I found the check in took too long, but after that it was mostly smooth sailing. The room was quite large, with technology making everything more simple and fun. Unfortunately, the TV in the bathroom mirror didn't work, but everything else did. The pool and the cabanas make you feel like you're in an indoor resort.

Perhaps the fact that I had not researched the Shangri-la Hotel before checking in set me up to be surprised. However this surprise was clearly to the upside. The check-in process was brief and very professional. The one bedroom suite was in impeccable condition in dark wood veneer. From the professional Nesspresso machine to the electric push button drapes and... More

Dont get me wrong this is a great hotel, just in many ways doesnt live up to the same standards as other 5 star hotels I have stayed at. We stayed in the Architect Suite which is basically a deluxe one bedroom suite with some additional decor. The room was nice, but had some signs of wear (Carpet was stained,... More

Stayed for two nights. Stay was excellent from start to finish. Would highly recommend this hotel, their service and staff. Had a spa treatment, which was excellent, if a little pricy. Position of hotel was good for shopping, CNN Tower and tourist activities. Restaurant food was good and entertainment in the bar at night, although not sure if this is... More

Great one night stay. Very nice hotel and not much to complain about. Little things like the bed should be replaced pillows way too soft, been there a while and not much support. Huge pillar takes up a lot of room in the room. Great Spa but not cheap, pool is great. We were on the 6th floor facing University... More

Great hotel and service. Family friendly and entertainment in the lobby every evening. Although, they had construction going on our last day which was disappointing. I wish we would have been informed of this when we checked in. This would have allowed us to make other arrangements for that evening. The pool was a perfect down time in the day... More

This certainly isn't a Peninsula. I thought we were going to have quite an experience with Shangri La but we were disappointed. The quality and cleanliness was not top notch. The welcome and reception was ok but it missed having a special touch. The pool is quite nice at night especially and the jacuzzi is extra large. The views from... More

We arrived late at the Toronto airport, however we had arranged transportation with the hotel which went very smoothly. The Check-in staff was prepared for us at the hotel and we were quickly in our room. We ordered room service at 12:30AM which was promptly delivered with a table and professionally served. The staff is the hotel wa professional and... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
