I went there as last option on a trip and I found a real great bungalows self-made with local architecture, keeping your privacy and offers you the silence luxury as well as a pool, hammocks, international and local meals and drinks. You can walk to the ruins and Valerie, the Owner (Canadian women) can guide you on which ones fits... More

Great little restaurant near Santa Elena, just down the road from Uxmal. Our family had dinner here and everyone loved their meals. Interesting takes on local cuisine, nice atmosphere, stellar service. The arracherra steak was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Prices are reasonable and the food is fantastic.

My wife and I work as anthropologists ~ 1-2 months every year south of Santa Elena in a small Maya community and our preferred place to decompress and relax is always the Pickled Onion. We have tried all the other local options, and hands down there are no better accommodations than this B&B. The Pickled Onion is beautiful, tranquil, affordable,... More

We stayed six nights in this beautiful and exotic B&B. We slept in a lovely cabana with an en-suite bathroom. The pretty gardens are very well tended with many plants, cactuses and flowers. We enjoyed swimming and relaxing in the outdoor pool after busy days of visiting Mayan ruins. The breakfasts were very generous and served in a glorious outdoor... More

Extremely helpful and friendly, the owner is English. Will organise a private motorbike taxi to visit Ruta Puuc ruins (a brilliant experience, 700 pesos). Lovely reasonably priced evening meals, and a bar service to the pool.

This was a special oasis in the Yucatan Peninsula. All accommodations are private palapas. Ours had three beds for our family of four and was lovely. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious and the owner and staff are all very helpful and kind. Our kids enjoyed walking the owner's dog around. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat.... We were on the "Ruta Puuc" and as we didn't want to drive back to Merida every day, we decided to stay at The Pickled Onion. We stayed in the Bungalow right next to the pool. In fact we got two small Bungalows which were nice, comfortable and clean. The decoration shows the good taste of the owner, a nice... More

The Pickled Onion is one of the best eateries on the Puuc Route. Food is decidedly Yucatecan with specialties like poc chuc and pollo pibil but you’ll also find a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant is located in the small Mayan village of Santa Elena, situated perfectly along the Ruta Puuc, between the ruins of Uxmal and... More

We are able to sit down with the owner and our tour guide. Had excellent lunch and great conversation. A must to have Mayan cuisine. You have a chance to meet the owner. Make sure you talk to her about her humble beginnings. She's a great person and an excellent business person thanks for having us
