Stayed here for 8 nights as a group of 7, prior to arriving I had read very mixed reviews but I like to make my own mind up as everyone has their own options likes and preferences. Now I am not a fussy person what so ever and don’t expect a holiday to go exceptionally perfect but I’ll do an honest option of our time at Sunmelia. Transfer from he airport was around an hour and 40 mins in which we had a 15 minute stop off for a toilet and smoking break , we went past a few busy areas on our route however arriving at the Sunmelia in dark it appeared there didn’t seem much around. This is correct , your pretty much in the arse end of nowhere , there is a strip of markets and an Armadale down the road but in 40 degree heat it was too far to walk so we got in a taxi, taxi cost 5 euro each way as everything is in euro on this side of Turkey, we usually go to altinkum so are used to lira, we used lira on the whole of this holiday however the locals don’t really like it, a staff member told us this is because the Turkish can change the euro and get a better exchange rate meaning they are making extra money, if you prefer lira stick with it they do take it everywhere. If you like to venture out in an evening for food or drinks it’s a 25 minute taxi into the main resort which was 20 euros each way. This side of Turkey seems expensive compared to what we are used to over in altinkum, we nipped into side old town one evening for food, the old town it’s self is stunning but again we found it more expensive than we are used to in Turkey and one meal out cost over £250. Cocktails are around 12 euros each for those who enjoy a cocktail. The weather all week was 40 degrees so the air on in the room was very welcoming , it works well but will cut off as soon as you open the balcony door. Wifi in the hotel worked mostly everywhere however cuts on and off constant unless you’re in the lobby bar or reception. The hotel - the hotel itself is lovely however the guests are awful, rude arrogant. I’ve never experienced anything like it in Turkey before and I go Turkey pretty much every year but as I say I go the other side of Turkey , there is very few English there and it appears they are the only ones with manners, no one seems to know the meaning of waiting your turn and pushes in constant , guests leave their towels out on the sun loungers the night before which I haven’t seen before either so if you want a decent bed by the poolside your needing to be up at 7am , there is plenty of sun beds to go round though but everyone goes for the poolside ones. Food is typical Turkey food and doesn’t cater much for English , my family didn’t really enjoy the meals however I had no issues with any meal and enjoyed them all except breakfast , that’s a complete waste of time going to unless you like mincemeat topped with fried egg or chips. The donnor meat they do in the evening is delicious. The poolside snack isn’t great it’s hotdogs that are cold or some donut type thing which are tasty, the beach snack bar in the day is your best option as do have a selection of burgers nuggets pasta bolognaise , chicken wraps stuff like that aswell as your salads. Drinks are your standard alcoholic drinks abroad and they do efes in the hotel which my husband usually likes however found it very gassy so was buying desperados in the hotel shop , these were 5 euros each, I ordered a Malibu and coke in the lobby bar for a change from gin and this cost 10 euros , and yes we were all inclusive. Our room was provided with clean towel and bedding daily however floor wasn’t cleaned once. I personally wasn’t bothered as I’m only in there to sleep and shower but for those who like it thoroughly cleaned daily be prepared for this not to happen. The maids did leave a lovely surprise with petals on the bed and a swan towel. Some staff there are lovely and others are rude and will serve the foreigners before the English even if you are infront of them. Animation team - the animation team really do make this hotel as enjoyable as it was, they work so hard and really get the guests to engage in activities , I’d like to personally thank YUNUS for entertaining my husband all week so I had a chance to sunbathe 🤣 YUNUS is by far the best staff member in the animation team, so friendly, fun and polite to all the guests, he even makes the effort in the evening with guests and will be missed on our next trip to Turkey as next time it’s back to altinkum. ANGELIKA made aqua aerobics the most enjoyable , lovely friendly lady who has the guests doing a lovely workout that you can follow easily , the other ladies were lovely too however a little too fast to keep up in the pool. And again ANGELIKA made the effort in the evenings to come over for a chat and engage. Cannot thank those two enough for making myself and my family have such an enjoyable week. For the smokers , do not buy your cigs in the hotel , it seems that because there isn’t anything around the hotel everyone around is ripping you off left right and centre, hotel charges 5 euro a pack of 20, there is an at sale down the road which was 35 euros a sleeve which is still more expensive than altinkum but if you go into the bigger of the bizarre markets down the road there is a little shop in there that charges 20 euros a sleeve. To sum it up the hotel itself is lovely but could improve a little with the breakfasts to cater to all, some staff do ask for a tip. The young man on the skates round the pool was lovely and polite, we tipped him 10 euros (he didn’t ansk) and he looked after us all week bringing us drinks to our sun lounger. Can’t really do anything about what guests book in there but the staff should at least take control and have some sort of order instead of allowing people to push in left right and centre, honestly the most rude arrogant vile guests I’ve ever been around , one even hit my teenager for spilling her drink 😤. Although I had a lovely week with my family and lots of laughs with YUNUS and ANGELIKA I think it’s safe to say I will not be returning to this side of Turkey , I’ll stick to the area I know best and love.…
