Almost wish I had never stayed here... because now all I do is daydream about going back. The lodge is an architectural treasure, full of quirky little details and decorations that make it feel both cozy and adventurous, like a childhood treehouse. The grounds are beautiful and most importantly quiet. If you ever wanted to escape to the edge of the known world and get away from all of the aggravating people in your life, this is the place to do it. I was honestly shocked at how few people were there when my dad and I stayed on a Saturday night, and I almost don't want to tell anyone about it just to keep it that way. The on-site staff were great and the price was absurdly reasonable. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Maine.
Earlier this month my husband and I spent two nights in the main lodge of this wonderful resort. We had never been here before, nor even been inside the property, but had seen a good nightly rate through TripAdvisor. The purpose of our stay was a family reunion in P.Q., Canada, but our schedule was a bit on the full side. What a shame! Had I known we were going to be in such fantastic lodging, I would have planned more "down time" just to enjoy the amenities. Of course, the lodge and cabins are all on a "log cabin" theme, complete with taxidermied wild animals and wood carvings as decor.. I happen to love art, memorabilia and books, and there were plenty of all of these things to enjoy. (For instance, there was a beautifully preserved, intricate, old player piano.) The lobby/lounge area was spacious, cozy and inviting, with lots of comfy chairs to read in. There was a fire going in the fireplace our second night there. In the evening, homemade cookies, tea and coffee were available at the front desk, and in the morning were homemade blueberry muffins and coffee. There was a T.V. room with DVD's and books, a game room, and dining room(s) for catered events. In another building was a fitness center, which we did not have time to investigate, and in another building was a model train and car exhibit of some kind, which you make an appointment for. There was an outside swimming pool and walking/ski trails. Jackman is in itself a place of gorgeous natural and scenic beauty, slow paced -- a quiet, friendly, small town with old fashioned values. Hunters, fishermen, boaters and ATV'ers / snowmobilers are drawn here. Folks headed to Canada also stay in Jackman. If you like different action than what Jackman affords, you may want to head in another direction. Our bedroom suite was also cozy, large and inviting, with a couch/sitting area and desk. (All bedroom suites in the main lodge had fireplaces, but apparently they are not for use due to insurance purposes.) WiFi connection was great with the lodge password. The front desk sells some neat souvenirs, such as maple syrup, logo knit hats, etc.. Besides the warm, inviting, comfortable beauty of Sky Lodge's main lodge, I most appreciated the peace and quiet. We did not hear other guests, and slept wonderfully in a comfortable bed. Meals have been offered on site in the past, and may again be in the future (for an additional charge, I'm sure). If so, how convenient! (There is no microwave or frig in the rooms of the main lodge, but the desk clerk offered us frig space elsewhere because we asked.) I have one word of advice. The evening desk clerk leaves at 8:00pm. Although you can still get in if you arrive later, I recommend arriving before the front desk clerk leaves for the evening in case you need help, have questions, etc. We had trouble with the heat in our room the first night, so arriving earlier than 8pm is best. (There is a number to call after 8pm if you do need help.) My husband and I hope this is the first of many happy stays at Unity College's "Sky Lodge", whether crossing the border or not!…
The lodge is stunning, and welcoming. The staff is second to none! The amenities were many, something for everyone! The train and car museums are so interesting, and a must see!! We plan to bring friends for day trips, to see the museums again, and plan to do an overnight next Summer.
We went for a weekend visit for our anniversary, and fell in love with the place. Our host Gordon was extremely nice and really made us feel at home. Highly recommended! We will definitely be going back.
I stayed in the main lodge and just loved it. The bed was extremely comfortable - I slept like a rock. Food was fantastic. I would definitely come back when I have more time to check out the beautiful area!
