I would highly recommend this hotel. It feels very sophisticated and captures a sense of luxury that is pretty rare for Australian city hotels. The public spaces are really great- even at 7pm on a Sunday night, the Stillery had a great vibe and awesome cocktail list. Sake just downstairs from the hotel is fresh modern Japanese. My room was beautiful. The view from the fourth floor overlooking Double Bay feels like classic Sydney. The rooms are bright, and the day bed added a little sophistication. The location is one of the great strengths. Sydney is full of beautiful old suburbs and even overseas visitors would see a special side of the city to stay here. Its easy access to Bondi, Oxford Street, Watson's Bay and the CBD via Taxi or Ferry. There is great breakfast just outside…
Here just for the night, staff are friendly and helpful. Room is large with all you need for a enjoyable stay. Walls are paper thin though, you can hear everything what other guests are doing. Staff are also minimal in every department for a 5 star establishment.
This hotel definitely gives Sydney's other 5 star offerings a run for its money. Our deluxe bay view room was very spacious and well appointed. The room was spotlessly clean and the furnishings all in very good order. The bathroom is one of the biggest I've seen in a Sydney hotel. While we didn't engage much with the hotel staff, when we did the service was professional and efficient. We ate nearby at one of the many restaurants and bars, but the in-house offerings seemed very popular. While a little out of the way, cabs are readily available at about $15 for one way to the city.
If I could give half stars I would have rated this 3 1/2 - 3 is probably too harsh and 4 too generous. We stayed one night recently for a kid free night away for my husbands birthday and had an enjoyable stay but there were definitely some flaws. Now there were definitely some positives - the rooms have been nicely renovated with beautiful furnishings and the staff were friendly (although many obviously still in training) We arrived and were told we had been upgraded from a courtyard view to a village view - I would honestly have preferred to stayed with the courtyard view as our "village view" room on level 2 looked right out onto a brick wall and the small patio was littered with cigarette butts - perhaps thrown down from the balconies above? We headed to the rooftop bar for a…
Visited upon grand opening and just now and improvements have been dramatic. Although the concierge desk seems to be constantly unmanned. Instant service, the single phone option to connect you to front desk, bell hop, room service can ring out - several times before connecting. Once it is answered all requests are carried out without fuss. The restaurant SAKE is fantastic, although I'm not certain if it is a 'hotel restaurant' as such as you don't appear to be able to charge the bill to your room. Don't forget your wallet! Security are present upon entry after dark and can be a little overzealous about letting in 'NON NAMED GUESTS' into the premises. So it was a little amusing that my wife was getting a bit of a hard time to come upstairs while our kids and babysitter were…
