My wife and I stayed at Hughson Hall for our honeymoon in October and it was fantastic! The hosts were very kind and personable, the house was stunning, and the breakfast was scrumptious! With the Victorian style house, the Victorian/Edwardian/Georgian style furniture, and the incredible customer service on behalf of Deborah and George, one feels like royalty. The bed and breakfast is perfect for romantic getaways, or "staycations" during covid. You do not need to wear a mask while inside a private residence, and you are pampered the whole time. All in all, I would rate it as five stars! My wife and I look forward to coming back!
What a wonderful B&B! Such a lovely property, so much history, I loved all the artefacts around the house. George and Debra were amazing. We had such a lovely night, the bed was so comfortable, our room was clean and decorated beautifully. Morning tea was a lovely start to the day and breakfast It was so delicious I wish I could eat it over and over. I highly recommend staying at Hughson Hall! You won’t regret it
Where do I begin explaining the most beautiful weekend getaway we have been on. This restored victorian home bed and breakfast is comparable to none! We have stayed in many century home bed and breakfasts and Hughson Hall supersedes all. Debra met us outside with a big smile and helped us with our luggage. My husband and myself are very interested in the history at the places we stay and asked a lot of questions to which she was most gracious and happy to answer. She gave us a tour and history (and renovation history) of the grounds then we made our way inside to do the same. I was thankful for the time she spent with us giving us a tour, which was probably around an hour. We so appreciated her taking the time to do that. She is such a sweet woman and ensured we had everything we needed. Her husband George is equally as sweet! You won't find better hosts than the Mackies. In addition, (which I did not know at the time), my husband asked Deb if champagne and chocolate strawberries could be in the room upon arrival. It was an immediate yes from Deb. Again, incredible hosts. Now onto the house and room! When you walk through it's grand entrance, Hughson Hall has stollen your heart (if it didn't already from pulling into the drive way!). Your eyes are first drawn to the most incredible staircase you have ever seen. A brilliant red carpet flows up it and wraps around to the upper hall. A large stain glass original window on the stair landing adds a delicacy to the bold elegance of the carpet colour. There are antiquities everywhere you look. Original plaster, ceiling medallions, trim and doors are in tact and stunning, and you truly feel you are in a different century. Our room, which I believe was called the East Wing Room, was grand and spacious. Reds, browns and golds shower the room with sophistication and the fire place brings an added warmth. There are many windows in the room which allow in so much light. The bathroom is very beautiful as well. The decor includes a wall of early 1900s hats, photos and a beautiful festival costume on display. The room was extremely clean and comfortable providing both heating and cooling options to which guests can control. An abundance of toiletries were provided including extra towels, above the norm. There was a television with satellite as well. Moving to breakfast! FIRST OF ALL. The hosts bring up coffee and juices on a tray at 8am (discussed upon arrival). You have a full hour to enjoy that in your room (or the parlour downstairs)! At 9am you head down that staircase (ughhhh the staircase <3) and head into the dining room which is most beautifully lit by an antique chandelier to which Deb restored, and other victorian lamps lit around the room. The dining room itself has a fireplace and beautiful plaster antique mirror above it to show off the opposing parlour. The breakfast was three courses with the perfect amount of time in between. This breakfast was by far the best breakfast we have EVER had and that is no exaggeration. Every item is hand made, baked or cooked. George bakes all of his own pastry and there were so many unique items on the menu! The first course was actually refilled after we consumed it all (it was that good)! Also the tablescape was on point! I could go on, but I won't. Deb and George we will be back!!!!…
We stayed at this beautiful bed and breakfast for our belated 25th anniversary! We could not have asked for a better getaway! From the second we arrived, Debra and George made us feel so welcome! We had a beautiful afternoon on the private balcony enjoying the wine and cheese/ crackers /meat/olives tray they presented to us. We enjoyed a dinner out a wonderful restaurant they recommended and then came back to a lovely turn down service and chocolates on our pillows! The next morning we had a beautiful tray of tea and coffee and juices brought to our room before eating the most incredible 3 course brunch that consisted of amazing scones, fresh crepes and fruit and then duck, eggs Benedict and fresh vegetables, The table was prepared so beautifully with china, crystal and fresh flowers! We felt like we stayed in a castle! My only regret was not booking 2 nights! We also had a pantry stocked with tea, coffee, refreshments, snacks and fresh cookies!! We will definitely be back! Debra and George are such lovely people. We loved chatting with them and hearing about the history of the home. The entire home is so gorgeous. It is filled with antiques. The property itself is a showstopper with stunning gardens! You won't regret staying at this beautiful retreat! We can't wait to go back! Thank you so much Debra and George! You two are the best hosts ever!…
My wife and I stayed here for one night to celebrate our anniversary in early August 2020 ... and we were only the second couple to stay this season, sadly. Without the festival, Stratford is almost a ghost town. Debra and George were outstanding hosts, and made our stay one of the most memorable B&Bs in our 40 years of marriage! George treated us to a tour of the house and its history, and a glass of wine and snacks on the balcony just after we arrived. The house has been beautifully restored, has a lot of history that George and Debra will be happy to tell you about. They only have two "rooms" - the East Wing and the West Wing, and both are superb. The 3-course breakfast (in what was at one time in its history Christopher Plummer's room!) was to die for - calling it smoked salmon with eggs Benedict does not begin to do it justice! Home-made pastries, followed by spectacularly beautiful to look at crepe, then the smoked salmon, eggs benny and trimmings. We had a wake up coffee at 8am and breakfast at 9.00, and there was a "butler's pantry": next to our room with a fridge and cold drinks, fresh coffee and snacks which we could access at any time. A truly memorable stay, which we would love to repeat sometime. Thank you, George and Debra, for a wonderful visit!…
