Niagara-on-the-Lake is an almost impossibly pretty small town with boatloads of charm. Unfortunately, that charm comes at a cost for visitors as the hotel prices are all comparatively high. We've stayed in this town while visiting the Shaw Festival on and off over the last 20 years. By this time, we have stayed at roughly a half dozen of the hotels, so we have a pretty good sense of what is available. There are several nice hotels, but for the most part they cost more than you might otherwise expect. You are paying a premium for being in this nice small town - just accept it. The Oban Inn is on the northern end of town only a few hundred feet from the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. It is only a 5-minute walk to the town central shopping area and maybe 15 miles to the Festival Theatre. It is in a very nice neighborhood, so it's pleasant to walk around and the walk to enjoy the historic housing. There are several parks along the lake, the river, and in town, so this is a particularly nice location on a nice day. There is convenient parking out front. There are two parts to the inn and we have stayed in both of them. It is an attractive building with a colorful garden out front. We did not take advantage of the spa. The rooms are of different sizes. Ours was on the small side and had no desk-type area, which we would have appreciated. Still, it had nice touches like wide molding and a very nice bathroom. It was just fine for a stay of a couple of nights to see shows, but would have been a little tight for a longer stay. This is a good choice if you are in Niagara-on-the-Lake and simply want to stay in a nice old inn to enjoy the atmosphere.

We had a one night stay in the Blue Room. The service was first rate, Hazel at the front desk was very helpful. The room was beautiful, large and luxurious. The Spa, Dining area and decor is elegant. We will be returning!

We stayed at the Oban Inn for one night in the Oban House (be mindful this is a building next door to the main inn so If you book this you have to lug your bags next door and there is no elevator, which wasn’t a deal beaker for us but could be for some). We enjoyed our room and comfy linens and bed. It is a bit dated but well kept and the food and service From the restaurant were amazing. We are looking forward to returning next year again and will try the main inn!

My wife and I recently (9/14-18/22) went to the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake and on the advice of good friends, booked a reservation at The Oban Inn (160 Front Street, N-o-t-Lake). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Inn---and we will return there next Spring! Mike and Donna at the reservations desk were VERY helpful, no matter how many times I called with questions. They were cheerful, pleasant and clear. Hazel was especially delightful to talk to. She should get a bonus for her congeniality! Sue and Sarah were also very helpful. We LOVED the breakfast selections: I preferred the smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives; my wife enjoyed her eggs prepared to order. And the coffee was superb! Rebecca was a lovely waitperson! She was efficient, charming and clearly enjoyed her job. Steve, another server, was the warmest, most wonderful hotel employee I have ever met. (Pre-Covid my wife and I have been to many inns in the USA and around the world!). Steve should run a school for making guests comfortable, loving their breakfasts and receiving advice on the highlights of the town. He did this seamlessly---while asking about anything he could bring us to help us enjoy our meal. My life should run as well as he took pride in his job! Our rooms were wonderful: spacious, well-furnished and immaculate. I was celebrating my 80th birthday. I have mobility issues and need a walker (or canes) to get around. The staff made sure that I was ALWAYS able to navigate in our room, the lobby and the ramp leading to our car. I could go on for several pages extolling the virtues of The Oban Inn. We will come back to this Inn for, hopefully, many more vacations in Canada! It is TRULY a boutique hotel!

The room was very small with no special features. We have travelled a lot and stayed in many places and felt this room was grossly overpriced for what we got. This is the first time I have ever written a review . This space was a let down and I wouldn't recommend the Deluxe twin bed room. Maybe other rooms are nice but not the one we got. Awful.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Oban Inn on our 40th anniversary. Overall I was disappointed with the experience. We were looking forward to returning since we had also stayed there on our first anniversary in 1982. In fact, when I made our reservation, I shared a photo of the outside of the Inn that we took in 1982. I thought it was an interesting photo that showed the full front of Inn (before the fire) with several vintage cars in sight. The photo (like our 40th anniversary) was never acknowledged. We arrived and found the staff quite unfriendly. A woman with long blonde hair at the front desk continued to talk to her colleague about an issue she was having with her computer while we stood at the front desk waiting to be served. We were given instructions to phone the front desk to confirm the time for breakfast reservations. However, when we called the front desk (multiple times) we couldn't get anyone to answer. Strange thing though...when we dialed the line marked "Spa Reservations" (same desk manned by the same staff) it was answered right away. Hmmmmm. Thankfully we only ate breakfast in the restaurant. The fruit bowl consisted of 2 red grapes, 2 large (too large to eat without cutting) pieces of melon, and 2 large rectangular pieces of watermelon (rind included). The hash browns were the small diced variety (i.e., think McCains frozen hash browns). Toast was served with a one inch square pad of hard butter siiting in the middle of the bread. Serving staff were clearly mentored by the front desk staff i.e., not friendly AT ALL. I will say the room was very nice and Niagara on the Lake was lovely. We saw a play at the Festival Theatre and ate dinner at a restaurant on Queen St. We salvaged a nice anniversary vacation despite the unfortunate experiences at The Oban Inn.

Rude front staff, poorly maintained and extremely dirty pool and balconies filled with webs and weeds....It's sad to say but this beautiful property is poorly maintained and could be a 2* as the whirlpool has been abandoned and stinks, the pool is extremely dirty and hasn't been cleaned for probably weeks, worms etc.... not good.

we stayed in the Oban suite which was incredibly elegant and beautiful. It had the bedroom, a huge modern bathroom and its own library complete with fireplace. Truly stunning. The massage with Daniel was superb and so relaxing. All of the meals were excellent, Alexa in the dining room was lovely and a lot of fun. All of the staff couldn't have been friendlier. It is a beautiful property with just a short walk into the quant little town.

What a delightful spot! Convenient location to walk to shops and restaurants. A gorgeous old inn with fabulous gardens. Our room (the blue room) was charming with a queen-size bed and sitting area with a gas fireplace (can't wait to return in cool weather). Spacious and well-appointed bathroom. There is a mini-fridge and Keurig in the room. All employees we came into contact with were very friendly. We opted for the breakfast package. I had eggs Benedict, and my husband had eggs and sausage (the Oban classic). Coffee was good and a carafe was placed adjacent to our table so we could refill as desired. The home fries were delightfully crispy.

My wife and I were in Niagara-on-the-Lake for just one night for a Saturday wedding held at a local winery. Over the years we have stayed at the Oban a number of times but this is the first time in recent memory. Booked a deluxe king room in the main inn. Number 3 to be precise. Which happens to be located right opposite the elevator. I've travelled enough to know that isn't a prime location as there will be extra noise from people coming and going. If you are spending $405 plus 52.65 harmonized sales tax that room is perhaps not value for money. Moving along to the room itself. It was fine, but not outstanding. No where to sit really as the chairs are located up against the wall flanking the tv and the desk is cramped space to one side of the bed. But it's one night right? Neither here nor there. The bed was comfortable but with the a/c noisily cycling on and off sleep was a little elusive. Our accommodation package included breakfast. Well as it turned out, part of breakfast. So here's the thing. The eggs benedict was good, the blueberry pancakes were fine. Did we want tea, coffee, juice? Of course we did. I left the serving staff a good tip because they were pleasant and personable compared to the front desk staff who were basically invisible. Until it came time to check out and hit the road. But wait a second there is an extra charge on the bill. For two juices consumed at breakfast. The Oban Inn charges you for juice consumed while you are paying for a breakfast package. Now I have read earlier reviews that mentioned they had to pay for tea and coffee. That policy was apparently revoked after the amount of negative feedback received by the Inn for their penny pinching exercise while running an inn, spa and restaurant that they portray as upscale and stating they want "to maintain a high level of guest service". Charging for juice at breakfast is bad public relations, bad image management and it leaves the consumer, the client, the valued guest feeling a little demeaned. Raise your room rates, charge more for breakfast but do not ever levy additional charges when you are offering a 'package'. I did email the Inn asking for comment from them but with two days and counting all I have received from the Oban is resounding silence. It's funny how decisions can turn on little things sometimes. Would I stay at the Oban again? I think I would look for alternatives. Funny how that works.
