After arriving at 19.45 direct from the Bogota-Periera flight we were shown our room but had absolutely no welcome. There didn’t seem to be any reception staff around but we did get a sandwich. The room was disappointing, on the ground floor (No 3). It was dark and damp with on hanging space, no security safe and no plug for the washbasin (one of these was provided later). Initial impressions were not good but we warmed to the place during our 3 night visit. The location is stunning at the entrance to the Cocora Valley, with beautiful gardens and walks within the grounds. The staff were polite and helpful and the Alsatian, Niera, great fun to play with. Breakfasts were delicious with a good choice. Dinner had a limited choice but was well cooked. The proximity to Salento meant there was a good good choice of restaurants within a 10 minute taxi ride.

Beautiful old traditional Finca short (cheap) taxi ride from salento (or hop on a jeep). Loved the location in the country and walks you could do straight from the house. Even though it rained on and off throughout our 4 nights here we still loved it. Breakfast plentiful- especially liked the home made yogurt (from resident cows) and freshly laid eggs. Our room on the upper floor with balcony was nice... (only “suggestion “ to the owners is put in some more traditional furniture rather than the glass coffee table and office table. Would improve the look a lot. And put a draught excluder below the door to the balcony...) It is cold at night - take warm clothes! Staff sweet & helpful. Good restaurant suggestions especially in Filandia. Prepared “hikers lunch” for our day in Cocora (go anti-clockwise!) which was tasty. Supper fine but basic. We only ate once and had sandwich the other time as we didn’t book in time. In brief.. great location, lovely place, reasonable price. Recommended!

Location - A few mins taxi ride from Salento set on the road between Salento & the Cocora Valley. Great location for Cocora valley walks. Walks on own property good - waterfall 10 mins and an hour hill/wood walk which took us longer with the heat & altitude. Property - A small colonial home over 100 years old that has been converted. It was very attractive and overlooked beautiful mountains in a very peaceful location. Pleasant public rooms and we especially appreciated the library with a great book collection on wildlife and a log fire. Room - Attractive balcony where we saw Andean Mot Mots & woodpeckers daily. Comfortable bed. Simple furnishings. Random hot water. Food - A tiny simple restaurant on site was open on limited hours. Good quality however not opening until 2pm for lunch was not helpful as we had half day trips and came back hungry! There is an opportunity to offer more services generally between breakfast and dinner. We were glad of our travel kettle! Service - Good welcome from Alesha and all team were friendly. Our lack of Spanish wasn’t ideal however with some ‘Spanglish’ between us all we managed. Overall - Pleasant and characterful and would recommend for a simple peaceful stay.

I am a bit torn regarding our stay here. Some things were really nice (like the location and the hummingbirds in the garden), however at the same time some things did not feel quite right for us. Our room felt like it was in a basement. The room was too cold and damp at night, also the hot water did not work all the time. Before we arrived we booked the pick up service at the airport and did the coffee tour right after on the way to the hotel, which was both nice and recommended. During our ride we arranged to do the night safari the same night (we were offered to do it the next night, but since this would have been on the 24th of December we did not want to keep someone from the christmas celebrations). When we arrived at the hotel in the afternoon at about 3 or 4 pm we were told that it was too late to order dinner. I realize that they cook everything fresh and do not want to waste any food but an email beforehand or an information in the car would have been convenient. We were then told that we could have a sandwich after the night safari, which did not happen, since the kitchen was closed when we came back. This was after a long day of travel and a night safari of about 3 hours. A bit more service and consideration would have been nice here. Also, for our whole stay there we didn´t really figure out if it was ok to ask the staff to call us a taxi, we always felt like it was a burden for them, but that might be a misinterpretation of body language from our part. The location is great for hikes, we loved the dogs and we had beautiful birds in front of our window.

The accommodation is gorgeous in that it’s surrounded by greenery and very peaceful. Their is a games room with a log fire and a dining room where you have your meals. The rooms are spacious and everything was great from that standpoint. The location is a little farther out from salento town than we had imagined but taxis are cheap and you can book them via reception. It’s also a taxi ride away from the Corcora Valley which did not cost much either. We loved our stay and enjoyed the food and hospitality. The only improvement I would say is that the Dining Room could maybe have a log fire in there too, as it gets quite cold at night and we had to eat our dinner with our coats on, so would have been nice to be slightly warmer :) but overall, a lovely stay. Thank you!

Perfectly situated finca for visiting Salento and especially Cocora Valley. The grounds are stunning (plenty of hiking to do without leaving the site) and it is a really picturesque place to stay and very quiet (except for maybe the morning cockerels!). Small details but we couldn’t get hot water easily in the shower. Rooms are simple but good size and comfortable.

We spent 5 days at Reserva El Cairo and I we can't wait to go back. This red and green ranch house is just beautiful and comfortable, with excellent view of the mountains. The landscape is just gorgeous, rooms very comfortable with remodeled bathrooms. Our room had a little balcony with a great site to trees and plants all blooming and hummingbirds all around the area. The staff was extremely helpful; Mauricio, Alejandro and Margarita did a wonderful job and they were always very polite and friendly. Breakfast was always fresh in their cute little dining area next to the sparkling kitchen. Great coffee and fresh juices made of fruit of their own trees. Bread and arepas are home made as well as cheese, butter and jam. Everything is fresh!!! The hotel is very close to Salento (10 minutes drive) and we were able to ask Mauricio to call a van or a Jeep to pick up us every time we needed to go to either to Salento,The Cocora Valley or Filandia; as well as to go from/ to the airport in Pereira. The staff arranged all those trips for us and that made our trip so much easier. Did I mention dinner was always wonderful? Delicious grilled trucha (trout), coconut rice and other wonderful Colombian dishes and a good selection of South American wines. It was raining during the time we went to Salento (Mid November) but the staff made it so much easier for us by letting us borrow hats, boots and umbrellas. Even Naira, their German Shepard was a great guide and took us to the falls, that was a great little hike too and the water was sooo clear and relaxing. We really recommend this place and look forward to go back one day.

Reserva El Cairo is an unspoiled gem in a very beautiful setting in the road from Salento to Cocora. The rooms are large and confortable, the reading room a delight and the restaurant offers outstanding food. El Cairo is definitely a place you must visit as charm flows from every corner. Staff could not be more friendlier.

We spent 4 nights in this beautifully and lovingly restored finca in the beautiful Cocora Valley. The rooms are spotless, spacious and gorgeous. We had the run of the place and could cuddle up in the family room around the fire in the evenings, enjoy meals in the stately dining room, sit on the front porch with the dogs watching the birds, and hike for spectacular valley views high up on the property. The staff are extraordinary, helpful, professional, warm and friendly. Thanks to Alejandro and Margarita especially. A bird tour was arranged for us on the property, they cooked fabulous meals and lent us boots to hike further down the valley in the park. We were close to the town of Salento and lots of coffee plantations. Birds were everywhere! It was the highlight of our month long trip in Colombia in many ways. We had our own transportation and were very close to the entrance to the Cocora Valley Park (about 20 min) but it is easy to get there by local transportation. If hiking the valley I would recommend going counterclockwise to the top of the mountain as there is a lot of climbing over rocks and around a stream which we found better to do going up than coming down. Going counterclockwise, coming down is then on a road through beautiful farmland.
