We had the pleasure of staying at Fitzroy Hall while on vacation in August and we were very pleased. Very clean, excellent breakfast, wonderful kind staff and Helen went out of her way to ensure all our needs were met from towels to internet or directions, anything needed she and her staff found a way to help out. I would recommend Fitzroy Hall to everyone.

I really appreciate the experience at the beautiful Victorian style B&B.
Decoration is really beautiful everywhere and common area was very beautiful and relaxing.
Helen is making a great effort to maintain the historic Victroian-era feel of the home.
We stayed at 2nd floor, a room with sitting area.
We initially booked for two nights but extended four more nights because we fell in love in this beautiful B&B.
I also appriciate Erin from Tourist Information who recomend this B&B.
Thank you very much, Helen.

We just spent five nights at Fitzroy and it was wonderful. I've never been inclined toward B & Bs but this wasn't a typical B & B - very private, had our own key to front door and room to come and go whenever we wanted. We stayed in the Alexander room on the first floor, complete with sunroom and private veranda. Helen and her staff are fantastic, always friendly and eager to please. The breakfasts that are included in the price are delicious! Highly recommend this beautiful inn!

After I booked my 6-night stay and received conformation, the owner called to tell me that the published rate was a mistake and refused to honor my rate, even as a gesture of good will. The next day she changed that room’s rate to $90 more per night and put it back up as available, despite my confirmation of the booking. After that, I knew I did not want to stay at Fitzroy Hall!

The owner rent me the with out window, the tv was not working, there was light on top the head bed but was burned out, the shower phone was not holding in places and the cabinets was full of things to be sold, in fact under the tray of glasses was to signs of (garage sale) the owner was telling me that this the room I chose.
At my reservation was not possible to see if was window or not. The owner should know a room with out is jail cell.

From the time we checked in until we left we were made to feel very welcome. Helen, the owner, met us at the door and told us she had upgraded our room to one on the main floor. Awesome room with its own sunroom for relaxing or reading. Her breakfasts were great with a chance to pick what you wanted. We were the only guests for the 3 nights we were there so we got lots of attention! We loved the whole feel of the house and I should mention that this was our 1st B&B experience but it won't be our last. We have already told Helen to expect us again next year.

We were very disappointed with our fall getaway vacation at this B and B. We were vacationing in the maritimes from california. This B and B lies in a great area of downtown and the building itself is very historic. However, the building needs some major work done and that includes the rooms which seemed old, tattered and worn and almost dirty. Quite a shock when this B and B is considered to be 3-4 stars and charges 4 star prices. The family that runs the place seemed indifferent and unfriendly - we almost felt like we were imposing by staying there. On one cold night, we called down to ask for firewood - the reply was that no we could not have firewood and build a fire because they dont usu have fires until nov/dec - finally though, we were told that if they do go out that night they will try to pick up some wood(which they did but they made it seem to be such an imposition!). The complimentary breakfast was almost unedible and it seemed that other guests agreed, looking at their 1/4-1/2 eaten plates of food . Finally, when we tried to check out in the morning, we could not find anyone in the building for avery long time but then finally a young child appeared who tracked down the bill and that was that - no thank you, no good bye, nothing ....All and all, we were very disappointed in this place and would not stay there again - there are many other B and Bs in town that one can choose from that are less expensive but provide better value....this B and B needs to renovate their rooms and renovate their personalities......

When we first walked into the "Fitzroy Hall" I thought it was a very nice charming old historic house. It had lots of nice antique furniture and all kinds of interesting pictures and collectibles. It is nicely located near downtown, close to all the amenities and historic sights etc. Unfortunately this nice ambiance and sense of tranquility was shattered by the rude unwelcoming unfriendly attitude of the owner. The only time she spoke to us was when we checked in and she showed us to our room providing keys etc. very brief unwelcoming meeting! When we encountered her one evening in the dining room and said hello how are you she just lowered her head and grunted as she left the room. We were there for three nights and she ignored us the whole time. We did notice that she didn't have any problem talking to some of the other guests but not us, this is no way to treat your guests very unprofessional and childish. The room we stayed in was on the main floor it was called "Alexander Brown". Although the room was not as nicely decorated as some of the other rooms and could use a makeover it was a nice size had a very nice... like new bathroom as well as a sun porch off the room, which was nice. However... the bed was terrible it was like sleeping on a boxspring uncomfortable and hard my back was killing me for days after we left, the pillows weren't much better flat!!! I cannot believe this B&B is rated as a four and a half star what is Canada select thinking? From what I've researched with regard to how ratings are determined a four and a half star rating is supposed to be superior including the mattresses this B&B was in no way superior! I am very disappointed with Canada select as I have always valued there rating system not anymore. I think maybe they should rate the rooms individually. The breakfast was nothing outstanding but good there was some variety. The cancellation policy is bad, I realize these are smaller self owned places that rely on their patrons fulfilling their commitment, but that is the price of having a business like this. I do think there should be some kind of free cancellation in place for situations like the one I just described. It seems to me that only the owners have protection not the consumer! Just for the record this is the only time I have ever written an unsavoury review.

Response from Helen D, Owner at Fitzroy Hall
Responded Mar 22, 2016
First, I would like to thank you for your compliments on Fitzroy Hall's overall decor and location in the hest of Downtown Charlottetown. I strive for an authentic experience for each guest as they visit my home and take pride in the history of our Bed & Brekafast, to know this reflected well in my choice of décor is always pleasant. I do recall us having an extensive conversation prior to your visit regarding the room, upcoming weather and cancellation policy in detail. I did explain at the time that only our "Alexander Brown" suite was available for your required dates and so this would give you an opportunity to preview the room via our many photos online. Upon your arrival, I did try to be welcoming and friendly, offering guidance and maps for Charlottetown. You seemed to already know your way around, however and so there was very little I could offer to you. At that time I do remember that the weather was quite bad and possibly this is what made the overall experience feel dampened. When we met that evening in the dining room, it was an unfortunate coincidence that as I went to turn the light on, I didn't realize you had been standing in the darkened room. I, admittedly was startled by seeing you there and so my response was delayed. At the time I do recall apologizing for how busy I was during that moment, as I was making preparations for the next morning's breakfast. I would like you to know that I do take all my guests concerns to heart and have since added memory foam to the bed in the Alexander Brown room. I had never had a complaint before about the bed, but do understand that it's firm and when guests specify about their backs gladly recommend another room. At the end of your visit, when asked if you had any complaints, you didn't inform me of this. I would have liked the opportunity to address it either you at the time, in person. Please know that Canada Select does maintain very high standards and by complying to these, we maintain our Four and a Half Star rating according to their good judgement.

My husband and I stayed for a week at Fitzroy Hall for our honeymoon and came back for another week 5 years later. This is the best B&B we've EVER stayed in. The honeymoon suite was amazing with a private balcony & jacuzzi. We felt so at home there and loved hanging out in the room in the evenings. The breakfast was terrific also.

My husband, baby daughter and I stayed here for one night during our PEI vacation.

The hall is full of old world charm unique antiques and island style.

The inn keeper Helen is warm and welcoming.

We stayed in the very top, spacious room and bathroom, shared kitchenette area. The room felt stuffy upon arrival many stairs to climb, the room had a ceiling fan and a/c it cooled down quickly and our stay was quiet and comfortable.

Helen supplied us with a pack and play.

The cooked breakfast was lovely we all sat together at a large dinning table. Breakfast was served to us with great coffee, we were able to engage in conversation with the other travelers.
