Reflecting the confidence, dignity and style of Ottawa, Fairmont Chateau Laurier stands as a testament to this dynamic, thriving city. Located in the heart of Canada's capital next door to the Parliament Buildings, the landmark Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa is a magnificent limestone edifice with turrets and masonry reminiscent of a French chateau.

Spent 4 nights here and could find no fault. We had booked a basic room but got upgraded on arrival. The room had no view but we couldn't complain as it was a lovely big room and bathroom and spotlessly clean. We did not eat in the hotel as there were lots of restaurants around and to be honest we were a bit put off if the cost of items in the mini bar were anything to go by. Hotel is in an excellent location for many tourist attractions and i would not hesitate to recommend

Hotel's Favorite
We have just returned from Ottawa, and the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, where we last stayed in July 2021, when FCL had just opened following a pandemic closure. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that there had been a sea change since then...and we suspect that new-as-of-November-2021 GM, Genevieve Dumas, is responsible. Alex at valet parking welcomed us with a smile and an efficient handover, despite the fact that we arrived at prime check in time. Mikaela - an intern! - was the first to greet us as we checked in and she was so friendly and so engaged and engaging (we witnessed this when at the desk or in the lobby throughout the stay - a breath of fresh air). When I enquired re. a gold member room upgrade (from the already booked Junior Suite), she immediately looked at stock and then asked Christian (front desk manager?) for advice. Christian came over and not only praised Mikaela for her proactive suggestion of room (love when managers ensure that the team members are commended), but made us feel very welcome as well (Christian had been very helpful last July when our stay was so surprisingly disappointing, and he had tried to make things right at the time). The room we were given - a stunningly situated suite in the west tower with perfect views of the Parliament Buildings, and the city beyond from the multiple windows - was PERFECT! Spacious, well appointed, with a separate living room, desk with a view, comfortable bathroom and multiple closets; 340 is a lovely space to stay in. During our wanders through the lobby, I was fortunate enough to meet Ms. Dumas, along with Stewart, FCL's canine ambassador, and the lovely Bello, newly-retired ambassador from Chateau Montebello (where we stayed last summer - love, love, love). This was when I realised who was responsible for the culture shift - Ms. Dumas was as welcoming and smiling as her team, and made me feel truly welcome, even as she and her companions headed out at the end of the day. That evening we enjoyed drinks at Zoe's where Fabiola and Katie made us feel so welcome (while I stuck to simple Bailey's, our son enjoyed the theatre and taste of the Statesman - as recommended by Katie). This morning, after seeing room attendant Ray and his lovely smile in the halls, we visited Wilfred's at 8am for a lovely and relaxing breakfast, with a team of hosts and staff who were as friendly and helpful as their desk counterparts (but clearly I had not had my morning coffee when I entered as I cannot recall names: female host's name started with A, male with M I believe, and our waitstaff with an R - terrible, apologies, as they really made for a lovely breakfast experience). As we left, we once again ran in to Ms. Dumas, Stewart and Bello - and her first words were "oh, look who it is" to the dogs - a true host who made us feel as if we were visiting friends - what incredible skill, and clearly recognised by the Fairmont leadership! At check out, Matthew was professional and friendly, while being so efficient with the process, while the lovely host in the lobby was quick to point us to smiling Gordon at valet, whose team had our car out within minutes of requesting it. I realise that I have been verbose, but we truly cannot get over how much Ms. Dumas' influence (which we saw at Montebello last summer) has so positively influenced the team at the Chateau Laurier. This experience will bring us back, and we encourage others to book with Fairmont Chateau Laurier when coming to Ottawa.

For decades, I've embraced staying at the Chateau Laurier hotel; it's been one of my favourite hotels in the world and I've worked in 35 countries. What happened to this place? My husband and I checked in and were shocked to find the place not in great repair (faucet taps askew, toilets rocking) and worst of all was the food served in what was once the establishment Zoe's restaurant. An awful cheese plate (served with the same condiments as the meat tray...who eats mustard with their cheese, two types of cheese instead of three) and very mediocre truffle French fries. This isn't some truck stop=this is the Chateau Laurier. What happened? COVID is no excuse. We've stayed at and eaten at Fairmont hotels in lots of places--very recently in Montreal and Seattle and Banff. They were special. This is NOT special.

Would stay here again but would not eat at The Terrace Restaurant. Had very put service there. The hotel is beautiful and we had a lovely room with a little niche for the desk and a view of the canal.

The Gold Experience at Fairmont hotels is always something special and worth the extra. The Chateau Laurier is a beautiful hotel located central to all that Ottawa has to offer. Comfortable beds in tastefully decorated rooms. The Gold Experience provides breakfast and evening canapes, along with all day refreshments.

I had the opportunity to be a tourist in my own city. As an Ottawa resident, this was an experience I was very much looking forward to. However, I was somewhat disappointed in my stay. The hotel on the outside is absolutely stunning, as is the main lobby area and ground floor of the building. Our room felt less then expected- we thought that staying in such an extravagant hotel, the rooms would match the hype that is staying in the "chateau". We paid more for a room with a parliament view, but the room was much smaller than other rooms of the same value our friends and family had stayed in this summer. It was tiny. The linen was very worn with holes. The decor was not nearly as elaborate as the rest of the hotel. When we called the front desk to question the situation they apologized and promised us a $50.00 discount from the room we paid for. A few hours later my husband and I went to settle this with the front desk and the manager came and denied this call. It seemed unfair. Although my husband and I had a nice weekend away from our everyday lives, I feel our experience at the Chateau Laurier could have been better Sincerely, Emilie Cawood

Great location and a beautiful hotel!! Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our vehicle parked for the duration of our stay and were able to walk everywhere. Lots of dining options around if you didn’t want to eat at the hotel.

We stayed at Le chateau after spending a day at the LPGA and having to return the next morning in Kanata for our grandchildrens birthday. It is so beautifull, the service is always excellent, the rooms are "impecable" like always. What about the breakfast buffet, there is no words to discribe the freshness of all the food. The services, eather the room, the buffet, the checkin and check out is flawless like always.

We used to love this premier hotel. It has many great attributes. We stayed there many times in the past 20 years. Unfortunately, things have changed. Our last stay was on very warm weekend in September 2022. We were there for a wedding in one of their banquet halls. The air conditioning in the hall was undersized. Conditions were very hot - humid and unbearable. None of the men could wear their suit jackets. Shirts were soaked in sweat. Some guests changed to shorts and a T-shirt (it was very formal wedding). Many guests abandoned the wedding immediately after the meal because they could not take the heat anymore. Unfortunately, the rooms were no better. It was very hot. The air conditioning was set to 16 deg C. It could not get below 27 deg C. I could not sleep. I tried to turn on the TV, but it did not work. I tried to watch on my laptop, was unwilling to pay $30 to $40/day for WI-fi (yes you must pay EXTRA for WI-fi -who does that?). The next day, we waited 20minutes to checkout because they were understaffed. Everybody in front of us complained. Staff simply smiled, apologized, then charged full price. We then waited another 25 minutes for staff to retrieve our vehicle from their parking facilities. We were not permitted to get it ourselves. They charge $55/day for this crappy service. I have never paid so much for so little. Stay away from this place.

I was at a conference at a nearby hotel. I stayed here as it looked so amazing, it was lovely, with all of the facilities as good as you can get. I would probably spend the extra money for the view next time though, as I felt like my city view on level 1 was a bit less glamorous.
