Highly recommend this B&B. Only wonderful things to say about ht eBoulanger Bassin B&B and it's enlightened and informative owner/operator, Ken. What a delightful four days/ three nights. Our room with full bath was large, clean and comfortable. There was a small fridge and many books of the shelves to choose from to read as well as an abundance of... More

Having stayed here four nights, I am mystified by the number of glowing reviews submitted to TripAdvisor, because this place is really, truly disgusting. Before staying here, I wish I had read the critical reviews going back to 2009, because those reviews are accurate and honest. Many of the problems I experienced are the same problems that other travelers experienced... More

I am not a B&B person but the couple we were traveling with loves them. So in tagging along with them, my husband and I found ourselves here. We stayed in the Sunset Suite which was huge! It had a sitting room and bedroom. The bathroom was good sized with a tub. We also had our own refrigerator. The bed... More

The Boulanger Bassin experience is a reflection of its host, Ken: raw and delectable! This stay is not for people who like posh hotels, quaint inns or über attention to detail, outside of gastronomy. Think boho, urban, street-smart. We loved our stay!!. Ken waited for us to arrive (we let him know our arrival time) and even helped us carry... More

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our holiday in Canada. Ken was a fabulous host, full of helpful advice and very welcoming. We enjoyed the best breakfasts we have had during our trip- delicious food and Interesting conversation about many topics. Rooms are comfortable, clean and no frills. A great place. Ken's fruit cake is a... More

We have just spent an amazing weekend in Montreal and not only because we love the city, but also, because Ken, made our stay so perfect. He is so welcoming, makes you feel at home. He makes the most delicious and filling breakfasts we have ever had in b&Bs, and his home-made pastries are out of this world! He also... More

If your idea of a B&B is a quaint, cutesy, countryfied inn with a standard breakfast, then you'll be in for a surprise when you arrive at this very unique property in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood of Montreal. Innkeeper Ken is attentive, and his knowledge and enthusiasm made him a wonderful host on our first visit to French Canada. He's clear... More

We enjoyed our stay here, but I can understand why some visitors were so dismayed. If you like quirkiness and a friendly, personal touch and understand that this is more along the lines of a hippified rooming house or hostel with private rooms than a hotel, you will probably really like it. Ken is very welcoming and helpful, breakfasts are... More

My husband and I stayed with Ken for our honeymoon in 2003. We were young and wanted to be in a low-key place where we could spend our time exploring Montreal. We had a wonderful time staying with Ken. He provided us with maps, advice, and even made reservations for us. Our second trip to Boulanger Bassin was this last... More

We stayed at the Boulanger Bassin for five nights in May and are still talking about it. Ken helped us feel at home, advised us on the sights to see when it started raining, and made us delicious breakfasts every morning. We stayed in the sunshine loft, which was fun (love the trapdoor) and private. The Plateau location is lovely,... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
