The dorm was fine. There are lockers by the beds. The bathroom was quite small comparing to other HI hostels, but clean. Location is great, walking distance from CN tower. Also nearby there are super markets with good prices and some fast food restaurants. What was really cool, with membership of the hostel there was a discount on Niagara Falls bus... More

my wife and I booked a private room for a few nights as it was by far the cheapest way to stay downtown (hotels were mostly outside of our budget) i'd describe it as a decent hostel, anyone familiar and comfortable with hostels will be happy here but it certainly isn't hotel standard! The rooms were comfortable and clean, the... More

This hostel is cheap and excellently located. There's things happening every night too so it's easy to meet new people over a beer. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and staff kind and friendly. If anything the rooms are a bit small and the lockers not large enough for any sized bag but it's still fine and well worth it. If... More

Good welcoming from the staff who's friendly, the bedroom was correct, we had the advantage to have a bathroom. The youth hostel is nice but in my opinion it is a shame to ask for 7 canadian dollars to go into the pub because a music band is playing, we should have the choice to drink a glass without listening... This place is very ideal for solo travelers. It provides you a very good space to be both by yourself and meet fellow travelers from different parts of the world. Accommodation comes with free breakfast and they have always good activities for you to choose from in a day! The location is also very good. It's in the city center... More

Stayed in an 8 bed dorm, very clean and modern. Lift up to your room which is great when carrying bags. But the best part was the breakfast, bacon, eggs the whole deal. Delicious. Only downside was you can hear the bar from the rooms when they have live bands, but it is a youth hostel after all. Cant complain,... More

I stayed at this hostel for 4 nights and it was better than I expected. Free breakfast and 1/2 price meal on your first night. The staff were kind and helpful. Good atmosphere to meet other travellers. Room was clean and quiet. Loved it here, would recommend.

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm with an ensuite which was convenient, there were also communal showers and toilets on 2 other levels of the building. The patio is great if the weather is nice. The location of the hostel is fantastic, and in walking distance to most of the attractions eg. CN Tower, Distillery District, Downtown, Union Station... More

Stayed at HI Toronto for 3 nights, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was right in the middle of the Toronto CBD which made it very easy to walk everywhere (Air Canada Centre etc.). The rooms were very comfortable and included a safe. The hostels bathrooms were good and clean and the atmosphere of the whole place... More

We needed a room to stay in for the night in April 2016. We were put in a 6 bed dorm with a bathroom to ourselves. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We didn't get a chance to explore the hostel for everything it could offer us. They did say we get a discount on our dinner that night... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
