A graceful spot, located less than 30km/20 miles on the expressway from Aarhus the cultural city. It must be included in your journey to Denmark this year. What do you get ? The quiet countryside, lovely outdoors seating in the courtyard, access to the bar, lovely cuisine, well arranged rooms and suites. Friendly and beautiful staff.

After long drive across Denmark we had an enjoyable evening. Lovely dinner in Sophiendal Gods Restaurant and a restful night in nicely decorated room. If you need time away from crowds, highly recommend.

Hotel is located outside Arhus but it is worth to drive few kilometers. First of all it offers good quality of sleeping. Most of the rooms and public areas are very nice - incredible for Danish standards - but unfortunaltely bathroom is Scandinavian standard - poor or rather very poor. Breakfast is accepteble. The staff is nice but unprofessional -...

Sophiendal Slot is a very charm in place to stay. It is an old manor, -not a castle. There are several charming indoor sitting rooms and the surrounding nature is very beautiful. The evening restaurant is excellent, and the four course menu is worth driving for. Breakfast is average and the charming rooms are a bit worn.

Quiet, beautiful old manor house next to the oldest church in Denmark, this place has a country charm blended with museum quality common rooms. Romance and effort were put into the bedrooms. A nice little hotel worth the drive.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sophiendal Manor is located in the highland between Ejer Bavnehoj and Himmelbjerget. Vast forests, lakes and rivers, make Sophiendal's location spectacular. The deers can be heard belling in the valleys and the eagles screaming. The abbey church is situated behind the manor. The church was built in 1058 and is the oldest in the country. After the Reformation, the monastery was placed under Skanderborg castle until 1767, when the king sold Venggaard to the prefect von Woyda. He built the manor and called it Sophiendal after his wife Sophie. The manor has 34 beautifully decorated rooms, all with canopy beds. The old farm buildings have been converted into conference rooms with modern facilities. The manor provides the perfect setting for special occasions. Sophiendal Manor is the ideal venue for christenings, weddings, birthday parties, receptions, seminars, workshops and board meetings, with capacity for up to 110 guests. ... more   less
