Booked the hotel room with the fireplace. The room was absolutely gorgeous, spotless, very very beautiful. My boyfriend and I were very surprised and pleased with our stay. The only drawback is that parking isn’t free - they valet though! I’d 100% go back, we really had an awesome time there, the staff is super friendly. What I liked the most was the charm of this hotel. It doesn’t look sterile like most hotels do, it is beautifully decorated. Beautiful memories from Montreal! :)

We returned to the Chateau 39 years after first visiting Montreal on our honeymoon in 1980. We were happy to see it still there standing tall. The flight of stairs were a bit more challenging, however, and of course we were initially assigned the fourth floor -- a walk-up in a tall townhouse, a bit for 80 year olds..We had enjoyed a bay window in a large room overlooking the street on our honeymoon and had hid a bottle of champagne in the window sill. This was a small room this time, but with a queen size bed. Fortunately, there was someone to meet the cab and take our luggage. The French flavor was still resilient, and at our request we were reassigned the next evening of our four days to the main floor. Our memory of this quiet lovely honeymoon hotel had become somewhat clouded. Continental breakfast was pleasant and intimate as always, although there was a lot more activity than we remember. But the breakfast room with all of the hotel's antique and interesting features, was stunning. Sherbrooke Avenue was busy with antique shops and galleries, which we visited on a couple of rainy days after our first day's pilgrimage to Vieux Montreal. We spent a full day at Musee des Beaux Arts just two blocks from the hotel, and even saw a film at Cinema Musee. Fabulous exhibit on Thierry Mugler, the famous French courtier. Had wonderful meals at Molivo Restaurant and at Les Enfants Terribles. There was a bit of a glitch when we ordered dinner in on a rainy night, tired after walking a lot, from the collaborating restaurant across the street, and the price came in much higher than expected, $105 Canadian for two vegetarian sandwiches, a Greek salad, and a piece of chocolate cake. The menu in the room was out of date. And since our reservations were not made directly with the hotel, the supervisor could not do much to help us with our room rate or the restaurant charge. He did graciously offer us a bottle of wine and chocolates. We are romantics, and this hotel is a place to love.

Beware of outside steps! No one to help with luggage. Nearly fell trying to get case up steps. Fortunately another guest helped. Reception staff not particularly helpful or welcoming. I’m sure there are nice rooms at this hotel - unfortunately mine wasn’t one of them. Booked deluxe room. Was small, very dark and tiny bathroom. When queried why this classed as deluxe was told there was bathrobe (there wasn’t but one was later sent to room) and queen size bed. Afternoon tea in lounge but no coffee. No one could tell me why but they still wouldn’t provide any! Given 2 stars because of good location.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback on your stay. We apologize for not meeting your expectations. Our room types vary in size and location, as we are a historical property. For our afternoon tea service, we only offer tea and biscuits, although all guestrooms have a coffee machine with an array of coffee. Please let me know if you decide to come back to the city, I will ensure you are upgraded to a larger room. Sincerely, Nina Toia Assistant General Manager ntoia@versailleshotels.com

This is a very difficult hotel to rate. I am giving it an over all rating of 3 stars. They gave us a spacious room with two queen size beds after we complained about our firstt room which was tiny. The room was clean but the furnishings were old and tired. We broke through Expedia and we were never told that the hotel did not have an elevator. We are older with back and knee issues and linking stairs was very difficult. The bathroom was clean and updated. However the shower faucet did not work properly and the water was either freezing cold or boiling hot. There were ants in the room. Location was perfect and the staff was great. They served a nice continental breakfast in the dining room without charge. We will not stay here again mainly because there is no elevator.
