We spent three nights at this beautiful home. Fitzroy Hall is conveniently located within walking distance of most of Charlottetown’s restaurants, shops and attractions. The building dates to the late 1800’s but is well maintained and very clean. We were in the lone first floor bedroom which also gave us access to an attached private sun porch. Helen was an excellent hostess and the breakfasts were made to order and very good. This is a great choice for your Charlottetown stay!
We enjoyed our stay here. Helen was a gracious hostess, delicious hot breakfast with juice, coffee, and fresh fruit in the morning. Room was clean with charming decor. Only negative was that we were right on a bus route, so we had to close the window and use the AC to cover the traffic noise. The house is 1870s vintage, with antique furniture and charming decor throughout. Easy walking distance to the waterfront, so no worries about waterfront walking. Highly recommended.
This bed and breakfast is highly maintained with top quality furnishings and every room is filled with antiques. Every room is beautiful but we had the privilege of staying in the McGlinchey’s Landing Suites which was perfect as we were travelling with two of our daughters. The hostess and owner Helen is both welcoming and knowledgeable about the home and area and breakfasts were delicious!
My wife and I planned a visit to the beautiful province of Prince Edward Island (PEI). Our initial stop was Charlottetown. Having visited almost every province in Canada, PEI was our last. And, as they say, we saved the best for last. And what a great decision that was! We thoroughly researched PEI prior to our adventurous departure. With so many places to stay, we chose a heritage B&B, Fitzroy Hall (a must-place to stay when in Charlottetown). May we also stress on the need to make reservations much in advance. Fitzroy Hall is a very popular B&B. It is very busy during the peak seasons. Please do not expect to just walk in. We’re sure, as the owners feel the same, that they would not want you to be disappointed. As with all our reviews, we rate Hotels/Inns/B&Bs and any other accommodation in an “out of ten” grading system. We do not rate any establishment unfairly: If anything is found amiss, we try to have it resolved with the management at that time. And, 99% of the time, it’s resolved to our satisfaction. The other 1% is held back in case the issue was not fully resolved and there is still a need to further call/telephone for an explanation. Again, in fairness to these establishments and their respected management, it will not be reflected in this review. So, here we go B&B Location/Surroundings: Customer Service: 10/10 – This is a B&B. There is no front desk to contend with. The front entrance is locked for security purposes. After ringing the doorbell, we were cordially greeted with a friendly smile by owner Helen Doucette (husband Reg). After a quick review of the entry and the beautiful home, we were taken to our room, The Georgina Coles Brown. Each room in this stately home is named, not numbered. Small tidbit: Georgina Cole was the daughter of the honourable George Cole, one of the Confederation founding Fathers. She married Alexander Brown - hence her name. You’ll find such an history in all the rooms. Room and Amenities Explanation: 9/10 – The décor in our room is “delightfully” grand. Elegant and soothing, paintings and pictures are placed strategically on the walls to give you a calming and relaxing effect. The floors are not covered in carpeting, but have period pine planking. There is a window mounted air conditioner which, by the way came in handy during our visit. There is a bathroom in the room and it is well equipped – both shower and bathtub. Towels fully stocked. There are common balconies where you can relax with your wine. They have a coffee maker and kettle for tea in the common kitchenette. There are plenty of amenities. Room Condition: 10/10 – We found everything clean and ready to welcome us. Although a bit dark, there is a window that allows in sunlight. Again, because of the crazy hot summer weather, it was wise to keep the blinds down. The rooms are made and kept by their wonderful staff. We were pleased to provide them with a much deserved gratuity! Breakfast: 10/10 – We found the breakfasts provided more than enough to carry you through the morning and into lunch. A healthy breakfast portion served. They cater to most allergies. Giving them a heads-up is beneficial. My wife is gluten intolerant so they catered expertly. Breakfast is served in a lovely grand dining room. It is shared with many wonderful travelers from every part of Canada and the world that are staying there. Surroundings: 10/10 – Main street Charlottetown is within walking distance from Fitzroy Hall. We were able to walk practically everywhere from the B&B. Restaurants, shops, waterfront, local museums, etc. It is very vibrant and exciting. Live music seems to emanate from every corner of the city. And, again, the best part is that you’re steps away from Fitzroy. Bottom line: Fitzroy Hall is definitely in our must-do-again list. We truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely look forward to returning. We hope you will go and allow the hosts, Helen and Reg to give you the same experience we received. You will not be disappointed. Cheers…
We were very satisfied with our room and the service at this bed and breakfast. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was made to order and was quite tasty. We spent three nights and traveled to different places on PEI. There are many restaurants within a few blocks.
