As an Accor Diamond member, I have stayed here almost every time I visit Montréal, this visit being my most recent - probably around 10 stays to date. The modern and fashionable foyer and the fantastic food, wine, and service (though rather pricey) Renoir restaurant are quite fitting with or indeed better than what one expects of a Sofitel. The location is good with some excellent restaurants nearby, the 24 bus stop just outside and the Peel metro less than a block away. Catching the 747 bus to the airport can require a bit of a short hike, but still convenient. The rooms are well appointed and decent in size but are beginning to date. The bathtubs and furniture have scrapes and marks through years of use. In terms of Sofitels worldwide, I would rate the rooms in the lower half of my expectations, though it can probably still wait a few years before I would say it needs a refresh. However, the small size of the bar, the proximity of the tables to each other, and the lack of a club lounge means that it can be difficult for business or other meetings. I would describe the staff in all areas as attentive and professional - though there have been times of frustration. In a visit in November 2021, when I asked concierge if there is a laundry service nearby, he suggested I use Google. On this visit in November 2022, I arrived late in the evening and when told I have debit cards and don’t use credit cards, I was told by the reception staff (not mentioning his name here) that it’s hotel rules to take CAD 100 per night deposit and for the minibar and movies to be switched off. When I said I have always only used debit cards and never had those insulting conditions before, he said that he was “just applying the rules”, and that these conditions are what is required unless “more deposit is given” (whatever that means). When I pointed out that this is quite insulting, he said with a smirk that he had worked there for 13 years and done hundreds of check-ins so he is not insulting, and turned to step away. Overall, I can recommend this hotel highly, but if you are checking in after 2230 or hope to have business meetings at your hotel, consider staying elsewhere. After this most…
The Sofitel GM is a large luxury house in downtown Montreal and was our gathering space for cruise up the St Lawrence. The exterior looks like an office building and other experiences make me think the current Sofitel GM started life as an office structure. Curbside and bell services were excellent. We were welcomed by senior staff and the front deck checkin was upbeat, professional and efficient. The lobby is attractive with the restaurant and lounge attached. Our king bed room and bathroom were very compact, bordering on tiny. Discussions with our companions ( same floor down the hall) indicated that not all rooms were our size. The unusual hall configurations and variable room sizes reinforce my thought that this house is an office conversion. Our room faced Sherbrooke which was a bit noisy around the clock. The compact room featured a very good king bed (and excellent linens) which only left room for a universal desk/ storage piece, one chair and two hassocks as the furniture suite. While the room may have been a wee bit small it featured many of the pluses (and a few minuses) of luxury hotel rooms. On the plus side- large flatscreen, safe, glass glasses and china cups, complementary internet, Bose radio, a wide selection of personal grooming aids and a very good hotel directory that offered an complete set of available services ( baby sitting, doctors, flowers, massages, newspapers, pet services, secretarial, etc.) On a lesser note, the room had the usual mini bar food and beverages for purchase- I assume they were expensive as there was no price sheet. Which makes that fact worse that they were installed in the vile automated racks that charge you if you touch them. The refrigerator was similarly bugged and was so full there was no room for personal items- but they would send you another small fridge for your personal use if asked. An espresso machine ( in lieu of a Keurig) is of no interest to us. While the bath was compact it featured a large walk in shower and a no fog mirror, multiple heaters and..... Excellent towels and toiletries- exceedingly rare items in our travels. Despite the size and little irritants we slept well and this was a better than average room. The daily room servicing was excellent. The cruise group had a buffet breakfast each day which I would rate good enough but not memorable. That was more than made up for by the service and food at Le Bar and Renoir restaurant- which were memorable. We enjoyed excellent professional service at both with food and drink being equally superior. This house gets high marks for its location, decor and cleanliness, professional service at every turn, and a fine lounge and restaurant. The facility quirks and the all too familiar unpleasant "luxury hotel" features did not reduce the rating in our mind.…
central location ,excellent rooms, comfy beds but very rude and not sophisticated hotel restaurant stuff.. This is third time I am staying in his hotel within the last 2 months. However, ı am shocked by the treatment of restaurant stuff , CAROLINA...She is not only very rude but does not deserve tho work in a 5 star hotel. Unless the service is improved ı strongly urge you to stay way from the restaurant
The Sofitel is an excellent property with an outstanding staff. I felt welcome and pampered during my stay. The concierge was especially helpful regarding several special requests, which made a big difference to me. The hotel is very well located, with easy access to the Métro and short walks to a number of museums and other sights. The breakfast was wonderful - cooked to order.
Good hotel, modern and clean. It is located in a very nice and dynamic area. The rooms are small especially those located in a corner that have a column structure in the room. After a long international trip we checked in at the hotel around 11 PM and at that time the Restaurant was already closed and there was not room service neither a vending machine. The front desk staff didnt offer us any option to get some food so we went to bed starving. We didnt expect this unfortunate situation.
Excellent experience, with very friendly and efficient staff; superb breakfast and very clean. The bathroom was, however, quite "dated" with some elements not functioning like it should be. Sleeping quality was very good.
Booked two connecting rooms last minute for my wife and family. Check in process was pretty easy, as was finding the room. Stylish hotel with helpful staff. Getting up to entrance while driving was unexpectedly difficult because it's not clear whether the driveway was for cars or not. Valets were very helpful and plugged our EV in for us every night. Rooms were clean and nice. Lights in the room were not easy to figure out how they worked. Wireless charge stations on the nightstands didn't work either. Overall great experience, I give it 4 stars.
The staff at this hotel, particularly Nancy in the Renoir restaurant, went over and above on a cold, wet night when we arrived late from the airport. The restaurant was closing and my wheelchair-bound sister was very hungry. I snuck into the closing restaurant and saw the hostess, explained my dilemma and she leaped into action. She went to the front desk, spoke with my sister and I wheeled her into the restaurant for a meal. I was totally blown away by the kindness and thoughtfulness of this woman. We were there for two days and every time I saw her she was ebullient, kind, and helpful to the point that we hated to leave the site. We ate in the restaurant every night and Marcus was one terrific waiter. The entire staff at this hotel was note-worthy so I will mention Sana at the front desk. Incredible experience. I would love to go back there someday.…
This was our first time in a Sofitel hotel. We didn’t arrive at the hotel until after midnight, so didn’t get much chance to sleep in the bed, but it was wonderful! We had a nice breakfast buffet the next morning before boarding the ship. Great selection of breads, bagels, etc, fresh fruits and the entrees were hot and replenished regularly. We would stay here again if we come back to Montreal.
My husband and I visited Montreal for a wedding. We stayed at Sofitel for 3 nights and had a great time. The hotel is centrally located so a short Uber ride most places and lots of food and shopping options walking distance. It’s also super close to McGill. We found the staff to be pleasant and professional. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Housekeeping came daily and freshened up for us. They provided us with water and built in phone chargers (for iPhone and Samsung phones). The bathrooms were a little small but definitely not a deal breaker as they were immaculate. Overall a good experience and would recommend.
