 3 or 4 minutes. There were many different varieties of plants and trees on both side of the path and in the evening small, covered lights showed the entrance way to the villas. Here lies the first issue. When you walk out of the villa, you take your key from a slot by the front door. After a few seconds all power to that villa closes down. You cannot see the 5 steppingstones that lead to the entrance. You cannot see the step leading to the front door or the keyhole in the door. Thankfully, we had mobile telephones. Inside the villa is what you expect. Bed, Shower, Jacuzzi etc. The whole villa needs updating. It is old fashioned. Even the picture comes from a 1930’s flee market. The plug sockets do not take UK plugs but fortunately I bought some adaptors from Amazon. There are only 4 very small drawers enough to hold underwear but nothing else. Be prepared to live from your suitcase but don’t rest the case on the sofa. The bed. Wow! There is hard and there is Railay Village Resort. I’m 100Kg. Standing on the bed, it drops down under an inch (2.5cm). While writing this, my wife is sleeping on the sofa (that’s why you leave it clear) which is slightly better, but not much. We were informed that the TV’s do not work and are currently being upgraded but who cares? You don’t come to Railay to watch TV. We never used the jacuzzi as the filling up was very slow and the sit down shower was great. Would I come again; probably not. Not just the hotel but Railay Beach itself which will be a different reflection. On checking out Wikipedia, Railay Village Resort is probably a 4 star hotel but with 3 star quality. Come on Railay Village Resort, sort the beds out. You have been told enough times. PS. I took loads of photographs but I’ll let you experience your first impression, yourself.…
I'm going to give as honest review of this resort as I can. Firstly, when we went here, it rained for the whole holiday, which wasn't very pleasant, but that's not the resort's fault. However, there could have been some services that worked to make our stay more comfortable. My view is that when this resort first opened and everything was new, it would've been a really good place to come. The room was still spacious, clean and had good decor. However, you could tell that it was tired and needed bringing up to date. As well as this, our mattress was so hard, it started to make my back ache. This was not good. Also, there was a large TV in the room but when switched on, couldn't connect to any channels, not even local ones! So this was a real problem when you're stuck inside because of the rain. Also, the main restaurant and coffee bar was being rebuilt, and we had to travel to another resort for breakfast! The biggest plus point of the resort were the two swimming pools, which were good fun, and we were wet anyway! Lastly, we decided to head back to Bangkok 2-days early because of the weather. Having being advised by reception to email the resort to see if we could get a credit for the last 2-days (2-nights free, not a refund), I received NO reply from them, which is really poor customer service. In conclusion, this may have been a top class resort in its day, but it's pretty tired now. Would I come back in better weather to re-evaluate my review? Well, if I get my 2-days credit, i'll let you know ;-)…
We booked railay village over a month ago , when we arrived we were shown our room ( Honeymoon suite) first before we checked in, this seemed strange but later we found out it was to see if we were happy first before we check on. The room was average / old and smelt damp /and a complete rip off at over $200 Australian dollars. As we had nowhere to stay and it was late in evening we had no choice to take it, but could not wait to leave next day. NOTE : the resort has no restaurant currently as the old one is getting renovated ( so they give you vouchers to use a neighbouring hotels facilities . The pool is cloudy and would not like to swim in it , when I complained about the room they were not very accomodating, especially when we are on honeymoon . Luckily the hotel next door had availability ( Sand Sea Resort ) and the staff / accomodation / pool / kitchen / wifi were fare superior. I would steer clear of the Railay Village !…
This resort is in the perfect place at Railay Beach. Great beach, incredible views and near the main restaurant street. Sunsets are incredible. Pools are small, but also right on the beach. I would recommend for couples and families.
Beautiful resort. We stayed 4 nights in one of the rooms by the pool. The room was really nice, spacious and clean. Despite the negative reviews for breakfast we really enjoyed it. There was plenty of choice and staff were very attentive. Great location with plenty of places to eat and drink in the evenings.
