We stayed on this beautiful, elegant castle-like hotel for 2 nights with my family. We had so much fun as it was very close to almost all tourist spot in Ottawa. Complimentary breakfast was amazing, though we weren’t able to have our request for a high chair for our toddler. Otherwise, everything was exceptional. The room was very clean as well.

We have just returned from Ottawa, and the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, where we last stayed in July 2021, when FCL had just opened following a pandemic closure. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that there had been a sea change since then...and we suspect that new-as-of-November-2021 GM, Genevieve Dumas, is responsible. Alex at valet parking welcomed us with a smile and an efficient handover, despite the fact that we arrived at prime check in time. Mikaela - an intern! - was the first to greet us as we checked in and she was so friendly and so engaged and engaging (we witnessed this when at the desk or in the lobby throughout the stay - a breath of fresh air). When I enquired re. a gold member room upgrade (from the already booked Junior Suite), she immediately looked at stock and then asked Christian (front desk manager?) for advice. Christian came over and not only praised Mikaela for her proactive suggestion of room (love when managers ensure that the team members are commended), but made us feel very welcome as well (Christian had been very helpful last July when our stay was so surprisingly disappointing, and he had tried to make things right at the time). The room we were given - a stunningly situated suite in the west tower with perfect views of the Parliament Buildings, and the city beyond from the multiple windows - was PERFECT! Spacious, well appointed, with a separate living room, desk with a view, comfortable bathroom and multiple closets; 340 is a lovely space to stay in. During our wanders through the lobby, I was fortunate enough to meet Ms. Dumas, along with Stewart, FCL's canine ambassador, and the lovely Bello, newly-retired ambassador from Chateau Montebello (where we stayed last summer - love, love, love). This was when I realised who was responsible for the culture shift - Ms. Dumas was as welcoming and smiling as her team, and made me feel truly welcome, even as she and her companions headed out at the end of the day. That evening we enjoyed drinks at Zoe's where Fabiola and Katie made us feel so welcome (while I stuck to simple Bailey's, our son enjoyed the theatre and taste of the Statesman - as recommended by Katie). This morning, after seeing room attendant Ray and his lovely smile in the halls, we visited Wilfred's at 8am for a lovely and relaxing breakfast, with a team of hosts and staff who were as friendly and helpful as their desk counterparts (but clearly I had not had my morning coffee when I entered as I cannot recall names: female host's name started with A, male with M I believe, and our waitstaff with an R - terrible, apologies, as they really made for a lovely breakfast experience). As we left, we once again ran in to Ms. Dumas, Stewart and Bello - and her first words were "oh, look who it is" to the dogs - a true host who made us feel as if we were visiting friends - what incredible skill, and clearly recognised by the Fairmont leadership! At check out, Matthew was professional and friendly, while being so efficient with the process, while the lovely host in the lobby was quick to point us to smiling Gordon at valet, whose team had our car out within minutes of requesting it. I realise that I have been verbose, but we truly cannot get over how much Ms. Dumas' influence (which we saw at Montebello last summer) has so positively influenced the team at the Chateau Laurier. This experience will bring us back, and we encourage others to book with Fairmont Chateau Laurier when coming to Ottawa.

Fairmont Ottawa is quite overrated and I have never been a fan, I stayed on occasion in the past but found the value for the money poor so I usually stay elsewhere in Ottawa such as Andaz hotel which treats me great. However this time I wanted to give Fairmont another chance after a hiatus of a few years and my conclusion remains the same: Fairmont is the most expensive hotel in Ottawa but it does not deliver based on Fairmont standards worldwide, in my opinion it's a bottom tier Fairmont either by comparing to other Canadian Fairmonts or compared to some international properties where I stayed before. Upon check-in I received an upgrade to a Deluxe room as Accor Diamond as suites were not available. In fact I was offered a suite but it would not be available for another couple of hours so I chose the lesser Deluxe room because we needed the room immediately for our young daughter to nap. Nonetheless, it was nice to be given the choice for the loyalty program upgrade - this is the proper practice for a luxury hotel. The Deluxe room might not be a suite, but to be honest it was quite nice because it was spacious and had two full bathrooms which was convenient for us. Many hotels' suites don't even have 1.5 bath, let alone 2 full. I don't think all their Deluxe rooms are the same so I suspect they assigned me one of the better ones, the ones I had before we not nearly as nice. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. (1) Breakfast. Fairmont's restaurant is open to outside guests and due to popularity it was full and they turned back many people at the entrance. While we were waiting the first morning I saw perhaps 30 guests being sent away. I guess good for them to be busy, but bad for hotel guests especially those who have breakfast included in their rate. Part of this is the hotel's own doing because there was a backup room which was not being used, perhaps due to lack of staff. We were on a rush so I asked for takeaway boxes as we could not wait to get a table. A manager agreed and brought me 5 empty boxes and a tray. (2) Rude chef. As I started picking food for my boxes the chef came over and told me I am not allowed to take away so I told him to speak to his manager. He then told me I was picking too much food and that 5 boxes was excessive, I mentioned again he should speak to his manager because he's the one who brought this to me - I did not choose the number of boxes. The chef would not relent, he said he is the manager! I was puzzled and tried to find the manager who spoke to me but he was not in sight at that time. I continued to fill the boxes and the chef kept arguing with me at the buffet that I am not allowed to take food away to my room. He was essentially treating me as if I was a thief who wanted to get food out of the restaurant. Finally the manager arrived and told the chef to quiet down, they went away to talk in a corner and when the chef came back he was very upset and slammed a stack of plates on the counter behind the buffet in front of various guests. (3). The parking situation is a huge mess. The hotel has valet parking but guests coming in and out are too numerous at times considering the small driveway of the hotel. One evening cars were backing up in the street and occupying 2 of the 3 lanes waiting to turn in the hotel driveway and creating a traffic jam on the main road which was down to only 1 lane out of 3. It took about 30 minutes to drive the last 10 meters. I had opted for valet to save time instead of parking in a remote lot by myself but I ended up paying more and wasting more time. In the hotel's defense when I mentioned my issues above they gave me a partial credit on my hotel bill which was a nice gesture. Also on the second morning they made a table reservation for us so that we would not miss breakfast again. The buffet + a la carte combo was excellent, better than any other hotel in Ottawa. Nonetheless I do not have such problems at competing hotels in Ottawa such as not getting a table for breakfast or staff being rude or witnessing such an awful parking situation which was so extreme that it should probably require the police's presence on the street to direct traffic and reduce the chaos. Fairmont is the most historical hotel in the city and the location is great, which is reflected in the price. However for my purposes I cannot justify paying a big premium when issues are not minor. To cap a subpar stay, the hotel sneakily charged my credit card after I left for some expenses which were not mine, and my Accor points did not post to my account and I had to request manually after the fact. I will therefore taking another hiatus from this hotel for the foreseeable future.

All around great hotel at a great location. Friendly staff. Historic feel with modern amenities and most importantly clean. I was surprised at how roomy everything felt. Wide hallways. Big room. Fast elevators. I felt I had room to breath rather than the feel some old hotels can be. I was also on awe by the finishes in the place.

We stayed at the Chateau Laurier for just one night, a Saturday night over the Ottawa Marathon Weekend. With the many road closures in the area due to the marathon we were grateful for the hotel’s valet parking. The hotel is situated in a great spot, next door to the parliament buildings and a short walk to ByWard Market where there are many restaurants and shops. We enjoyed snacking on the focaccia bread and cold drinks in the lobby bar. We stayed on the second floor which has lovely carpeting in the corridors and our two rooms were VERY comfortable and felt plush. When we were leaving on Sunday morning housekeeping came down the hall trying to catch us as we had left a pair of sunglasses behind in the room so that was very much appreciated. The only fault I could find is that the water pressure in the shower isn’t super strong as they have a rain shower head and a handheld shower head but the water temperature was very good. This was our second stay at this hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

This evening, May 27th 2023 between 7:00pm-7:30pm, my sister and I experienced unsatisfactory customer service from one individual at the front desk of this hotel. Her name is Rama and she was absolutely awful. As a result of Rama’s very rude, disrespectful behaviour and tone towards us when all we needed was a room key replaced, we will NEVER stay at this hotel again or recommend it. We felt marginalized. We booked this hotel as we thought this was a 4 + star establishment with impeccable customer service but it is not!! When we informed the manager, Christian.B., what Rama did and how terrible she treated us, he came across like we were disturbing him and failed to inspire any confidence in us that he will do anything about our disappointing experience with this person. All-in-all, staying at this hotel was a big disappointment starting with Rama and ending with Christian.B

Probably the coldest meeting rooms ever! Under whelming hotel experience ie., food, room service and status of public washroom. Bottled water was not replenished, cleaning staff ignored do not disturb sign, blow dryer took 40 minutes to deliver. Soap dispensers in public washroom left empty for 2 days.

An excellent stay in a grand old property. There isn't much I didn't enjoy about the Chateau Laurier. The great valet and front desk service, and a room as quiet as a tomb. The property is old and historic, but the gym and pool are in excellent shape. The lobby and dining rooms remain as dramatic as ever. My only issue was a lack of coffee available in the lobby. This would have been appreciated in the morning. The nicest thing that happened was the ability to check in early. We arrived before 1pm in the afternoon, and thought we would park the car and put our luggage in storage, but we were able to check in early. This made our day. Check out was just as easy as check in, with nothing unexpected.

Don’t do it. Waste of your money. Not a luxury hotel. Terrible client service. Very worn room. Everything was broken. Coffee machine. Ice machine. Wanted me to get my own ice from restaurant. Wanted me to order room service when my room coffee machine didn’t work. Waited 45 minutes for coffee to be sent up to room. Everything was bad. I recommend finding a holiday inn, Sheraton or W across the street

Stayed here on the 29th of April for one night. After a long day of travelling and arriving late in the evening, I didn't get a chance to enjoy any of the hotel's restaurants or bars, however, I can comment on the following: - Valet parking was flawless as was the checkin - Was pleasantly surprised with a gift delivered to the room from family members out of province. Thank you to the Chateau for facilitating! - Room was very comfortable as was the view. - Waking up at 3 am due to being on European time, I enjoyed wandering around the ground floor of the hotel while most were asleep: if only the walls could talk. Being able to soak in the environment in peace and quiet is priceless if you ask me. Thanks to the night staff at the front desk for the delicious coffee! - Check out was smooth and I was able to leave our bags for a few hours while we explored the market and surrounding area. I had a small issue after the fact when a few days later I realised I was double billed for a room but when I contacted the hotel it was quickly resolved and the funds were reimbursed within a timely manner. Bottom line is that if you are visiting Downtown Ottawa and want to stay in a great location filled with history you simply must stay at the Chateau.
