The Nelligan was amazing. From the second we walked in, we knew we'd have a great stay. Everyone at the desk and concierge was so warm, welcoming and kind. Maude was always there for us when we needed something. It also happened that it was my birthday during our stay, and they arranged to have chocolate cake and a sweet,...

My husband and I spent one night at Hotel Nelligan for our 35th anniversary and everything was perfect! The customer service was impeccable and accommodating, the rooms were beautiful, and they even surprised us with cake and chocolates for our anniversary. Best location in the Old Port too - footsteps from everything. I would definitely stay here again!

I was in Montreal for work in Jan 2017 for just one night - the Hotel Neligan was great - it's a great location - in Old Montreal just one block from Notre Dame. Exposed brick, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, large room, lots of windows that open. Nice buffet breakfast. Friendly reception staff, free wifi. Would definitely go there...

This hotel is the best in Old Town. I have been coming here for years. I haven't been in about 5 years but just visited 2 weeks ago and it has only gotten better. Great rooms, food, drinks, and the service is incredible.

The Nelligan is my go-to place when I am in Montreal... inviting, clean, quiet and well appointed. Friendly staff, prompt service and a genuine interest in a positive guest experience are at the core of their brand. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I were first timers traveling in Montreal and we are beyond lucky to say that we stayed at the best hotel in the city (in my opinion). If you take a look at the pictures I've submitted, everything was just beautiful - exceeded our expectations. More importantly however, was the staff. Not only was every single person...

We stayed here for the weekend and were very well looked after by the Hotel Nelligan team. We arrived mid-evening on our first day and having been very pleasantly surprised by our lovely room, wandered down to the restaurant (Verses) for dinner. We highly recommend the restaurant. Amazing boutique hotel in old Montreal. Right beside Notre Dame Basilica and the port. We selected a King room with a view, as we thought Atrium room would be noisy. The hotel was incredibly quiet, so I do not think this would be an issue. The room was comfortable, quiet, very clean and the bathroom was very spacious. Excellent service...

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
