Bonaparte is a very nice hotel in a great location close to everything in the historic area of Montreal. They will be very glad, I'm sure, when the street construction is done because access to the hotel is currently somewhat difficult. However, parking (at a cost) is very close by so very convenient. Bonaparte includes a wonderful breakfast in their... More

Great customer service & attention to detail. The room was lovely and a nice size, especially the jacuzzi tub! Also a first-rate breakfast with the most delicious coffee! We also enjoyed mouthwatering desserts of grand marnier souffle in the on-site restaurant. One thing though: It would've been nice had someone mentioned the fact that there is road construction outside the... More

We came for a two night stay. Street is a complete construction site (read steel planks, chainlink fence, back hoes filling the street) and access to hotel is on foot through construction site and mud. Staff at front desk is great and made up for inconvenience. Room was nice, with a view of the back of the cathedral. But no... More

Location of the Hotel is prime for touring Old Montreal. The streets were under construction and it seems will be for some time to come. The Hotel itself was a warm and inviting and the staff very attentive to your every need. The room was well appointed and although we faced the street was quiet. We did not eat at... More

Went to Montreal for a short trip to celebrate my wife's birthday. Chose the Auberege Bonaparte because of other reviews and its location. The hotel and staff didn't disappoint. Yes they are redoing many of the old cobblestone streets for the upcoming three hundred year anniversary but still easy to navigate by foot. A little confusing on first attempt to... More

This unique boutique hotel is in an excellent location in Montreal - close to lots of eateries and action. While the city is currently rebuilding the road directly in front of the hotel/restaurant, and it is a major disruption, the staff went out of their way to help, from parking to adjusting our stay to add an evening. Dania made... More

The Bonaparte was one of our very favorite hotels when we visited Montreal several years ago. It still is nice, but unfortunately suffered, at the time of our visit, from the digging up of the entire street in front of the hotel in connection with the City's rebuilding for its 375th anniversary. We had reserved one of the large premier... More

The Auberge itself was very clean with a comfortable bed. Good sized room and large bathroom w/large walk-in shower. Uncomfortable that there was only a thin lace curtain on huge windows next to toilet and across from shower and the room next to us had a slightly raised deck and if someone looked over and slightly down see right in.... It was difficult to get into this hotel at night due to the road construction (the entire street in front of the hotel is closed for repairs) but the staff went WELL out of their way to help us find it, get unloaded and parked. The room was absolutely gorgeous, the staff was super friendly, and the included breakfast was... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
