An autenthic Norwegian experience! Byrkjedalstunet, located at an intersection of roads 45 and 503, is a unique and lovely place to enjoy Norwegian traditions at their best. If you are dreaming of waking up to the sound of our playful goats on the grassy hillside, birds tweeting and a stream flowing, please treat yourself to an overnight stay at our charming hotel. Free parking. Our restaurant was once a local diary. The food is made in our kitchen preferably using ourn own crop. We know all the details about each Hereford beef as the cattle has been born and raised at our own farm. Our candle factory transports you into Peer Gynt's world, and has a 1100m2 sized outlet with handmade candles, elecant decorations, handcrafts, delicacies from small-scale producers and so much more. Our Christmas Attic is open all year. We are a natural starting point for the main tourist attractions in the region: The Pulpit Rock, Kjaerag, Lysefjorden, Månafossen waterfall, Gloppedalsura etc. Welcome!

Kind of unique place with a very Norwegian charm in a stunning environment. Very good breakfast. The room was cosy with exceptionally good duvets. We explored the surroundings, great hiking at Månafossen. Will come back.

We come here vey often. I have never been disappointed, and I can't seem to get enough of this place. The food is excellent, the scenery is magical and the service is great. There's always something new to see in the shop, and improvements are being made all the time. We also like to take our guests from abroad here, because we think this place is worth showing to people. Let's not forget the rustic rooms and comfortable beds, which will have you sleeping like on cloud 9!

Me and my boyfriend of 2 years went to Byrkjedalstunet to stay one night as a celebration of our anniversary. Before arriving I communicated with the hotel about receiving some champagne/fruit at the room as a romantic gesture. We arrived at the hotel and received two small bottles of Prosecco and a big platter of fruit. From start to finish, the service was amazing. We were welcomed with smiles and “hellos” from the staff. The room was old fashioned Norwegian style, with a hint of modernisation. Bed was super comfy, with a good choice of channels on the Tv. Directly outside our window, we were welcomed by two mountain goats who were frolicking around their area. At dinner, my boyfriend had a juicy burger and I had the traditional meatcakes, which were amazing! We received a taste of their own brand of “flatbrød» which also was amazing. We slept very well throughout the night, with complete silence outside. In the morning we had a nice hotel breakfast with lovely sourdough bread and an assortment of spread to put on. I highly recommend this place for both local and foreign tourists as this is the perfect getaway for couples or just to relax. We will make this a tradition every November to come here. 10 out of 5 stars!

We stayed in this facility on our way to Tau from Oslo. Buildings are unique. Staff were very friendly. Food was decent. Room was big enough. Bathroom would need a bit upgrade. The lower level bed is small for two people. Other than shower gel, bring all your toiletries. No English signs. We had to ask to find the reception desk, which was a very small counter in the front building.

Despite booking in good advance we got a room in an uncharming separate guest house located on a parking place. The room windows are all facing the parking place with no privacy and extremely poorly furnished - the price is very high - never again...

Accommodation: I received a great, spacious room, furnished with 18-1900 traditional, Norwegian furniture. Large double bed, good sized workspace/desk with two chairs. Plenty of room to hand clothes after a day out hiking and a good sized bathroom. Facilities: The hotel is attached to a massive shop selling traditional Norwegian goods such as Dale jumpers and other traditional crafts. Good size restaurant on site but this closes at 1800 so be aware. They also have facilities for conferences including a massive subterranean centre for hosting large events and parties. Service: Great service. Quick, attentive and helpful. Location: The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere. But a fantastic base camp for hiking and to visit other local attractions such as Preikestolen. Very quiet and surrounded by snowcapped mountains during the winter. Fantastic nature. But be aware, the nearest shop is a 7 minutes drive away and there are no restaurants nearer than 30 minutes away (apart from the hotel restaurant). Recommendation: Absolutely. Very relaxing, stunning surroundings and great service. What more can you ask for?

This Hotel was the best we stayed in while in Norway for 9 days. It is off the beaten path and a great location to stay when hiking the Kjreg. It doubles as a great restaurant with an awesome complimentary breakfast. They have a great gift shop with many things they make on site including a huge candle making section. They have a reception area for locals who want to have weddings or events and it is made Into the rock underground . The room we stayed in was #3 and was small and cozy but had everything ya need. It could be a problem if the adjoining room was noisy but for us they were not. Overall a great stay! They went above and beyond as my wife had a medical emergency requiring us to leave in the early evening. We turned in our key and left as we didn't know if we could return. When we were able to return they left us a key in a box at midnight for us to get back in our room.

The hotel and its grounds is the whole place. The old converted dairy has great charm with high ceilings with exposed timber rafters. The food is really good and a hearty breakfast with bread from the bakery on the grounds is as fresh as you can get. Great staff that speak English well and can answer all your questions. Great base to do your hiking from. Lot of local crafts and food items for sale as well as candles made on site in all shapes and forms.
