Positives: Lovely comfortable bed Friendly and helpful staff Great location We stayed over Christmas and the staff left a small Xmas stocking handing on the door Negatives: We booked a suite, which turned out to be a large room with a desk. The fireplace was electric and emitted no heat. The 'state of the art' electronic equipment was an old...

This quaint and chic hotel is a wonderful mix of traditional and chic. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. My partner and I spent one night and hated to leave this part of Old Montreal. Very close to the shopping district (3 miles) and Old Montreal feels much like an old French city. Would definitely return to this...

WONDERFUL staff- friendly and super accommodating but the hotel I'm sorry to say is missing something. I keep thinking about it, but I just can't put my finger on it exactly. It isn't that something is wrong, it's just that something isn't quite right. The image doesn't exactly fit the profile. It honestly reminded me glorified Marriot or Holiday Inn....

We had our wedding there on December 2013 and it was just perfect. Everything about our Nelligan experience was just wonderful and so charming. We had the bridal suite which was so beautiful and so clean. The staff was always so friendly and warm. Throughout the wedding the service was impeccable and all our guests were praising about that. We stayed in a petite suite between Christmas 2013 and New Years 2014. The hotel is very cozy, stylish and welcoming. The staff is friendly, helpful but also easy going with no hint of pretentiousness. The location of the hotel in Old Montreal could not be better to walk to restaurants etc. The only thing I would suggest to improve...

For the money, one of the best properties I have ever stayed at. Lovely little boutique hotel, great bar and restaurant in lobby, easy to get to, great service, and extremely reasonable rates. Will definitely be returning on next trip to Montreal.

A charming hotel in the old city. From the moment we entered until we checked out it was fantastic. Waitstaff and concierge were wonderfully helpful, polite, and very engaging. We were there for 3 nights with friends and we all thought it one of the best hotel ever (including some very grand ones we stayed in in Europe). Lot of...

My wife and I just got back from a 6 night stay at this hotel over the new year's holiday week. We had a couple days where the hotel was completely empty and a few (NYE and the days around it) where it was fully booked. We stayed in an interior courtyard facing petite suite. The room service food/restaurant downstairs...

Exceptional service, location, amenities, decor. Just stayed one night, but the hotel is clearly a cut above the rest. Huge rooms, hot tub, gas fireplace, extremely helpful staff. Valet parking, complimentary fruit in lounge.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
