Unique hotel. For people who dont like the standard modern chain hotel this is a good option. Nice atmosphere over all. Rooms can be noisy but they supply ear plugs. Location is very good. Iron and TV in the rooms.

HOTEL’S FAVORITE REVIEW
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2016 via mobile

This hotel is not just a place to lay your head, it's a unique experience on it's own to add to any trip. My best friend and I were having a nostalgic getaway by seeing Duran Duran in concert at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, which is easy to get to from here on one bus with a bit of walking.... Stayed at the Gladstone Hotel, booked it through Expedia and paid over $350 since TIFF was in town. Having read the reviews I was wise to ask for a room at the back of the hotel and was assured when I was handed my keys that we were. Nope, front room right on Queen Street. The room was so small... Overall we enjoyed our one night stay in this Historic Hotel in downtown Toronto. As previous reviewers have noted , it combines the historic aspects of its past with worn wooden floors and stairs and a 1907 elevator that is operated by a staff member along with individually and uniquely decorated rooms. The room we had allocated was quite small... More

I love creaky, old railroad hotels...particularly when they are clean, have modern touches and friendly staff. I first stayed at the Gladstone eight years ago for a small conference and have long wanted to return. I did for a short vacation and still love this gem. The 34 rooms are each decorated by a local artist, and the results are... More

Not to be confused with a 5-star hotel, but the character and service more than overcome any other deficiencies you might find. Good food and drinks at the restaurants too. Cool but small rooms with nice bath amenities. I would recommend if, like me, you are looking for something different than the usual hotel chain brands.

Wonderful boho joint with good mattresses. Each room individually decorated, elevator operator, and tram stop right outside. very much enjoyed our visit, although we were. Only there overnight, it was wonderful.

The Gladstone was recommended by my co-worker who lives in Toronto. The entire hotel is an old building renovated and designed by artists. Every room is different - from layout to design/decor. Beware of the old elevator - you might want to take the stairs if you're claustrophobic or fear elevators...it's still the old one with the gate to pull... More

Trendy and Bohemian feel. Really easy to get into town as the Tram is outside the door also lots of eateries nearby. Room was small (307) but perfectly fine for one night. Decor is quirky and staff very friendly. It's not the quietest of places but then you are on a main road and there's the throb of air-conditioning, but... More

The Gladstone is unique - historic, art-filled, contemporary. The staff is friendly and first-rate. The location is excellent. Each room is individually designed by an artist. We were very, very pleased to have selected The Gladstone.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
