My husband and I spent 4 nights at this beautiful Victorian B and B,in the Library Room.It is furnished with gorgeous antigues, and is spotless..Viola and family were so attentive. We felt very safe ,as all Covid protocols were followed .The breakfasts were delicious, beautifully presented and served daily by Rafel-a wonderful young man who we enjoyed chatting with each morning.Rafel, your parents must be so very proud of you,as you are a true asset to the family business.Viola went out of her way to make sure she was there to greet us on our late checkin on day one,and also arranged for early breakfast for us on checkout day.And when we had a bit of a glitch for charging our EV,once again Viola helped us out. This was by far far one of our favorite B and Bs and we would highly recommend it.

My sister and I spent 2 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the Victorian charm of this grand old house situated on a very quiet drive. It is a reasonable walking distance to downtown and all the attractions and is situated in a lovely neighborhood of private homes. Viola and her family were VERY attentive and extremely helpful. This was my first experience with a B&B and although some might be newer or more updated, I appreciated the charm of this establishment. Breakfast was wholesome and well made and served on lovely dishes. You are surrounded by antiques.

Overpriced property. Rooms smelled musty, moldy and were dusty. A/C didn't work properly, A/c only small window unit. Supposed to have continental breakfast but nobody showed up to prepare breakfast. Other guests were similarly upset at property. No fridge in rooms. Complimentary drinks were locked in kitchen, but no access to them. We cancelled 2nd night as did another guest. Even tried to call management but no answer.

first of all the day when you checked in which is really hot on the island, we even offer you to upgrade to a suite under the same rate you booked, we explained as the room only have window air condition so it may not make room cool enough especially under such high temperature, also due to the room is on the top of the building, it will make you feel hot in the night, but your party reviewed the room we offered then still decide to go to your original choice. we reminder you it may felt hot at the night due to the previous reasons but you mentioned you are not worried about hot. our property was inspected by government before we opened, if room is bad or mood or dusty as you said we were not allowed to open. also when you entering the room for check in, you never mentioned the room has strange smell, if so why you will stay there for one night. we had guests stayed in that room just one day before you checked in, they loved the room so it may not your style room. there is a fridge in the room you stayed, and you even take the tray we put on top of it in the room, i don't know why you will say there is no fridge, all the facilities we stated on website is kept same. Second you booked through Expedia and choose the "exclude Breakfast" rate, there is no continental breakfast in our property, all the guest choose the breakfast included rate will have fully serviced hot breakfast in our dining room. please make sure you read it clearly for the rate description before you make the reservation to the other property in the future.

This is a lovely old home that's been nicely updated with new bathrooms, usb connections in the bedrooms, etc. Breakfast is good and the house has an old world charm to it. The house is set back from the road on a shared driveway, so a little confusing to find at first. The property has nice trees and there's a place to sit outside. Our room also had a little sitting area, which was great for reading or watching tv (thought we were out exploring and didn't use it for that.) Charlottetown is lovely - small, but nice little shops and beautiful old homes to walk around and look at, etc. Overall, we loved this B&B and Charlottetown.

The reviews are consistently, amazing but that was not our experience. There was one or two other reviews that mirror our experience. The people are very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you, but I felt that the owner/manager was not as reasonable. The location, grounds, and the room were very disappointing. As you make your way to the Inn, you drive along a road that reminds you of Middle America, crowded with standard commerical businesses. This made our first of PEI very discouraging. We asked ourselves why we had driven this far to end up in our own backyard. You turn into the driveway which is adequate for parking but poorly lite. The property is one of three-four other homes (which were modern) and crowded into this small "cul-de-sac". The Inn does not look to be well kept on the outside and the grounds/gardens around it were unkept and not very inviting. When you enter, you feel a bit claustrophobic, because the rooms are dark, small and cluttered. That was the same feeling I got when entering the room. I did not feel it was clean and definitely did not feel comfortable in the bed. The sheets felt thin and worn out. There was an AC, but only one small window and some necessities. The breakfast was Ok. We found these accommodations to be so disappointing that we forfeited two days and found a better place. We would not return and not recommend this place.

Response from peiinnkeepers, Manager at Elmwood Heritage Inn

This lady booked our Nurse's room for 4 nights, they left on the second day for the " side trip" they called for 2 days and come back for the last night staying. When she just arrived in our place she told our staff PEI is suburb, even downtown Charlottetown is like a poor, undeveloped place. based on that we think you choose the wrong destination, you are more suitable for modern city, not PEI is beautiful charming places with lot of nature places to see. We are heritage place built in 1865, no client complain about the bed especially for Nurse's room as we just changed our mattress last year, different people has different feel about the bed, that is your personal feeling. Our housekeeping staff is very good at cleaning, our house style maybe old, but it is definitely clean. from your comments you may more suitable for staying at your home instead travelling outside. According to the breakfast, you email us for your special food requirement, we prepare it for you in advance and satisfy your all requirement, only one thing is we can not find the same brand of milk you mentioned as Canada didn't carry it. Maybe this didn't make you happy. we are proud of our breakfast as 99% of the guest are really enjoy the breakfast here, even some guest have special request like gluten free, diary free, we all made the different food for them. PEI has lot of tourism came every year and enjoy the beach, food here. you are the fewer person we met don't like this beautiful island.

I always perform due diligence when planning accommodations, and knowing nothing about Prince Edward Island, I was extremely thorough in my search. In this case, it really paid off. We stayed in the Cook's Room at the Elmwood Heritage Inn, among the nicest B&B experiences my wife and I have had. Even though there were several other guests, we hardly ever saw them, and we were there four nights. It could not have been quieter, and the A/C was entirely reliable. If I could have removed the Cook's Room and taken it back with me to California, I would have done so. The shower was a tremendous treat, and the bed was large and firm. If you are going to PEI, you will want to stay in Charlottetown. It is a great base for day trips, and the community itself is highly interesting with great restaurants. Be sure to take in all of the historical buildings.

Very nice, beautiful, clean accommodation. Room are a bit over packed with furniture but everything is very clean. Large bathroom and tub. Really nice and friendly service with lots of information about where to eat and where to go. I would not count on the breakfast :-) very simple and not exciting at all but the service is so nice that you will have a good time at the table anyway

I have not tried any other B&B on PEI, but my wife and I agree, we want to stay here again! Getting to the inn in the dark is a bit tricky. As you pull into the gate off River Road, bear right past several modern houses until you come to the towering, three story Victorian house so far back in the lot that Waze takes you to the street behind! This keeps the place very quiet. Rooms require carrying luggage up two or three flights of stairs, but the hosts provide detailed instructions and a pathway of signs to follow for late arrivals. The room we had was comfortable and charming. A window air conditioner provided a pleasant temperature to sleep. Breakfasts were spectacular. We asked for vegetarian food and it was done perfectly. I suspect they do an equally great job for other dietary requests. I needed to do some laundry and the hosts took care of it for me at no extra charge. How nice was that! You should stay here!

I struggled a bit on this review. There are certainly aspects to the Elmwood I liked. The staff is great. They tried to be very helpful. The breakfast was really good. I enjoyed it each morning. The overall structure of this as a historic Victorian home was great too. Price was good, location in Charlottetown is great. So why did I give it only 3. My primary issue was the bed and bedding. The bed was non-supportive. It reminded me of the Chevy Chase scene in European vacation when he lays in the bed and it essentially wraps around his body. It was not that bad but it was just not comfortable and I did not sleep well. The sheets were not particularly crisp and were a dusty. The arrangement of the room was odd too - could not really effectively watch the TV. So ultimately it really came down to the bed, dustiness, and a room organization that made it difficult to enjoy. These are not fatal by any stretch but it needs help in these areas. So as my title indicates - a mixed review.

We enjoyed our stay at the Elmwood Heritage Inn, at this large, Victorian style house set in a quiet, suburban neighborhood up a small private driveway. We booked this reservation through Expedia and our rate was $164 (American) including the mandatory 15 % ("Harmonized sales) tax. We stayed in the "Nurse's Room" which was very quaint and pleasant, though it was up on the 3rd floor, so it involved 2 flights of stairs, which could be a consideration for anyone with mobility/health issues. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, and the air conditioner worked well and was not too noisy. The windows opened for fresh air, which was a nice option to have. The breakfast was very good the two mornings we were there, and was cooked individually for us. We were asked ahead of time, at which half hour time slot we would be coming down to eat, starting at 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, etc. which was a great idea, instead of everyone having to eat at the same time. We met a few other couples and had some pleasant conversations. We were told generally what would be served, though one morning we smelled green peppers from the kitchen next door, and asked not to have them included since we don't like them, and they obliged. When we arrived we were greeted by a young woman who showed us around, and in the morning there were other young women who served us breakfast, and arranged for our payment at check out time. It would have been nice to meet the owners of the bed n breakfast, but perhaps they were away. One thing to note is that this bed n breakfast is about at least a 15-20 minute walk to downtown Charlottetown, so people should plan accordingly for going out for meals or activities in the very active downtown area. You can drive there in about 5 minutes which we did a few times. Charlottetown has plenty of parking spots, though plan to have some Canadian coins, since the meters do not accept credit cards for payment. There was some type of app for paying, but we found it too complicated, and you had to commit to creating a membership, which would be okay if you live in Canada. Since we did not have any Canadian coins, the other option we used twice was to park on certain streets close to the main street, where they had two hour parking for free. Charlottetown is a quaint, manageable city, with a wonderful variety of restaurants, stores for shopping, and a theater/art museum cultural center. If you are going to PEI, consider this bed n breakfast a great choice for a place to stay.
