Detailed Reviews
We have stayed here multiple times in the past. The room was clean, as expected. They have fixed the issues with the TV and the WiFi. Both worked flawlessly. The staff is friendly and helpful. We had to stay another night because of the freezing rain and ice. The issue we had was with the icy driveway and parking lot both before and after the ice storm. The snow removal company was slow to arrive so a staff member did shovel snow on the walkways in front of the rooms. He also spread salt on the walkways and around our vehicle so we could safely get in and out.

Chose this motel based on its location, cleanliness, and outdoor space. I was driving from Toronto and wanted an uncomplicated place where I could avoid the city traffic, and sit outside with friends. This place was great! It’s only a ten-minute (easy) drive from the city and had a large lawn with trees and comfortable chairs. The room itself was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I normally prefer a room without carpeting - but was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the furnishings. The friendly owner is clearly taking extra precautions to make his guests welcome, and safe. It was much appreciated, and I loved having a room I could drive right up to, without sacrificing ‘hotel’ quality. Pets are also welcome! Highly recommended.

Good Morning Frontseatdriver, Thank you for being an avid Tripadvisor contributor and for choosing the Rideau Heights Inn. I am glad you able to enjoy our country setting, in the city! The Adirondack chairs under the trees are the perfect spot for a morning coffee or to relax after your day. Thank you again for staying with us and you detailed review. We hope to see you the next time you are in Ottawa!

You're going to think I'm crazy, but the #1 thing I love about this Inn is that there is NO dirty, sloppy grouting in the bathroom areas. I travel a lot, but I can't afford fancy hotels. 90% of the budget hotels I stay at have dirty, sloppy grout, which is most often a sign that there are many other dirty, sloppy aspects to the place: thin worn out towels, plumbing and electrical "fixes" that are not to code and dangerous, dirty common areas, chemical breakfasts, thin walls just to name a few. But NOT at Rideau Heights Inn - clean, unnoticeable grout also means you get a sparkling clean room, plumbing that works, really friendly service, fresh muffins, cereal and good coffee for breakfast, fluffy towels and really comfy kingsize bed for a good (and quiet) night's sleep. The location is perfect: the airport, downtown or Carleton University are all less than 15 minutes away. You can walk to the river. Is there anything lacking? Well, I would have liked a microwave in my room and a luggage stand (the rooms are spacious enough to accommodate both), but they let you use the office microwave anytime and, well, for a really nice motel at a bargain price, I guess I can put by suitcase on the floor.

I was a little hesitant traveling during this time but decided to plan a little getaway. We stayed at the Rideau Heights Inn and it was great. The staff were helpful and answered all my questions prior to arrival and explained all of the precautions they are taking. You can park right in front of your room so there are no lobbies, elevators, hallways to navigate. You go directly from your car to your room. No unnecessary contact with surfaces or people. We also enjoyed being able to sit outside during these hot summer nights.

The room was very comfortable and spacious. They had the typical amenities (TV, Coffee machine, etc) but their WiFi was down the entire time (apparently others complained as well). In this day and age, every guest has at least one device (some 2 or 3). I was able to use the data on my phone and tether to my laptop so it wasn’t a major inconvenience. I would stay there again despite the Wifi issue..

I found this hotel by fluke. They gave me an AMAZING rate. I'm a fairly picky person, I was concerned prior to arrival that this property may not be up to my standards. When I arrived, I was greeted with a friendly smile at the desk. Upon entering the room I was impressed. So clean. Didn't smell like stale old cigarette like MANY non smoking hotels still do (i travel, a lot.). There was no old musty smells. Nothing. It was wonderful. Beds were comfy. My only real complaints and they're not even that really, was that the heat/ac unit doesn't know when to shut off on its own, and the bathroom fan was extremely annoying. Other than that I loved my stay so much I have booked the motel twice more for future visits to the capital. It's in a very accessible area, anything you need is a very close proximity. The muffins in the lobby in the morning are moist and fluffy. It's homey and quaint. Felt almost like I was cottaging, but inside the city. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. I cannot wait for my next visit! See you soon, and thank you for the incredible hospitality.

The staff was excellent and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The COVID protocols in place made us feel safe without inconveniencing us. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay. It’s location is close to many locations so it’s great for tourists.

I have stayed at this Inn numerous times over the past several years. I have not once been disappointed. The rooms are immaculate, throughly cleaned and pleasant. The front desk staff greet me with a smile and provide, within their capabilities, everything I need for a pleasant stay. The price is reasonable. Anyone searching for a five star motel, without the bells and whistles, would agree with my 5 star rating. Any disappointments would probably be because they are looking for more amenities. The inn offers a continental style breakfast - also a bonus in this price range.

Really easy late night check in, lots of parking for the trailer, and a very clean room. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful, and further interactions with the staff were 100% positive.
Thanks very much - a very good stay for those traveling through Ottawa with purpose (i.e. moving).

I stayed here for several months as a result of my new build being delayed at the last minute. The motel is very clean and quiet. In the summer months you can take advantage of its almost park like setting which is very relaxing. The staff are very professional. Its a motel but doesn't really feel like a "motel" and staying here is much better than staying in a crowded name brand chain in my opinion. If your looking for a place to stay in Ottawa make sure to give this place a look.

I'd say no... unless you're prepared for a good, long hike! We didn't go to the places you're inquiring about (the one day we were there, we spent our time across the River in Gatineau) but I would say that downtown would be about a 15-20 minute drive in good driving conditions along the fastest route.
I understand your policies but it is still misleading when I search for 'pet friendly' hotels and your hotel comes up when it is pretty exclusively 'pet friendly' just for some. In terms of the fine print, you don't come across it when booking through a 3rd party vendor site. Just adds more wasted time to my searching for an appropriate hotel. Thanks.
Good Morning elpealto,
Thank you for your interest in the Rideau Heights Inn. We do not have a pool, however we have a large shaded area with 100 year old trees and Adirondack chairs to enjoy your day. The closest intersection is Prince of Wales and Hunt Club. It is a very safe, quiet area that has many restaurants a short drive from the Inn. I would not recommend walking, the main roads are quite busy. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
