Arrived early and had a very welcoming breakfast with gluten and dairy free options, which was a real bonus as this is not common, but really appreciated. Had a very light and airy top floor room with a beautiful view over the gardens. The hotel is very clean, the staff very welcoming and hospitable. Diner was beautifully served, very delicious... My Husband and I like to getaway 3 times a year (without the little ones!) so finding somewhere like this is great, the staff are really friendly and the food is amazing, (don't let your chef go!!!) The hotel it's self is in need of some TLC, but the staff location and great food make it a little easier to... More

Interesting and quirky older hotel with comfortable beds and good breakfasts. Lovely garden outside and some lodges out in the grounds too. Staff were helpful and pleasant. A bit noisy if you're over the ballroom during a wedding but otherwise peaceful and relaxing. No lift so get someone to carry your case up the stairs.

The Grange, Thurston. Housekeeping is more than just changing bedsheets... dusting, (I hate spiders & cobwebs), window cleaning, floor washing (very sticky floor & tables in the bar). An old, atmospheric, building with old scrappy furniture to match. My bedroom dressing table strip light was missing, the lounge table lamp didn't work. The en suite was nice but no place... More

Very helpful, pleasant staff, willing to put themselves out. Good menu choice, and excellent vegetarian meal, although the meat (chicken) was too large a portion and rather dry-it needed a sauce-but the waiting staff recognised this themselves, and apologised. The desserts were good. Service a little slow for a large group (70 of us), but the staff were doing their... More

14 of us stayed here for 8 nights all blokes and had a few beers, well not me i don't drink. They only had Blue Becks, 0% Koppaberg would have been nice. Lovely grounds beautiful building but could do with some work. There is 3 wooden cabins as well as a good number of room. Couldn't fault the staff and food... More

The hotel itself and the grounds are very grand. The hotel is however very tired inside. This wasn't a problem to us. We found the majority of the staff ridiculously miserable, like helping was a major effort. (aside from the lady who served breakfast, she tooks us my surprise with her incredibly cheerful demeanour) The room itself had only one... More

Ok deep breath - here we go! We arrived to honour our internet booking, going through the main door of the hotel I walked to a dirty reception desk and rang the bell. I couldn't help immediately noticing the smell of damp and the poor condition of the paintwork in the lobby and up the stairs. I stood patiently waiting... More

Unfortunately this review is simply untrue. Mr Brookman tried to check in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, having booked a 4 night stay with us. Like any hotel we have a check in procedure before guests are provided with keys to their rooms. One of those check in procedures is that the guest is asked for a form of payment.... More

Had great difficulty in finding a vacancy for a double room on a midweek night in Bury St Edmunds in June. Eventually booked a log cabin at The Grange Hotel which is a AA 3* at a cost of £100 for b&b. The hotel reception is a little shabby but acceptable. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the 'log... More

Stayed here in Jun 16. The staff were rude, Had absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever or even people skills. The room was disgusting, the shower head was caked in black mould, it stank of stale smoke and the bed was so uncomfortable, the floor would have been better. The only saving grace is the breakfast. Not the standard of... More
