It was the first time for myself staying at a hostel and also travelling alone. I spent 4 nights at HI Hostel Toronto and it was a walking distant from all the main tourist spots that i saw. Amazing atmosphere with great breafkast downstairs. Friendly staff who were always ready to answer any queries you had. They had all the... More

Stayed only one night, the front of house staff friendly and relatively knowledgable. Explained the members card a little bit too much. They did give a solid recommendation on a place to eat for vegetarians. Place is clean enough in the rooms, the small bathroom I used was okay, could do with a big scrub up, has a bar/restaurant and... More

Hospitality is wonderful. I reached Toronto after a 12 hour flight from a country with 13 hour time difference and the staff immediately seemed to understand my situation (very tired). Within minutes, I was guided through membership application and all the information I needed for getting around Toronto, effortlessly, which impressed me very much. There is a supervisor at the... In the very heart of Toronto! Old building very well adaptated for a hostel. Clean bathrooms, good beds, nice breakfast, including vegan option! Friendly people ( employers and guests ). Good lockers. In there is a pub at the basement floor with nice band and cold beers. Don´t worry, you can sleep properly! The noise can´t reach the dormitory, rs.

Great, cheap place to stay in the heart of downtown. Very secure, had to swipe my key card three times before getting to the room. Met some awesome people from all over the place. Cheap breakfast and booze. What more do ya need?

This is a nice hostel. Mostly clean, comfortable bed, think walls. The definite downside is the price (50 dollars for one night is a lot to pay for a hostel). I also found it a little unpractical to have the sink and mirror in the room and not in the toilet. But mostly, it's a very nice place to stay... More

The dorm was fine. There are lockers by the beds. The bathroom was quite small comparing to other HI hostels, but clean. Location is great, walking distance from CN tower. Also nearby there are super markets with good prices and some fast food restaurants. What was really cool, with membership of the hostel there was a discount on Niagara Falls bus... More

my wife and I booked a private room for a few nights as it was by far the cheapest way to stay downtown (hotels were mostly outside of our budget) i'd describe it as a decent hostel, anyone familiar and comfortable with hostels will be happy here but it certainly isn't hotel standard! The rooms were comfortable and clean, the... More

This hostel is cheap and excellently located. There's things happening every night too so it's easy to meet new people over a beer. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and staff kind and friendly. If anything the rooms are a bit small and the lockers not large enough for any sized bag but it's still fine and well worth it. If... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
