We love staying in Vieux-Montreal and this hotel is in an excellent location, close to the Vieux-Port (wonderful waterfront park/promenade) and about a 10 minute walk to Place Jacques-Cartier (cafes and street performers). The room was large and beautifully decorated but the highlight was the delicious gourmet breakfast (included in the room rate) served in their charming restaurant.

We stayed three nights at this wonderful small hotel which is located in the center of the old city. Our room on the fifth floor room was very quiet. The hotel is very well maintained. The staff were very friendly and gave us all the information we needed for our stay. The room came with a full breakfast served in... More

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel and it was a very pleasant stay. Breakfast was included in the rate and was very good. So good I gladly skipped lunch! The room and bathroom were spacious and nicely furnished. The mattress was a bit soft for my back, but I always prefer a hard mattress. Staff was very helpful in... More

What a super place—a French style auberge in the heart of old Montreal yet near the underground city. Tasteful in a subtle and understated way. The food was both delicate and beautifully presented to the best French standards; the cocktails divine! All in all this was such a pleasant and relaxing haven from the city that we, too, were reluctant... More

The hotel is very cozy with lovely rooms. We stayed in a deluxe room that was nicely sized with a king size bed and a comfortable bathroom with a large jetted tub/shower. The room was super quiet. Could not hear a thing outside. Wood floors, which makes a lot of sense. The hotel is very well maintained and kept in... More

My daughter and I stayed at the Auberge Bonaparte the weekend of Feb 20 - 23, 2014. I found this jewel by chance. I had actually booked a different hotel but my daughter and I arrived in the middle of the night to discover that the doors were closed and there we stood, 2:00 am in the morning with nowhere... This is the second time I have stayed at the Auberge Bonaparte. The first visit was 9 years ago so I was very curious to see how the place had changed because my first visit was so enjoyable. I am happy to report that the second visit was even better than the first. The rooms are very clean and comfortable... More

I assure and guarantee that this is the best hotel in Montreal. This is a boutique hotel located in Old Montreal. The parking was paid one and it is available nearby. The service was excellent and the rooms we stayed were excellent and neatly maintained. The food was cooked to perfection and the hotel had a restaurant attached. Only disadvantage... More

The hotel is right in the middle of the old town, quite difficult to negotiate with a car as there were road works all around. The hotel receptionist was very helpful in directing us. The room we had was on the top floor with an enormous balcony where we have a wonderful view of Montreal. Very clean and comfortable room.... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
