Babu's Camp is a intimate tented camp in Mkomazi National Park in northeastern Tanzania. It is the first semi-permanent tented camp to be situated in this park and the only facility that offers accommodation for tourists. Mkomazi is virtually untraveled, making Babu's Camp the ideal destination for those discerning guests who prefer the experience of peace and solitude while enjoying Africa's beauty.

We had the great pleasure of visiting Mkomazi National Park (no longer a game reserve) and staying at Babu's Camp. The park truly is a hidden gem both in terms of a beautiful location and the birds and mammals that we encountered. At Babu's Camp we were treated like royalty and the staff could not do enough for us and with wonderful good cheer. The "tent" was very comfortable with private bath and shower - a wonderful accommodation that allowed us to hear the wildlife at night. Also, the food was incredibly good. The staff sang and danced for us on the final night and feasted us with a special cake made that day! I highly recommend this camp to you.

What a fantastic place! We were 5 persons, staying for one night on our way between Arusha and Pangani. We did not see animals in the reserve, but our experience in the camp made up for that. The tents were nice, good Space between them made us feel the silence and aloneness in the wilderness. The food is just excellent, dinne served on white cloth in an open tent besides the bonfire and one of the best breakfast we had in Tanzania. The staff was outstanding, kind and professional. This is rally a place worth a visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Babu's Camp. The location is stunning, amidst the impressive baobab trees and with panoramic views, the food is very tasty and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The tents probably have had their best times but they are spacious. Not super luxurious but providing all the comfort you need and ensuring the perfect bush experiencing. Waking up with the sounds of so many birds is incredible! The lodge just perfectly blends into the environment. Like most of the guests, we were the only ones at the time. Great for us to have a complete private camp, but it's sad that so very few visitors know about this area. The scenery is beautiful and diverse, the roads are being well maintained and there is a lot of wildlife to see. As a matter of fact, many species you wouldn't find in other national parks in the north. For us it's definitely one of the most special areas in this country!

It’s always nice to be the only ones at camp…even though it makes one wonder how do camps survive with such occupancy rates? Nevertheless, our stay was most pleasant spoiled for choice with every staff member vying for and providing us with attention. Babu’s is definitely a rustic camp, but that said the rooms are very spacious, comfortable and lovely. Showers were hot and pressure was plenty. The walk between the mess and our tents was fascinating, always yielding a fascinating bug, insect, spoor or bird. The feeling that you are in the middle of a wilderness could be read on the camps trail sands, where we could identify the spoor of genets, mongoose, porcupine, serval, hyaena, etc. We even saw a Caracal stride through camp, a melanistic Serval not far from camp, and heard a roaring pride of lions stroll near camp. The food was simple, not elaborate, but wholesome, home-made and very tasty. They had a great selection of drinks and a wonderful fireplace to gather and wind down the day…plus every night they came up with a different snack be it pop corn, freshly roasted cashews or warm salted peanuts. Stately baobabs and a very well attended birdbath that attracted Brown Parrots, Violet Woodhoopes, Von der Deckens Hornbills, Superb Starlings and even Greater Honeyguides was a most entertaining feature. Having experienced other sites in the area, I would not hesitate to recommend Babu’s as the most cost effective and efficient camp in Mkomazi NP…. definitely will be back!!
