We are just ending our two night stay here. We wanted something affordable in the centre of the city, and this was certainly that. But that's about it. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know we are NOT picky. Clean, decent amenities, and in decent condition, and we're happy campers. In fact, I often write off the... More

Sorry to hear you did not find your room to be spacious. Sounds like an upgraded Business room which is large and spacious would have suited you better. This building is old but comfortable and we just replaced all the carpeting in the spring. As for the wallpaper, we are doing some repairs in all rooms and this is a... More

The hotel is outdated I'm surprised they allow people to stay in there. It is run down in a posh neighbourhood.

I was disappointed with this hotel given the neighbourhood that it is in. The room was large but dark. When I sat on the bed it felt like a box spring. Cleanliness was subpar. There were sections of the floor that clearly had not been cleaned regularly. I passed on using the shower because of the mildew around the tub/shower.... More

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. You were staying in a large guest room which is our Business Rooms. Many times Room Attendants and/or Maintenance knock but the room is so large, it cannot be heard. My apologies. I will be sure to share your comments with them. We just purchased an industrial steam cleaner... More

From the first step into the elevator we were regretting our booking. For $220 a night we would not have expected this hotel to smell, have water damaged walls and mouldy showers! Was so disgusting! Never again! The front desk called our room at 1:30 am twice asking if we ordered pizza! There is condos right next to the hotel... More

Sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations and that Front Desk called you at 1:30am. This building is scheduled for a redevelopment in the future. As for the neighboring condo building, it is close proximity as you would find downtown in any major city. There is privacy film on the windows so nothing can be seen. More

I booked this location because of the distance to a work event. While the check in person was friendly, that's where it ends. I don't believe they have a cleaning crew, if they do they aren't doing their jobs. The entrance door to the hotel should be welcoming and clean - not so much - grimmy, dirt around the handles.... Staff was very friendly. But... Being in Yorkville... This hotel should be upgraded. Very upscale area in Toronto but you need to renovate. And the price you charged for one night was ridiculous for the shape the hotel is in!!!!

Thank you for your comments. The Howard Johnson Yorkville, although located in a fabulous upscale neighborhood of Toronto, we are an economy 2 star hotel. Sorry to hear you did not find it up to par, but our rates are very competitive to other hotels of our standard and also based on demand in the city. We did replace carpeting... More

We arrived close to 6pm and were told that one of the rooms wasn't ready and another you could see that it had been cleaned in a rush. The breakfast was clearly lacking (toast, a bit of cereal and a handful of muffins) and was located in a room down a corridor from the main lobby.

My sincere apologies. We were short staffed in Housekeeping that day and were doing our best but fell short. Continental Breakfast is complimentary and served from 7am to 9am. We serve cereal, muffins, toast, croissants, fruit salad, yogurt, juice, coffee and tea. We have an Attendant on duty to refill accordingly. More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
