The nunnery is in the Old Montreal section of the city. There are several sidewalk markers and descriptions of the history and the building is magnificent. It was not open when we came by but even a visit to the grounds and the historical markers is worthwhile!

Plastic-lined, old hospital beds kept us sweaty and uncomfortable all night-we woke up sore each day. Someone went through our things in our room. Co-ed bathrooms with shower doors that didn't lock.Creepy history we didn't know about until we left. Google it and look up the hauntings. Ya.

Stayed for two nights here, right in the middle of town so close to the action. Good for looking around, bad for noise. Even a non-road facing room was subject to loud noise. Beware that there is no air-con and the bed might be very very firm. Minimalist room advertised with amenities but in fact had almost none - no... More

Stayed here for the last four days for the Just for Laughs festival. Check in was very smooth. The room was facing the chapel, that was nice. Nice sized room, windows open for fresh air, as there is no air conditioning. On the second day I did ask about a fan but they had run out so you may want... More

Tired of paying summer hotel rates in popular summer cities when all you want is a place to sleep? Grey Nuns Residence hit the spot. A spartan (in the good sense) clean spacious room with comfortable beds, sink, refrig, shining wood floors, desk, lamp, chairs, closets. Bathrooms/showers down the hall were very clean and the hot water was hot. Some... More

Safe, clean place. The parking lot gets locked at 11pm, there's guards, and you have to swipe in to get to the building so it's really safe and well situated right downtown near good restaurants, shopping, bars, and just a block from a metro station. Clean, but there's no AC, communal bathrooms, and the beds are VERY hard. Would highly... More

Nice Experience, Beautiful Residence, Free Wi-Fi. Make sure you have Netflix, Television is unavailable and the bed is small and hard, the pillow is very soft. No air conditioning, but the windows are beautiful and brings in a nice breeze 😉

Yes, these are budget accommodations. I have stayed here for a few nights to a week during the summer for the last 3-4 years. Room with private bath. It's never been spectacular, but the price it was not bad. But just seems to be going down - mouldy shower curtains, bathroom generally not clean, only give you one toilet paper... More

If you are the type of traveler who just wants to enjoy the city and a nights sleep, this is one of the best places I have stayed. Was the cheapest hotel I have stayed at in ten years. Was spotlessly clean, super helpful staff, 24-7 security, fantastic location with cheap parking and the fastest internet connection I have ever... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
