Was nervous about the poor reviews prior to staying here, but was pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for a hotel with a pool and room service and a flatscreen TV and an elevator that goes to all the floors, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a clean room with a comfortable bed and a great location, this is... More

This was my first time visiting Montreal and I really was looking for affordable places to stay. I booked with Hotel Villa and I was very worried because of some of the reviews that I read. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly by Francis, who was more than happy to give us a lot of recommendations about places... More

This place is literally the worst hotel I've stayed at. The bathroom was common for the entire floor, and wasn't clean. The room was the size of a tuna can, and was not clean at all, the bedsheets were dirty with stains, the windows were not working and the AC was so loud we couldn't sleep. I wanted to cancel... I stayed here for one night because everything else within a 40 minute drive was sold out and I had no choice. I was very skeptical based on the reviews I had read prior to staying however, it was not as bad as expected. Rooms do not look like the pictures, however if you just need somewhere to lay your... Room was far simple, but it's ok for a couple of nights. The only problems, which almost made me cancel the second night and run away was the terrible, old, twisted, unbearable bed. On the first morning, every inch of my back hurt badly! And, to get worse, the noise downstairs echoed as if the "party" was inside my room.... More

We got what the price range could get us. The bright side, is the location, the nice and helpfull staff and the fact that we had a room to sleep. It kind of looks a little poor and old fashioned, but then again, that's what we expected.

Overall it was fine. The room was clean with air conditioning and the location of the hotel was great. The downsides were that the bathroom was shared, the elevator was frightening and the building was grungy.

Good things about Hotel Villa: nice and helpful staff, free WIFI, room making and changing of the towels while you stay, I myself found it safe about the neighborhood, good location right on St Catherine, there is a wash basin in my room. Not so good things (or need improvements): the aircon is warm (it was quite hot when I... More

Staying in Quartier des Spectacles

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier des Spectacles
The bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theaters, and exhibition centers are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.
