Nestled in an original Beaux-Arts building in the historic quarter of Old Montreal, the St Paul opened in 2001 as Canada’s first ever boutique hotel. The 119-room property, designed by Montreal-based design firm Borrallo Interiors offers a timeless blend of past and present, and an innovative design that maintains the integrity of the building’s original architecture. Bold juxtapositions of color and texture heighten the senses and transport guests on a visual journey throughout their stay. Masculine elements like straight cuts and strong lines collide with feminine expressions found in the fashion-inspired fabrics to create a soothing paradox Numéro de licence de la Corporation de l'industrie Touristique du Québec (CITQ) 160311

We arrived at hotel St. Paul in Old Montreal and were greeted by Lorianne at guest check in. She was gracious, professional and quick to ensure we were provided with everything we needed for our stay including dinner reservations. Our room was beautifully decorated with a So Ho feel, the bed was super comfy, shower pressure was strong and hot, warm bathrobe and Nespresso coffee Bar were all perfect. Will come back again.

We spent a long weekend in Montreal, our first trip to this lovely city, and picked Hotel St. Paul because of its location and it is part of the Marriott umbrella and it took our points. There weren't many people staying there because unbeknownst to us, it was one of the few weekends were nothing much at all was going on. For that reason, I think we got upgraded to a junior suite which was pretty cool since we were celebrating a milestone anniversary! We didn't dissuade room service and it was nice that our bed was nicely appointed after being gone all day, and the bathroom restocked. Really nothing to ding the hotel on other than I think they are suffering from staff shortages just like everywhere, so there was no concierge that we ever saw, but we are rather self sufficient so that was not a big deal. I was a little surprised that we were asked for a CA$400 "room deposit" which was a point of confusion at check in, which was run on our credit card, although only what we spent at the hotel was deducted from it. I'd would return here if I wanted to stay close to Old Montreal.

We had a fine stay here until our 2021 CR-V was stolen from the hotel parking lot across the street—in broad daylight. The theft was caught on the hotel security camera, but of course the vehicle has not been recovered. One employee said this was not the first time it had happened. Figuring out how to get home to Massachusetts was a bear, and while the hotel did accommodate the late checkout we asked for and tried unsuccessfully to help us find a rental car to get home, there was very little spontaneous empathy or customer service. They would not agree to a price adjustment other than to remove the parking fee from our bill. Stay here if you like, but don’t park here.

I recently stayed at St Paul. I found the hotel to be in a very Central Location a block from the Old City but on a street with some excellent restaurants. The Hotel is in a really nice old building with a nice stylish lobby. The room was very large with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with a large tub the room was super quiet. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful when we had questions. The hotel will park your car for you for a fee or you can park yourself at one of the public lots close to the hotel. The areas that I thought could use some improvement were. In the room, the refrigerator had drinks for sale but if you wanted free bottled water you had to ask the front desk. In a boutique hotel, I would expect slippers would be in the room and bottled water. Again you had to ask the front desk. The room had Shutters for shades but the shutters had holes that let light in so in the morning you had light early. I believe shutters our only for the top floor rooms. The toiletries were not what I would expect from a hotel of this standard so that was disappointing as well. Lastly, if the hotel reviews this review might I suggest putting a pic of Old Montreal in the room on the wall. In the end, I would recommend St Paul to travelers for a nice comfortable stay.

It’s hard to be fair after COVID when so many places are short-staffed but our room wasn’t turned over until after 5pm most days. Location is ideal, close to tourist areas but quiet. Room was nice but not exceptional in any way. I am now typing to meet TripAdvisors 200 character minimum…

Dear Patrick F, First and foremost, thank you for choosing the St. Paul Hotel in Montreal for your recent stay in our beautiful city, and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your experience. We are glad to read that you enjoyed our wonderful location in the heart of the Old Montreal. Furthermore, we are saddened to see that me have missed the ball at some point regarding the room cleaning. We are currently working hard on improving the low staff situation that is affecting the hospitality industry. The good news is that the situation is improving all the time so operational changes are required less frequently. We hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back next time your travel plans take you back to Montreal, as it would please us greatly to ensure that your experience reflects the true Hotel St. Paul Experience, in luxury with a dedicated 24-hour service. Kind Regards, Hortense Louis Front Office Manager

This hotel is the WORST. They claimed to be refunding money they were overcharging me and my partner the fee, they charged me 2X and my partner 1X of the refund fee and after five days they STILL won't resolve it and claim that they have processed this refund. Do not stay.

For $300 a night, parking not included, it's not a cheap hotel, however its service and facility is nowhere near to what it claims to be (4 star, hotwire). It is worse than most, if not all, 3-star hotels I have stayed such as Holiday Inn. I booked my stay via hotwire, which listed it with free breakfast, which was the main reason I picked it over others because my kid really like breakfast that are offered by hotels. Upon arrived, I was told breakfast was not included, and they wouldn't do anything about it. Called hotwire service, same answer. I don't care between hotwire and this hotel who made the mistake to have listed with breakfast (according to hotwire, the hotel forgot to update them to remove free breakfast that was once available), I paid a price I thought was only reasonable with breakfast. Otherwise I wouldn't have chosen it. Room is small, overlooking an ugly parking lot. Safe was not usable (no battery). Quilt made a lot noise like plastic. Elevator and other common spaces show signs of wear and tear here and there.

This is my go-to hotel when I visit Montreal. I have been staying here since 2006. Located in the old city, it allows you easy access to so many great restaurants and spots to stroll to. The hotel itself is beautifully designed but minimalist in style. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!

This is a lovely historic old building, in the heart of the old section of Montreal. I'd say it was about five to six walking blocks from the Notre Dame Cathedral (the biggest special site to visit in Old Montreal). Location is excellent and my wife and I love historic hotels in historic areas. We had a Junior Suite, and the room was much larger than most upscale hotels we've stayed in. This hotel is not upscale, but it has great potential with some renovation.

Dear Carl E, On behalf of the Staff at Hotel St. Paul, we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at our boutique hotel. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay from the location near many attractions and the large suite. Our maintenance staff is hard at work to update the hotel to better serve our guests, as well as the renovations currently being performed in restaurant located in the Lobby. We would greatly appreciate it if you would share directly with us, what you feel the upgrades need to be to help the staff offer the best service we can. We hope to be able to welcome you back on your next visit to Montreal and show you the changes that have been completed. Kind Regards, Jennifer

My family gathered at Hotel St-Paul for my sister's 60th Birthday Celebration and it was a total success. The hotel is beautiful, the service very attentive. We reserved 1 suite for all of us to gather for a pre-dinner cocktail. The Deluxe Suite was surprisingly very spacious and very well appointed. We loved our stay!
