I enjoyed my stay with senator hotel, it was a good room with 2 queen beds tower side of the hotel. I was travelling with 3 teenagers and they approved. Very clean and I would stay again and thanks Joanne at the front desk for the great service!

In 1975 I stayed in a hotel called the Sinton. I thought that place was bad until I stayed in the Senator. First when I was checking in I was made to feel I did something wrong because I booked a room last August at $115 when they are now $250. Then I was told I just had to take a few short stairs to my room. Yeah right. Turns out to be 4 full flights of stairs from the parking garage. If I wanted to take an elevator I take an elevator to the first floor. Then it’s only 3 full flights. Room was dated and below standard. Nothing about the stay was pleasant. Definitely would not recommend anyone to think about booking here.

We all know, and understand that hotels increase their rates during a week that has a major event; capitalism at its best. This place whet from $125 (regular rate) to $240/night during Mining week in Timmins. I can live with tired and dreary, which is the best way to describe the East Wing, however, no elevator service (and, as mentioned by several staff members, no plans to fix anytime soon) was only one of several problems. Very slow front desk staff, thermostat non-functional, shower water temperature fluctuates from ice cold to scalding hot (be prepared to jump out of the way). Mixed up reservations dates, etc. etc. The staff knows and understands the problems the hotel faces and are very sympathetic, polite and helpful. They are the reason why I gave a Poor rating instead of Terrible.

I'll start with the good...the hotel is in the middle of downtown and close to shopping and restaurants. It's a also very quiet, and I know for a fact that it's fully booked as is every other place around as the biggest draw trade show in Timmons is happening right now. I arrived with some large luggage (stuff for that same trade show). The desk clerk told me my room was in the East wing, so my best bet was to park the car in the garage, look for the glass door to the East wing to get to my room. It was a trudge, and the elevator does not work and according to staff there seem to be no plans to fix it, so up the stairs me and my stuff go. My only alternative would have been to walk through the front, which would have had me dragging that same gear through a posh even set up in the corridor on that side of the property. So, in my room. Bed...lumpy. Bathroom, tiny and cramped. Power outlets...none at the desk nor near the bed. I happened to have an extension cord in my bag so I had a way to get power where I needed it. The room layout is a bit strange. The bottom if the windows is at about the 6' level, so...a bit of light but no view. The sort of thing you expect in a cell not a hotel. The decor is drab and tired. There are better options nearby for hotels, if everything was not already booked I'd be there, but I am left to finish my sentence at the Senator.

Received a phone call stating I was kicked out of my room only one week because they needed it for evacuees even though I booked over 2 months ago. Translation: “the government pays us three times the rate that we charged you so sorry your shart out of luck. We dont care that you have been a loyal customer with us for years, all we care about is about is making money.” And the excuse the government forced your hand is complete BS. Ill be calling the BBB.
