An autenthic Norwegian experience! Byrkjedalstunet, located at an intersection of roads 45 and 503, is a unique and lovely place to enjoy Norwegian traditions at their best. If you are dreaming of waking up to the sound of our playful goats on the grassy hillside, birds tweeting and a stream flowing, please treat yourself to an overnight stay at our charming hotel. Free parking. Our restaurant was once a local diary. The food is made in our kitchen preferably using ourn own crop. We know all the details about each Hereford beef as the cattle has been born and raised at our own farm. Our candle factory transports you into Peer Gynt's world, and has a 1100m2 sized outlet with handmade candles, elecant decorations, handcrafts, delicacies from small-scale producers and so much more. Our Christmas Attic is open all year. We are a natural starting point for the main tourist attractions in the region: The Pulpit Rock, Kjaerag, Lysefjorden, Månafossen waterfall, Gloppedalsura etc. Welcome!

Detailed Reviews
The room was spacious for our needs and very nice and clean. It had a couple of skylights with controls to open the windows and to control the shades for the skylights. We had a couple of great meals at the restaurant with an excellent host/waiter who was very nice and always had a smile on his face. It's also just a five minute drive from the (small) Geopark which is nice to see and a great spot for night photography.

We come here vey often. I have never been disappointed, and I can't seem to get enough of this place. The food is excellent, the scenery is magical and the service is great. There's always something new to see in the shop, and improvements are being made all the time. We also like to take our guests from abroad here, because we think this place is worth showing to people. Let's not forget the rustic rooms and comfortable beds, which will have you sleeping like on cloud 9!

Kind of unique place with a very Norwegian charm in a stunning environment. Very good breakfast. The room was cosy with exceptionally good duvets. We explored the surroundings, great hiking at Månafossen. Will come back.

I've not stayed in the hotel itselv, but I've eaten in their restaurant numerous times and the food has always been good. The selection is not so extensive, but there is always at least one fish dish and several meat dishes. Their bread is also excellent. Vegetarians and in particular vegans won't find much to eat here. In addition to great food, this place could almost be categorised as a museum due to all the authentic old tools and photographs they have displayed all over the place. In addition, Byrkjedalstunet has a candle "factory" wall to wall with the restaurant which is an absolute must to see. This "factory" serves as a shop and kids can also have great fun making their own candles here. At the back of the candle section, the shop opens up into a large room where the mountain serves as the back wall. You may here buy authentic Norwegian arts and crafts, as well as some semiprecious stones from other parts of the world. On the outside of the buildings you'll also find a small "farm" section, where you may visit (mostly only from the outside, but also from the inside) typical old-fashioned mountain farm buildings found in Norwegian. It includes a few goats. The venue is situated in a valley which in itself is worthwhile seeing.

+1
This place is simply amazing. From the beauty of the moss covered cottages to the waterfall cascading through the property, this place made gave me an instant feeling of happiness. It is truly magical. We came for a short stay as part of our trip to Norway. We were there two nights and I easily could of stayed longer. It is incredibly peaceful. Our room was spotless, and the bed like a giant marshmallow. I truly felt like I stepped directly in to a fairytale. The restaurant cooks up authentic Norwegian cuisine and they were currently building a bread bakery. As we walked the grounds I was mesmerized by the "little things" the goats, the scenery, the flowers...everything just felt perfect. We used one of our days to drive to Pulpit Rock, and hiked to the top. A must do if you are in the area. There is also a waterfall you can hike to a short distance away. Overall, if you want to getaway form it all, enjoy some peace and quiet, in a non touristy location. This is the place for you. I almost hate writing about it, because it's so special I don't want anyone to know. Absolutely one of my favorite places ever. Truly magical.

Byrkjedalstunet is a bit off the beaten track. (GPS position N58.77990 E6.31684). It is on route 45, which leads through valleys and over mountains. Closed in winter!
As a hotel it is unusual in that the rooms are in individual small and old houses, collected from the surrounding area. The insides, especially the bathrooms, are very modern, though. And, there really is a candle factory on the premises.
The food served here is good and wholesome, often based on local produce. Trout, mutton and venison, for instance. Don't expect too much of a gourmet experience, though.

We stopped by Byrkjedalstunet on our trip from Frafjord to Lysebotn. We had been hiking past Månefossen and into the valley and just need a good night sleep. When entering the reception, you are entering an atmosphere of good old Norwegian country style. The staff was nice and quick and we were soon guided to our cottage. It had a lot of space, also kept in a old style, a nice bathroom and a bed just waiting to be used. Even though you could want that, take your time to look around in the area and the shop, they have so many nice things.
We had a good night sleep and enjoyed the included breakfast with a lot of different things that prepared us for the rest of the day.
We can really recommend you to stay.
PS: take your time to stop by Gloppdalsura Rock Fall nearby.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights between our hikes to Puplit Rock and Kjeragbolten. The hotel and the beds were very comfortable, which was important to us coming back from and going to the hikes. The rooms and showers were big and modern, and I was very happy with that. The goats in the back were a nice touch :) a restaurant was connected to the hotel and we ate there both nights. The food was great! Everyone we met at the hotel and restaurant were super helpful and nice!! We would recommend travelers to stay here.

The Byrkjedalstunet is a popular place to stop for dinner or a coffee when heading to the hills and valleys outside of Stavanger. Here you find a piece of old Norwegian culture mixed with stunning nature and some great geological sights from the last ice age. The hotel offer the basic needs with a helpful staff and great Norwegian food. However, the restaurant close at 20:00 and there is only a few TV channels available. Hence, winter time there is not much to do at night, unless you take advantage of the good speed free internet. As such this is a great place for nature and culture (4+ stars), but limited offers if you are comparing it to a city hotel (3 stars).

Accommodation: I received a great, spacious room, furnished with 18-1900 traditional, Norwegian furniture. Large double bed, good sized workspace/desk with two chairs. Plenty of room to hand clothes after a day out hiking and a good sized bathroom.
Facilities: The hotel is attached to a massive shop selling traditional Norwegian goods such as Dale jumpers and other traditional crafts. Good size restaurant on site but this closes at 1800 so be aware. They also have facilities for conferences including a massive subterranean centre for hosting large events and parties.
Service: Great service. Quick, attentive and helpful.
Location: The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere. But a fantastic base camp for hiking and to visit other local attractions such as Preikestolen. Very quiet and surrounded by snowcapped mountains during the winter. Fantastic nature. But be aware, the nearest shop is a 7 minutes drive away and there are no restaurants nearer than 30 minutes away (apart from the hotel restaurant).
Recommendation: Absolutely. Very relaxing, stunning surroundings and great service. What more can you ask for?
