The Hopetoun Arms Hotel, originally constructed in the mid-19th century as a hunting lodge for the Hopetoun Estate, now forms the heart of the Scottish village of Leadhills in Lanarkshire and is the highest residential hotel in the United Kingdom. Set in the open countryside of the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands ‘twixt’ the rivers Nith and Clyde, the hotel is within one hour drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle, and just fifteen minutes from the towns of Sanquhar and Abington. Our family run private hotel and village inn offers eleven letting bedrooms, clean comfortable accommodation, good hospitality and excellent home cooked food, including a selection of mouth watering vegetarian dishes. We hold a full hotel license, so after your day out walking, cycling, golfing or just taking in the surrounding area, you can relax in comfort and enjoy a ‘wee dram’ in our fireside lounge, or if you prefer you can catch up with the friendly village locals in our cosy village bar. Whether your stay with us is on business or pleasure, you can be sure that after your stay with us is concluded, you’ll feel relaxed, invigorated and keen to return.

Stayed for two nights in September and found this hotel to be good value. Great food and service. Lovely large room, huge bathroom and comfortable bed. The staff were great, really friendly and happy to answer questions on the local area. It felt very safe with everyone adhering to the Covid rules. The village is nestled in the hills in a beautiful setting and is superb for walkers. I doubt you will see anyone else once in the hills. We will be back next year.

Just spent a week away in Scotland and this was by far and away the most comfortable room we stayed in, nice big bed, large bathroom, lots of toiletries, tea, coffee & biscuits. Food is all home cooked and excellent, including breakfast. Nice cosy bar area with a proper fire. Well placed for walking in the surrounding hills.

Stayed for two nights. Excellent location. Bedroom and ensuite nicely decorated and comfy. Made very welcome by Rachel & Rab. Covid restrictions in place and adhered to. Recommend the fish and chips. A hearty breakfast served by Nicky. Good selection. Would certainly recommend.

This was our first hotel stay after the easing of lockdown and we couldn’t have felt safer. All rules were followed without it interfering with our stay. We have stayed before and were not disappointed this visit. Rab and Rachel are always extremely welcoming and we always have a good banter. Their staff are really professional and coped marvellously with a huge influx of customers due to the Eat out to Help out initiative. We ate here the three nights of our stay and the food was lovely. The Scottish breakfast was also delicious. Our room was clean and comfy with a beautiful en-suite. The village is quiet and peaceful. Lovely wee break. We will be back.
