Drove into Pine Mountain after a long, tiring day at the wheel and struck it lucky. I got the last room at The Old Bear B&B. David and Maxine welcomed me (as did their lovely dogs!) and showed me into the most wonderful recreation of a 1890's hotel room. At least as an Anglo/Aussie travelling around California, that's how I chose to see it: Iron bed with fabulous mattress, lots of antique furniture, washstand, (No TV, thank goodness!) a variety of books, and just across the hall a clean bathroom with good hot shower. The setting of the Old B B&B is idyllic: in amongst the pine trees with squirrels, quails, woodpeckers, Stellar Jays, finches and the sound of silence. Breakfast was embarrassing, as I wanted to eat more, but felt that I shouldn't, being a polite person (my mistake!) Pancakes, bacon maple syrup, fruit, yoghurt and pints of coffee. Is there a better way to start a days' hiking? I doubt it. And I liked it so much I stayed a second night. Also, there are a line of guitars on the living room wall, so I was able to sit in the garden playing to myself for a whole afternoon. For me, it was magic. If I'm ever that way again, I'll be staying there.

The Old Bear is THE place to stay in Pine Mountain Club. The owners (Davide + Maxine) are superb and prepare some delightful breakfasts, their oatmeal casserole being my newest favorite food. This is a lovely rustic mountain cabin, complete with wood-burning stove-fireplace, tongue + groove ceilings and planks wooden floors. They have warm toasty heaters in each bedroom with some great flannel sheets. They are walking distance to local amenities such as restaurants + convenience stores and the golf course, if that is your thing. Such a quick-get away from LA and I can be up in the Mt. Pinos/Frazier Park area and stay at this welcoming home. The hosts also have vast knowledge of the area. I hope to make it up there more often.

Mini refers to the amount of time we got to spend here, David and Maxine are very gracious hosts and do there best to make sure you have a wonderful time. We stayed in the Bluebird room, which was lovely. Their rooms are themed and decorated appropriately .Much of the house has a vintage feel, think antiques, which I absolutely love. Being just after Christmas decorations were still up and it was just beautiful. Everyone staying was warm and friendly and made the stay feel like family. David makes a great breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, freshly made cinnamon rolls and a variety of fruit. The place was very clean.Maxine is an artist and you can see her paintings around the house. Really hoping we are able to go back and further enjoy that area, For those who like golf, there is a course across the street. We absolutely loved our stay here and you will too.

David and Maxine are the best. They even had a vegetarian breakfast for us. The B&B is warm and homey. The location is great. We sat on the porch and watched the birds come to their feeders. The location is very close to the village which is delightful.
