It was a struggle to book to attend this event. No reply to phone calls or messages left. Eventually managed to book and pay a deposit, but told we would be in the conservatory, not the main room. We decided to go ahead with that. Again, I had to chase to pay the full amount and book our meals. Told constantly that the party organiser was ‘ busy with party plans and weddings’ I eventually attended the venue In person to pay. Due to covid, we tried to call to see if we should cancel. We were told no refund. Again, we were told that the party planner was busy and get back to us eventually. We attended the event and found we were the only people in the conservatory! Just the 4 of us. The party room was set up nicely. Our room had tables and chairs askew, and empty! No atmosphere at all, definitely not a party night. Food was nice. Staff serving were pleasant. Again, I emailed to feed back how disappointed we were with our Christmas outing. The automatic email I received stated they were busy with party’s and weddings! Still have not heard a word in reply. Very disappointing event and customer care. Will not attend again and would not recommend.

Having visited the hotel on numerous occasions we were very disappointed by the service we received this evening. There appeared to be a very young staff on duty who were disinterested in serving customers. Glasses were left on tables and not collected. Members of staff behind the bar were apathetic in their approach to serving customers, there appeared to be no leadership or management of staff. A totally different experience to previous visits. Hopefully management will take this on board and take charge of a young inexperienced staff who appear to be lacking in customer care!

We booked afternoon tea for my sister in law's 40th birthday - 6 adults and 4 children. When we arrived we were shown to our table and a waitress came to take a drinks order. We explained that some of us wouldn't be having the bottomless afternoon tea which she said was fine and returned with the drinks soon after. Then the food arrived on just two slate plates for all 10 of us - we were surprised as there were hardly any sandwiches and they were mostly cheese or ham. When we asked for additional sandwiches we were told we'd have to pay extra. The restaurant manager was rude and abrupt and muttered something under his breath about there being different food depending on which afternoon tea you'd booked (but there was no indication of this on the hotel website) and seemed visibly annoyed with us. The sandwiches still had half their crusts on in parts and there was little variety. The cakes seemed shop bought, not homemade. We then had to ask for prosecco (two of our party were supposed to be having the "bottomless" prosecco and the rest of us the sparkling afternoon tea) and they brought one bottle over and did pour it. After that nobody came and asked if we were ok, nobody offered any more prosecco (definitely not "bottomless"!) and we had to go up to the bar twice to ask for more tea, which they didn't bring and then we had to ask again. Nobody cleared any of the table away at any point so there wasn't enough room to pour tea etc. My sister in law questioned the bill which they did reduce very slightly - but we then witnessed the waiting staff pointing at our table and smirking at us from the bar. I did speak to the Events Manager to complain (the restaurant manager had apparently already gone home) who did apologise and give a bottle of sparkling wine by way of an apology, however by then the damage was already done. It was far from the special celebration we'd hoped for and sadly now the memory of my sister in law's birthday is tainted by the really poor customer service at the Stanwick Hotel today. We won't return any time soon.
