I had a great time at Alexandrie Hostel. The location of the hostel is excelent, it's possible sighseeing by walk, and it's near to the bus stops and the metro station. The atmosphere is friendly and warmy. The staffs are very helpfull and friendly, specially Kader, who welcomed when I arrived freezing at the place and who I had good... More

First off, the staff here is just the nicest. We arrived way past their latest check-in time, and they still offered to wait for us for an additional hour. We were later than that, so we let them know we'd find something else for the first night. When we got to Alexandrie Hostel on our second day, they didn't charge... More

I went with a friend for the week-end at Montreal and we stayed in this very friendly Hostel, we were able to check-in way sooner before the indicated time (though it's not guaranteed but it was nice). We've booked a twin bedded room. The room was small but there was no need for more space because we had a livingroom... More

This was possibly the best hostel I ever stayed in. The atmosphere was so good, I felt at home instantly and after a day or two I never wanted to leave!! The staff and the long stay people do the trick. And the cool interior also contributes to the great ambiance. I met so many cool people here as well.... More

I didn't want to leave. This hostel is a special place, so far it's the best hostel I have stayed in. That's simply because of the atmosphere it has created and maintains. It is very easy to relax there because of how welcoming the staff are towards guests combined with a good group of volunteers and long stays supporting the... More

I stayed at the Alexandrie Hostel for 3 days and I must say that I probably had one of the most lovely hostel experiences ever. First of all, the owner (?) Luke was a great resource for almost anything you need to know about Montreal. He exudes so much pride in the city, that he was very willing to share... More

We stayed in the hostel for about 1 week and we have to say that we are completely satisfied! The simple and diversified facility serves its purpose. Kind staff and the filling breakfast, espacially the pancakes which are made with love, helped us to start our days! Even if the cook and washing devices are not the modernest, they fulfill... More

I came for a weekend for a conference with my brother and since it was a last minute thing, I was lucky to find a place to stay at a reasonable price. We were supposed to arrive around 10 PM but our bus was late getting in (surprise surprise!) so we had to call ahead and tell them to wait.... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighborhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomized by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
