Pearl Beach Resort and Spa (formally Michamvi Beach Resort) is a sprawling boutique resort with 37 bungalows divided into garden, ocean and beach views. The road leading up to the hotel is not well paved which is common in Zanzibar due to the red tape in paving it. There is a spa which isn't very luxurious, an open air gym, and 2 pools- a smaller one located in the lobby and the main one. The resort is also connected to 2 beaches- one small one next to the pool and another bigger one which is a 3 minute walk from the reception area. Baboa Beach, the bigger one has many lounge chairs and a bar. Like many beaches in Zanzibar, you can only swim in them during high tide which is late afternoon to early evening. The open air lobby is good size and has a pool connected ( great for pictures but not swimming). Check in was very personable as they did it whilst you were sitting in the lobby sipping on your welcome drink. There is a tour representative to book any tours that you need. The lobby is the only area where there is free Wi-Fi ( not available in your bungalow) My ocean view balcony bungalow was spacious but simple. They still use a key for the room and the safe deposit box . There is no TV in the room. The bathroom is big with a shower (you need to switch on the hot water first). The bed was extremely comfortable. There wasn't a master power switch nor any outlets to charge your devices near the bed. A 1,5 L bottle of water is provided/day which can be kept in the refrigerator. The sprawling grounds are kept up well and are full of flowers and trees. Since there are only 37 bungalows- it is never crowded. The yoga center which overlooks the water is such a tranquil place for meditation. The pool also has a great view of the ocean and serves coconut juice. During the day there are many activities like water aerobics. The daily activity schedule is posted on the lobby bulletin board along with the nightly themed dinners ( White Dinner, Cultural Show on the beach) There is one restaurant which is in the lobby. Most of the guests are on full board and the meals are buffet ( $20 for dinner if you aren't on full board) but there is a limited a la carte menu. Besides this, your options are limited. I had the dinner buffet and the quality was at best mediocre. The best was the made to order pasta. The limited overpriced a la carte menu wasn't very good either. The breakfast buffet was the same- mediocre quality. There were made to order eggs but I waited over 30 minutes for mine. The other options is to take a taxi (USD 10-one way) to The Rock , Kae Beach or their sister hotel Kae Beach Resort. Kae Beach Resort has delicious food at a reasonable price. It was one of the best meals I had and I would definitely recommend it. Their is also a restaurant on Kae Beach- around a 10 minute beach walk from the hotel. This place is hopping at sunset with an acrobatic show and live music with dancing after sunset, Zanzibar pizza is available here after sunset. All in all, I enjoyed myself. The food was the most disappointing part. If they improve the quality and selection of the food and have internet available in the bungalows, then it would be a perfect place to relax in a beautiful setting.

I'm at Pearlbeach resort in Zanzibar and it is a wonderful place. The customer service, management, kitchen staff and housekeeping has been awesome. It's a great African 5 star experience and advise anyone to come here. It truly is an awesome place and I truly felt at home away from home. Definitely going to bring my family to this awesome place.

Travelling with my sister, we couldn’t decide whether or not to stay here because of the remote location and couldn’t find any reviews with the details we were looking for so here is everything you need to know if you’re unsure. LOCATION :was a 2 hour drive from kendwa. The resort is located down a long dirt road with huge holes in the road so it took our taxi a long time to get down there as it was flooded from the rain the night before. really beautiful location and stunning views from the restaurant. Nice pools and pool area. Spa didn’t seem to be in action. BEACH at the front - just rocks at low tide. No Sandy area. You could swim there at high tide but the jagged rocks poking up from the water even with swimming shoes would be dodgy. So for this beach it’s really just the view and the fact you can access the boats to take you out snorkelling from it. Beach on the other side of the resort is very beautiful. Again when the tide is out you can’t swim and in the 4 days we were there we couldn’t see when the tide was ever in ( early morning and sunset as far as I could figure out) so we never got a chance to swim there. If your looking for an amazing beach this is not the place for you although it is still beautiful to Look at during certain times of the day it’s not the most user friendly. FOOD: food tasted great. We opted for half board which was breakfast and dinner. Plenty of choice, tasty - no complaints there. Only issue was with lunch. With other guests we have spoken to also - it’s very unclear. They tell you on arrival there is no a la carte menu it’s just a buffet which is $25 per person. Super expensive for what you’re getting. On questioning thoroughly they finally told us we could order certain things from the a la carte. We could also pick some things from the buffet eg. Pasta would be $8 soups $5 etc.. so make sure to ask about this as otherwise it would have been $50 for lunch for two people and that didn’t include drinks. I got food poisoning whilst there but cannot attribute this to the restaurant as it could have been from the hotel I stayed at before hand. Rooms: were super nice had everything you could need, very comfortable beds. Felt like anything you could request from the staff they would help you with. ONLY BAD THING about this place: tour operator/organiser Obama. The rudest guy I have ever met. Firstly he accosted us twice once at breakfast and second time on our way to dinner. We politely told him we didn’t actually want to partake in any tours. He didn’t accept this and we had to sit through twenty minutes of him talking about tours as he acted as if we were rude for not buying an excursion from him. Whilst On the beach one day spontaneously we decided we would like to go snorkelling so we bought a snorkelling, starfish, sand bank tour from one of the beach boys as we wanted to support the locals who have been struggling for money since the beginning of the pandemic when tourism has gone down. His name was Jumar he was super polite and professional the whole time and we did not feel haggled/pressured as we did with everybody else. When we arrived back at the hotel, the staff enquired whether we had take an excursion from the ‘beach boys’ which is first of all none of their business. When we said that we did they acted all disappointed and went to tell Obama. Who pointedly approached us to ask us If we had declined his tour and then bought one elsewhere. As the only two female travellers there we felt pretty Uncomfortable and threatened by this - there was absolutely no need for it. And the worst thing was when we went to leave and Obama organised us our taxi to stone town for $70. Way above the going rate - when we got into the taxi he asked us to pay upfront before he got there. Not sure if this is procedure so I very politely asked ‘oh we have to pay before we get there’. To this he started laughing and put on a high pitched female voice and started imitating what I had said and saying ‘why why why’ in a whiny voice. Both he and the taxi driver started laughing at us. It was no problem to give the money first I just hadn’t heard of this before and wanted to see why. Felt completely threatened and patronised by this guy. He clearly has a problem with women. Wouldn’t near him again. Feel like he wouldn’t have done/siad the things he did if we had a male In our group. He brought down the tone of the hotel for us. I’m sure other travellers with couples or lakes did not experience this with him. Otherwise pleasant stay.

After a bumby road approach, we have been rewarded with a beautiful hotel complex, a super friendly reception and a heavenly beach view. The whole Hotel Team is working hard, and still is always friendly and has a big smile for the guests (thank you Tiva, Elinde, Abdhuli, Jaqueline, Emilia, and all others.. you are the best). Everything appears very family and one feel very comfy and in good hands (Massai Guards). Our Room, a Deluxe Sea View, was wonderful and well deserved 5 African Stars. It was daily cleaned and beddings done evenings, nicely decorated with flowers. Food buffet offered good choice of Salads, meat, fish and veggies and tasty fresh fruits, something for every taste. Seek Ali Baba for a trip and Mesh Mesh when needing a Boat. All in all we enjoyed 2 weeks of total relaxation (try Muana at the Spa). Big thanks to Pearl Beach who gave presents of an unforgettable dream vacation.

A special thank you to the team for making our stay as comfortable and homely as possible. We stayed at the resort for 2 weeks with my husband and 3 & 7 year old sons. The reception area took us aback but as soon as we walked in - we were quite impressed 😃 the staff are always smiling and friendly. The managers Shirley, Brad and Muhoud were always accessible & visible. The generous food portions I miss the most especially the everyday 3 course dinner meals. So much effort goes into the guests experience by ensuring variety and ambiance are met. I love how they employ several people to do different jobs as this means many families are being supported. There’s just too many exceptional things I could mention that made our stay memorable. You will not regret staying here😁

We stayed at the resort for 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. We rented a villa with a private pool and an ocean view suite. ~ Excellent location and ambience ~ Friendly and welcoming staff and Maasai security (which is the main reason we enjoyed the stay) ~ Great service ~ Privacy! (another reason we enjoyed the stay) ~ Economical compared to other island destinations ~ Delicious food😇 Mr Joseph assisted us through the whole process; right from booking our rooms till the departure from Zanzibar. The receptionist, Ms Rehema, helped us deal with almost everything at the resort. The whole team at the restaurant was exceptional (it wouldn't be fair to mention anyone in particular as all of them were AMAZING!), and I'm glad I made friends there🤗. They do not offer Wi-Fi in the rooms and I wouldn't complain because it was a good opportunity to unwind and stay away from our phones! The locals are super friendly, and you can step out with no fear if you want to explore Zanzibar. Altogether, I would give them 5 stars for a memorable stay!
