Hotel Nelligan's charm is often celebrated by guests who appreciate the luxurious amenities such as the indulgent jacuzzis and the cozy fireplaces. The rooftop terrace, with its breath-taking views, also stands out as a highlight. While the rooms score points for spaciousness and comfort, some visitors note issues with noise and the occasional dated element.
The hotel's cleanliness and inviting atmosphere receive consistent accolades, although opinions on value for money are divided. Despite some reports of noise disturbances, the friendly and attentive service, alongside the hotel's enviable location in Old Montréal, ensures a memorable stay.

Detailed Reviews
This is a very nice hotel, in a great location if you want to be in the old city. The room is lacking some basic modern touches, like being able to plug in your phone and tablet next to the bed, rather than on the desk across the room. The light swtich is only next to the door, without another switch for the room lights next to the bed. There are no reading lights next to the bed. The window can only be wide open or shut. If you want just a little fresh air, that is not possible. The shower was just OK. Minimally adequate water pressure, a very weak flow from the handheld, and useless tiny jet sprays on the shower unit. The location of the sort-of rainshower forces you to either stand with one foot over the drain, or stand in a sligtly awkward stance. The shower door left a gap when closed, so some water gets on the floor. The bed was pretty comfortable.
The breakfast at their restaurant Nelli was fine, but they play loud muzak which is unpleasant at any time, and especially at 7:00 am when you want to relax or read the paper.

Dear XXNYC, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We appreciate your kind words about our hotel's location and the hotel overall. However, we are sorry to hear that we fell short of meeting your expectations in some areas. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the lack of modern touches in the room, such as the placement of power outlets and light switches, and the absence of reading lights next to the bed. We have taken note of your feedback and will review the layout of our rooms to see if we can make improvements to enhance the guest experience. We are sorry that you found the shower to be lacking in water pressure and functionality. We will ensure that our maintenance team checks all the shower units to ensure they are functioning optimally. Regarding the shower door, we will look into ways to improve the door's seal to prevent any water from escaping. Regarding the breakfast experience at Nelli, we are sorry to hear that you found the music to be unpleasant. We will review the volume and choice of music played to ensure that it does not disturb the ambiance of the restaurant and the guest's comfort. Thank you again for sharing your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Sincerely, Jeremy Ughetto Hotel Nelligan Management Team

This is probably my favorite hotel I have ever stayed in. The location is great for walking old Montreal, cruise terminal, metro stations, restaurants, Notre Dame Basilica, shopping, etc. The staff were very professional and helpful, with the desk clerks offering friendly services normally available by concierges. We were allowed to check in early, provided with a room upgrade and a bottle of chilled sparkling wine was sent to our room. The room was spacious, clean, nicely appointed with modern conveniences, fireplace and comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge and included a large shower and a garden tub with jacuzzi. The hotel’s Terrace restaurant on the 5th floor has very good food and has great views of the city and river. Be warned that reservations can be necessary even for lunch or brunch during weekends due to the popularity of this venue. The Nelligan is a wonderful hotel experience.

This is the most honest review I can write. We received a gift of a one night stay at the Nelligan for our 30th anniversary. We decided to use it to also celebrate a birthday. The check-in and valet parking were smooth, and they upgraded us to a suite, so that was nice. We went to the roof top terrace for a drink or two before heading out to dinner down the street at Modavie (great restaurant). My wife has a couple of lemon drop martinis, and they were just OK. I ordered a Hendricks gin and tonic which was delivered flat- the tonic had no carbonation at all. Ordered a replacement, it was perfect. Point being that for the prices charged, the drinks need to be memorable, and if you can do better at home then they need to pay attention to details and never serve an average or just OK drink. Oh did i mention even though we were guests at the hotel, they made us feel like they were doing us a favor by giving us a table.
We returned the following morning at 11 for brunch with our two daughters. Great views and they rolled out the awning as it was getting hot, so that was nice. the brunch menu was limited with only one choice of an omelet for vegetarians. The truffle omelet was just Ok by the two of us that ordered it, and the Bene burger with poached egg and hollandaise was severely over cooked. Getting coffee was difficult to say the least, they were short staffed for sure, and the order for 2 regular coffees resulted in an americano and a double espresso... apparently they don't do regular coffee, and with only one coffee machine, the wait was more than 10 minutes. We had to ask twice to bring cream for the coffee. Nobody came to ask if everything was ok, and we had to get up and get our own water jug as it looked like nobody was coming back. All in all it was an expensive brunch that was barely ok. Will not recommend it to anyone if they want to go somewhere special, there are many other placed to go that do it better. Easy fix for improvement: staff properly and pay attention to your customers. Please.

Hotel Nelligan is what I call a "poser" boutique hotel. They act as if they are an upscale, highly rated boutique hotel (not sure how they got the rating they did) but they are very far from it.
We booked a five night stay in a junior suite. Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a deluxe junior suite because we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The room (404) was quite large and had two windows facing out to Rue St. Paul. Minimal lighting and decor in the room, frustrating bathroom set up (huge tub and teeny shower and vanity), hand held shower head that wouldn't stay propped up.
In comparing the two different rooms on their website there didn't seem to be much difference at all. I think they upgraded us to this room because unbeknownst to us we would be woken up at 1 a.m. from all the noise out on the street and the music coming from their 5th floor terrace.
The next morning after getting very little sleep we asked to be changed to a different room. They act as if they are surprised to hear about the noise when I know they are very aware of it and just place you in one of these rooms fronting the street and hope it won't bother you or you won't complain.
We were moved to a smaller room on the third floor in the atrium area. It was actually a nicer room and did have double doors opening to the atrium. However, it was still very dark. The bathroom was much nicer although it had very little lighting. We were given a bottle of champagne for our troubles (which we never drank) and 30% off for the previous night. We felt like it should have been comped since we lost our whole morning packing up our bags and moving rooms!
The following day our mini fridge started leaking out onto the floor. They did respond and fix it.
Maid service was very stingy with bathroom items. Only one bar of soap for the sink and shower - I had to steal some off of their cart!
This place is definitely not a 4 1/2 star boutique hotel and over priced for the attitude they exude and the accommodations.

Living only 2.5 hours from Montreal in VT, we scheduled a four day visit, staying at Hotel Nelligan. It was a great choice, perfect location on the main street through Old Montreal with classic elegant ambience accented by original brickwork from an earlier era. Arrival was made very easy as we were greeted by the valet right by the front entrance who unloaded our car, and parked it for the duration of our stay as we didn't want to drive everywhere, but found a taxi driver who made himself available for our excursions. The Nelligan staff are super friendly and welcomed us warmly. The concierge service was especially outstanding as they guided us to the must-see, must-do attractions in the few days we spent there, and facilitated obtaining the tickets we needed. The restaurant staff were equally welcoming and personable, the food was delicious. Our room was an upgrade, so it was spacious with a fireplace and large soaking tub/jacuzzi. We'd definitely stay here again as the staff became friends and because the location is perfect for enjoying Old Montreal, close to Chinatown, and near to the City Center and underground malls.

Staying with Hotel Nelligan was a relaxing and amazing experience. The Superior Room with a king bed was so spacious and charming with its brick walls. The staff turned over the rooms twice daily, ensuring we always had a made bed, clean towels, and new soap/shampoo.
The location was perfect- right by amazing restaurants and the port, and a couple-minute walk away from bars, close enough for convenience but far enough to not be noisy.
The rooftop terrace overlooks the Notre Dame Basilica and always has catchy ambient music playing.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Service was exemplary from start to finish and even prior to our stay the hotel staff accommodated any of our pre-arrival requests. Hotel staff were extremely friendly on reception from check-in and always greeted us with a smile as we passed. The room was amazing, extremely spacious, tastefully decorated and exceeded our expectations. It is also worth mentioning the attentiveness of the in-room cleaning service, which was undertook twice a day and they always left a little treat. Given the holiday season, the mulled wine and gingerbread men in the lobby was a lovely touch. Overall, location fantastic and we could not have asked for anything more from Hotel Nelligan. The only point I would make is that a Smart TV (Netflix/Amazon availability etc) would have enhanced our stay even further, but this is merely a traveller suggestion.

We stayed three nights in this hotel which is located on a busy street in old Montreal. It is very convenient but if you have a room at the front of the hotel it is noisy especially at night.
When we stayed, Montreal was experiencing a heat wave - the feather comforter on the bed was ridiculous and it took some time to get a lighter blanket. The room was very large which was nice and had a very comfortable bed and pillows. Housekeeping service was excellent and water was provided. Toiletries were very nice.
We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on the first night - a salad arrived quickly but our steaks took 90 minutes to come as the order was lost in the kitchen. The staff apologised but this was not a good experience.
Concierge gave us a good list of local cafes and restaurants and tourist attractions but did not start work until 11 am so could not answer questions before that time.
Staff generally were good but our experience was mixed.

I don’t normally do reviews, but my recent stay at this hotel has prompted me to do so to forewarn other customers of their flawed policy.
On one of the afternoons, myself and a female friend were napping in the hotel. When I went to the bathroom, my female friend had gotten up and was walking around half naked when the housekeeping knocked on the door, waited a split second, and entered the room when they didn’t hear a response immediately. My female friend was traumatized. I complained to the front desk and supervisor.
They apologized, explained that they do an afternoon turndown service, and offered us a free breakfast in exchange for the violation of privacy. I didn’t want the free breakfast, so they then stated that I should have hung the “do not disturb” placard on the door to indicate that we didn’t want to be disturbed (suggesting that it was our fault, I suppose). However, I am fairly certain that the absence of the placard should not be an indication that the housekeeping staff may enter when they see fit. The hotel is very clean and the people were very nice, but they should change their policy to mention that there is a turndown service that will involve the housekeeping entering the room (and allow it as an opt-in or opt-out).
So I don’t blame the housekeeping for doing their job, but I blame the management for implementing the policy poorly, though with good intention. As a result, however, I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again knowing that my room is not private.

This was a wonderful hotel stay! The location in Old Montreal is beautiful and perfect, and only a block away from Notre Dame and a quick walk to Chinatown and Saint Catherine St. The valet was very convenient, and the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful! We were helped by Anthony and Solene. Our rooms were cleaned often, and to make the stay that much more special, we were given extra water bottles and chocolates every night in our room, AND our son was given a stuffed animal! I would absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone. It was a perfect stay.

Hotel Nelligan is in Montreal
It was $38 per night, valet. I believe they'll bring the car to you any time you need it, but we walked everywhere once we arrived.
There were two breakfast options in the included package. One was the classic American two eggs, toast, some ham, bacon and sausage, the other was the more Canadian croissants with yogurt and fruit. Coffee was included, but I believe juices and lates were extra. Both were good, very filling breakfasts.
Hi there is a valet service… a temporary parking spot in front of the hotel,
Have a good stay!!
