This is our second stay.. Last one in 2012.. We enjoy the friendly atmosphere with the local people and all their dogs! Hosts are chatty and helpful and offer a good English breakfast. Rooms are basic but clean and roomy with shower or bath and tea making facilities. Easy parking at the back of the hotel near the paddock with... More

After lunch was shown to room. It was spottlessly clean and welcoming. No sign of previous dogs, smelt fresh and was tastefully decorated. One of us didn't want the full English breakfast that was no problem. Enjoyed scrambled eggs.Good nearby country walks.

We were made to feel very welcome, very friendly bar staff and a reasonable selection of real ales - forced to try them all - they were excellent and well kept ... hic! 8-) Didn't eat here, but the fish and chip night on the Friday night seemed very popular and the pub was packed out with locals - always... Thought tthe meal here was pretty average, but nothing special. The pub offered economy meals two for £10 reasonabl considering todays market. Thought the decor, upholstery and carpets needed an urgent face-lift, however We are aware of the struggle experienced running a country pub but a make-over would not go amiss here.Pub atmosphere is good and nice to hear Devon... My partner and I stumbled across this place as we had actually broken down on one if the nearby lanes. We have never been made to feel more welcome. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere in the pub was very cosy. They had lovely ales and the pub itself had a huge amount of character. We... More

Driving in the beautiful Dartmoor countryside we happened to be in Dunsford around lunchtime. The Royal Oak public house had a large car park and an impressive frontage , so we walked in. The Barmaid was eating her own lunch at one of the tables and apart from one customer the place was empty. We ordered two ploughmans lunches and sat... More

This review is devastating and I suspect will have an real impact on our future trade. I am very saddened by such a negative view of our much-loved family business. As the 'bar-maid' in question, I must apologise for having my sandwich during the lunch session. As you observed, it was very quiet and I had been working since 6... More

Best Friday night dinner. We didn't know about the accommodations- but we had drinks every night during our stay in Dunsford. Friday night dinner was a recommendation from a local couple. Best recommendation ever! Busy place but efficient owner and staff.

We stayed in the village in one of the cottages nearby for a week, so cannot comment on the accommodation. The pub is deceptive from the outside but as soon as we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, yes a few dogs there but all well behaved and certainly not a nuisance. We arrived on fish & chip night and... More
