My husband and I stayed at Como Shambhala Estate in Bali in September 2024, and it was one of the most transformative hotel experiences we've ever had. Como Shambhala Estate is the perfect mix of luxury, serenity, and cultural experiences.
What We Loved:
Serene Surroundings: The estate is tucked away amidst tropical jungle, it's so peaceful and secluded. The views and sounds of nature made it feel like we were in our own little paradise, a world away from New York City.
Stunning Room: We stayed in our own pagoda, with a fully outdoor bathroom which was a unique experience. This was the epitome of having our own private retreat in the middle of the rainforest.
Water Blessing: We took part in a traditional Hindu water blessing on the property, and it was a really special experience -- something we’ll definitely never forget.
Amazing Staff: The entire Como Shambhala Team was were incredible, especially our guest assistant Tini. She made us feel like we were staying at a friend’s home; her warmth and hospitality were truly remarkable.
Cultural Excursions: We had a great day exploring the neighboring Ubud rice terraces and Balinese temples. Our guide, Gede, was fantastic! He helped us understand so much about Balinese culture and history.
The Como Shambhala Spa: Honestly, it's out of this world. We had a wellness consultation with Kim, who was incredibly helpful, and we tried acupuncture for the first time. Now, I’m hooked and still doing it back home in New York!
Last but not least, the Food: phenomenal! Healthy, fresh, and absolutely delicious.
We seriously can’t recommend Como Shambhala enough! It’s the perfect spot to unwind, recharge, and soak in everything Bali has to offer. We can’t wait to come back!

The Shambhala is a wellness sanctuary in the very spiritual and heart filled Bali. The immediate feel, the scent and service that you encounter when laying foot on the property simply puts you at ease and makes you want to slow down. I visited the estate on a solo trip but a friend joined me for a good chunk of it. The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home and regularly checked on us and asked us what we needed. You can either book just a room and have wellness services added on or (as my friend and I did it) choose a wellness path which is inclusive of high quality treatments - Ayurvedic or Chinese Medicine related - food and other things. I loved doing a path because it got much of what I wanted covered. It was extensive so I probably could have chosen one where there weren’t as many classes but because the instructors were all so good, it was actually beneficial to take those. My highlights were the lunch we had at the Kedara - a beautiful hike down through the property with stunning rainforest and temple vibes, the 90 min massage treatments, the cold plunge, hydro pool and just the freshest food and drinks you could imagine. Our personal concierge, Ayu, was just the best also. She helped coordinate so much and was very informative, professional and friendly. Would totally return to this piece of heaven on earth one day soon!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
A quiet hotel that seems to blend in with the vast jungle forest. It has a mystical atmosphere like ruins, a chic design that isn't flashy, and large grounds as far as the eye can see. Surprisingly, if you look for hotels in these conditions, you will find it difficult to find hotels in the world. This is my second time here, but it makes me feel like if I'm ever going to come to Ubud, it's just here.
We shared one pool in four rooms, but rarely met other vacationers. The spring pool, which looks like a straight pool of spring water in the jungle, is also special. You can also use Self Rowling's dry sauna for free, and you can swim in the pool just outside, although there is no water bath.
It's in the back so you can't hear any cars. Monkeys and birds can also come close to you to feel like you are in nature. We had a poolside lunch and prayer activity, and prayer is a very Recommendation.
The hotel staff are all very kind. It is also convenient to communicate with Butler at Watts Up.
The only regrettable point is that the rafting crowd was a bit loud near the river, the food was quite light, probably because of the health consciousness, and the light menu was a bit unsatisfactory. Everything else is perfect and I will definitely come again.

Had a rather lovely stay here but wish it was better.
Nice, serene ambience throughout. The best part of the stay is the breakfast - chef deserves a huge round of applause. Everything we had for the 2 days was delish and the menu was well curated.
Each room has a butler to addressed to you and you can contact him/her by whatsapp. Quite useful. However, there is a lapse in service especially when you have a few suites checking out in the same residence. SOP needs to change here. We had to wait in the sun for the buggy while the other room checks out. And our car even had to wait for our baggage to arrive! Better planning is needed. Nonetheless, our butler was personable and warm.
The walk from the spa to the residences needs a new route. Doesnt make sense to walk one big round.
We paid about $1000 a night (stayed for 2 nights). No jacuzzi in our room. Shared pool with 4 other rooms. Meh. Have to go OUT of our room and down the stairs to use the bathroom. However, lovely views of the greens.
30minute ride by car to main town.

I only wished I’d been here earlier. I’ve always wanted to come to this property even when it was first built and known as Begawan Giri. It’s taken me about 20 years to get here and perhaps the wait was worth it.
On the pluses —
To call this a resort seems unworthy. Hence the title a property. The grounds are extensive and beautifully manicured yet not overly so with the jungle just ever so creeping in. Just walking around the hotel grounds is magical.
The vitality pool and Kedara or naturally fed spring pools is a must to swim in.
The food sublimely prepared and very yummy yet healthy. Overcomes the urban myth that healthy food can be tasty. My son managed to eat healthier for 5 days which was a key reason for why we came.
The classes — perhaps one of the best parts of the resort. Yoga or Pilates classes with Monica is a MUST to attend. Yoga at the outdoor yoga bale in the rain was one of my highlights. As with a private Pilates class with her.
I came on a 5-day stay with my 9 year old. I was worried the hotel and staying guests would not be keen to host my 9 year old. Instead the staff were super accommodating & the other guests were gracious and kind.
We chose the Integrated Wellness Program that included a consultation with Dr Prasanth. You get a personalised schedule based on his recommendations and your preference on classes — loved this. Perfect for Type A people seeking a retreat from gadgets, poor sleeping patterns…
Lastly the hotel suite tasteful, practical with excellent, discrete and detailed housekeeping.
On the negatives — hard to find any but if I had to point some out… The rooms can be a bit dark with the wood panelling and soft lighting. The hotel brought in some extra lights for us which was again just underscores their excellent service.
Spring pools were closed for many days during our stay due to heavy rains. Jungle gym is shut indefinitely due to damage from floods.
In short — a must for anyone looking for time away from a hectic city life.

We had the absolute best experience here! We were in Bali for our honeymoon for 12 days, stayed at 4 different five-star resorts. Como Shambhala had by far the best hospitality. We stayed in como shambala suite in Tirta Ening residence and our room was beautiful and spacious, especially the outdoor bathtub and jacuzzi. Food was outstanding, we especially enjoyed the breakfast with the amazing view. Everything was perfect and we couldn't have asked for better. We traveled around a lot but we've never felt more at home and welcomed. What made our experience at Como shambala stand out the most was definitely our personal assistant Wan (Kadek Setiawan). After finishing our 12 days trip, we can confidently say that Wan was the best staff we met in Bali. We enjoyed talking to him a lot and he was very helpful in many ways. When we were curious what other residences looked like, he showed us around rooms that weren't occupied. We were so lucky to have him as our personal assistant. We will be back!

Dear Somie K, Warmest greetings from COMO Shambhala Estate – a true Retreat for Change. Thank you for taking your time to share your review with other travelers on TripAdvisor. It is humbling to hear that you had a standout experience with us. For that, we credit our COMO Shambhala Estate team, particularly Wan. We are also happy to know that you loved your room in Tirta Ening (Sanskrit for ‘Clear Water’). Perhaps on your next visit, you can experience staying in the other Residences. They are Bayugita (Sanskrit for ‘Wind Song’), Wanakasa (Sanskrit for ‘Forest in the Mist’) or the one shown by Wan - Tejasuara (Sanskrit for ‘Sound of Fire’) or Umabona (Sanskrit for ‘House of the Earth Son’). Each of the residences is unique; none are alike. We are looking forward to welcoming you back home to the Estate in the near future. Till then, our best wishes for you. I chose COMO Shambhala Estate because I wanted to be away from the crowds and I wanted to avoid the busy area, turns out my decision was right! I booked the hotel few months before my arrival and from there they already had been answering my requests on whatsapp which is amazing!
Upon arrival, we received warm welcomes from the staff. We stayed here for 4 nights and it was the best of Bali. We spent a day staying in because the property itself is very big, we explored around from having a massage to going down to having picnic lunch down by Ayung River, we also took a dip into the natural pool! So glad we got to take a hike down the picnic spot, definitely recommend doing that if you stay here. Also I don’t think staying in for only one day is enough, I wish I had more times doing all kinds of activities held at COMO. And My personal butler, Dimas, a young gentleman had showed us tour around the property upon arrival and had been taking well care of me and my husband during the stay. We greatly appreciate the efforts and help from Dimas. He took care of us everyday, and been helping us with breakfast arrangement when we had activities going on early morning. He would also check on us when we were touring in ubud.
This hotel is set in a beautiful forest. Day and night are different here. It’s away from the crowds so all you hear is the sound of nature. It gets pretty dark and quiet at night and you will see a sky full of twinkling stars when you look up. Every moment here is breathtaking. So sad we didn’t get to see the sunset this time tho! Next time maybe! I really would not forget this place and the memories made here.
Also, thank you for preparing us anniversary bouquet! It was so lovely and I took pretty pictures with it!
Highly recommending COMO Shambhala Estate!

We are so glad to hear that we were able to meet your expectations regarding the service and setting of the hotel, especially to make your anniversary a truly memorable one. I agree that it is difficult to fully experience all we have to offer in just one night. Glad too that you both enjoyed the water garden. It is a unique feature of which we are very proud, the water naturally enriched with minerals, flows from our own natural source. This hotel is life changing. It’s expensive for Bali but totally worth the price. On this same trip I stayed at the st Regis Bali which is the same price as this hotel and como Shambhala was SO much better and absolutely loved the st Regis. Out of my 3 week trip to Bali this was my favorite hotel. The staff takes care of you so well, attending to all of your needs. For example I went to a store in Uluwatu earlier in my trip and there was a pair of pants I really wanted but they didn’t have my size. My size was available while I was staying at como shambhala and they reached out to the store for me and had the pants delivered. It’s worth the money for that kind of service. For the airport transportation it’s more than a grab car but someone met me at the airport and carrier my bags to the counter. It was just so nice. All the food was amazing and healthy so I didn’t feel bad over eating. There were so many healthy activities on the schedule so I was never bored or just sitting around drinking like I did at most hotels. I felt totally rejuvenated and in the best health by the end of my stay. I did the water blessing with a real Indonesian priest at the hotel and it was life changing. Such an amazing experience. The massage I got at the hotel was expensive for Bali but I really do think worth it because it was so well done. The spa itself is so beautiful and calming. The yoga classes were awesome. I loved the instructor. The best yoga classes in Bali that I took were at this hotel. I really enjoyed just how well taken care of and pampered I felt at this hotel. It was great for solo travelers because there was so much to do and other solo travelers so I never felt out of place. At some of the other hotels on my trip it was mostly just honeymooners and this was a place that people came to get healthy and enjoy. It was amazing and I cannot wait to come back.

Staying at Como Shambala was a truly a transformative experience. Delicious food, breathtaking views, and outstanding services
The estate has serenity that no other place holds a candle to. The resort itself is a haven nestled in the lush jungle of Ubud, with scenery straight from a book or Ghibli film.
Our room was luxurious and comfortable, with an infinity pool, in-room sauna, outdoor dining area, and multiple areas to lounge - a sanctuary to truly unwind. We were also close to the dining rooms and the yoga pavilion for daily classes, which was a major plus.
During my stay, I had the pleasure of having Dimas as my personal assistant. His attentiveness and professionalism exceeded our expectations and his pleasant demeanor was refreshing. He went above and beyond to elevate our experience and made all our needs were met. My husband and I felt well taken care of throughout our time there.
Additionally, Ayu, from activities, lead many of our guided experiences provided by the resort. We had the opportunity to do a ceremonial blessing, hydrotherapy, and a bike tour with her. She was fun, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the beauty of Ubud and we really appreciated her insights. She did a great job sharing and explaining parts of the ritual and significance in her culture.
We highly recommend your stay here!

Ubud from the airport- about 90 min. There are many transport companies at the airport, but the estate will arrange transport (and charge) if requested, stay at the resort and enjoy activities there- avoid Ubud... no mosquitoes. I am not sure re extra bed/cot- i stayed in a villa- well worth it and very private
When we were there (February) it was relatively cold. I am not sure about the exact temperature, but it was less than the air temperature (26-28 C). We could stand it though and it was really pleasant to swim in.
