Bull's Retreat, is named after its mentor Col. Narinder 'Bull' Kumar, one of India's most celebrated mountain climbers. The resort welcomes adventurers and pilgrims alike. Nestled amidst a lush forest and landscaped gardens on the Badrinath yatra route, it's just a 30 min drive from Rishikesh. Rafting and trekking for the adventurous, or yoga and mediation on the beach by the Ganga river just a 10 minute walk away, for the introspective - take your pick.

Hotel's Favorite
First things first...It is not a regular hotel or resort. It doesn't have room service or minibar in the rooms. Good thing is, it is prominently mentioned in the website at the time of booking. Frankly that's a good thing as you can saunter down to the dining hall through the well manicured garden & spend some time at the museum on the floor above. The positive vibes as soon as you enter are very welcoming. We were a family of 4 traveling with our pet. We booked into the forest hut but on arriving we found it a tad congested. Mr. Arif, who was supervising, immediately upgraded us to the super deluxe suites located on the first floor which were delightfully decorated. We stayed in Nanda devi & Sagar mantha which have a nice balcony overlooking the gardens & adjoining forest. The rooms had wrought iron beds & comfy mattresses, blessing for our tired spines after the inordinately long drive owing to the traffic jams & work going on for the badrinath highway widening project. There is provision for hot water which is sourced by solar power. Power backup is thankfully efficient as there are lot of power cuts in the area. Coming to food...the chef prepares sumptuous homely stuff with minimal spices & salt. The absolute must have is the kurkure bhindi! The morning buffet is perfect & well organized. There is morning & evening tea served with biscuits in the garden area. The play area is good enough for the tiny tots or furry friends to be happily engaged. There are hammocks by the side where the parents can keep a discerning eye whilst reading a book or sipping a cool lemonade. There are other physically challenging activities such as rock climbing & Burma bridge. A badminton cum basketball court amidst the jungle treeline is an added bonus. The walking trail to the riverbanks didn't happen coz of the high water level but instead a guided tour took us to another bigger riverbank a couple of kilometres away. That place is magical & serene where you can easily spend quality time esp for the shutterbugs! The place comes alive after dusk with the lights taking effect & the jungle sounds becoming more pervasive. The Downside of this property is that parking is limited & is outside the gates, so with all the construction activity on the road the cars end up in bad shape by the morning. Another area of improvement would be the plaster peeling off the walls & the bathroom fittings. If your objective is to be one with nature and to have a family bonding time, this retreat should be right up there with the best! Kudos to the warm staff and management for making Google, our golden retriever feel so much at home! Looking forward to a winter rendezvous!!

Dear Sir, Thank you so much for taking out the time to write a detailed review - truly appreciate it! I'm glad Arif took the decision to immediately upgrade you - the rooms you stayed in, Nanda Devi and Sagarmatha are both mountains scaled by our MD Col. Bull Kumar. In fact, every room at Bull's Retreat is named after a mountain or river scaled or rafted by the Col. himself:-). Your point regarding the minor repairs required is duly noted and we usually carry out our repairs during the off-season in July and August. The highway expansion project alongside our property continues all the way to Badrinath - but thankfully, the portion outside our property has been completed. So we won;t be facing the dust issues any longer. Look forward to hosting you again in the winters - truly a lovely time to be there! Regards Akshay

This small but beautiful resort is hands down the best place to unwind yourself. Rooms are clean, staff are very helpful. Food is fine, they can however surely bring a bit more variety for the buffet spread. The best part is, it is pet-friendly. Do meet two lovely puppies named as Tango and ASHA.

Nice, quaint place at Rishikesh...its owned by Col Bull Kumar, an ex army man... A great man! U can read all about him on the net. The rooms r nice and well kept. The food is tasty... A-la-carte can be ordered.. The best part about the place is the kuchcha road that goes down to the Ganges... In the summer, u can bathe in the cold water... Theres a lovely collection of books too. The resort also offers adventure activities like rafting, at a price. The best part is the place is right on the highway, but not noisy... This could b a good place to break ur journey while on an expedition.
