Detailed Reviews

Stayed in June 2020 during the pandemic lockdown.
This is an older review, but still, this hotel stands up after 20 plus years. (my first stay was 1998).
They handled the pandemic very well, breakfast was brought to rooms directly by staff. Lake view King rooms are worth the extra for summer nights.
Love the location of this hotel away from all the action of the main area.

If you need to unwind from the world this is the place. Every aspect of the Oban Inn guides you to a more relaxed and serene space. Originally built in 1824 the modernized boutique Inn has 28 guestrooms and is nestled in an English garden setting. Conveniently located right across the street from Canada's oldest golf course with a great view of Lake Ontario (don't forget to pre-book your tee time!)
Our room came with a wonderful little hideaway balcony which we were able to sneak out in our house coats every morning to enjoy our coffee. I highly recommend to take advantage of their package deals. Our stay included room, spa treatments, 3 course dinner, breakfast, & a "welcome" bottle of wine upon arrival!
We began our stay with the spa treatments - a perfect way to launch into a weekend of extreme relaxation. Although I think my body scrub was more relaxing than my husbands bruise inducing sports massage! (he was happy so who am I to judge)
The restaurant is worth the stay alone. It was impossible to choose from the perfectly designed menu - but I have to say that I will be craving that Duck Confit for years to come!

I have had a voucher for the spa for a couple of years that I could not use due to Covid.
Today I finally used it and I have to say the two treatments I had were amongst the best I’ve ever had. Francine did my body wrap which in itself was divine, but the foot, hand and scalp massages while the wrap was doing it’s work were beautiful. I literally could have gone straight in for another one. Heather did my facial, again gorgeous with a lovely scalp arm and hand massage as well.
Both therapists were absolutely lovely and the spa itself itself is super clean with big comfy couches to sit on between treatments.
Unfortunately the pool wasn’t open but hopefully next time I visit it will be - there will definitely be a next time!

This beautiful hotel was originally built in the early 1800 and rebuild in 1993 due to a fire. The property is just on a quieter part of Niagara on the Lake (NOTL) , within walking distance to the hustle and bustle of NOTL. For what you pay ($385 plus tax) , the a taff was not overly friendly. In fact a little coolish for my liking for such a nice place. Asked for a coffee and the bartender gave me the impression I was interfering with their time. Our friends were having a coffee when we got there and asked for one as well
When I checked in the staff was very quick and adamant, in a very rude fashion, that breakfast was not included. Caught me off guard. Donna, the staff that checked us in, Ignored us and took the person behind us first even though the person behind us told them we were first in line. The awareness of hospitality isn’t there. It is sad that such a lovely hotel has rudeness ingrained in the personality of the people who work there

The only pleasant and professional staff person in the Inn is the Manager, Hazel. The reception staff really need training, need to learn basics of customer service. It is interesting, considering that the waiting staff in the restaurant are all professional, charming, offering amazing experience even when the food might be a bit more sophisticated.
The request sent at the time of the room reservation has not been noticed, and the room offered was a wrong one. The change of the room cost extra - we paid it without complaint. It happened that the toilet got clogged; the Inn receptionist offered the plunger suggesting that we (the customers!) do the work. We did, it took 45 minutes to make the toilet flush. We also cleaned the floor after the work was done. We reported the situation to the Manager. She was very understanding and promised to speak to the staff who did not offer to unclogg the toilet. No compensation for the rather unpleasant experience and the time wasted (one wonders how much is one hour of a plumber work worth) was offered/suggested. At the time of the check-out, the receptionist didn't even ask if we had a good stay, did not suggest we return in the future - very disappointing lack of basic custor service graces.
In the meantime, the waiting staff in the restaurant worked very hard, especially during breakfasts when obviously there were not enough personel, but still the service was kind, pleasant, fast, and efficient. It's hard to unerstand why in the same establishement some services (restaurant) can be run so well, when the other (inn reception) so poorly.
It was our second stay in Oban Inn, we do not anticipate coming for the third time, nor we would reccoment the hotel to any friends.

This was our fifth time staying utilizing the meal package. Our stay was excellent.
Room 15, small but cozy, small points. As it is a small room, remove some of the furniture to open up the space. Mount a larger TV on the wall, and add some places to plug in a USB phone charger. Replace the shower head as it is past life expectancy.
Clean room, great towels and nice bath robes.
Parking was great.
Meal was 5 out of 5. Perfect meal, great service and the crab cakes, Caesar salad and steak are to die for.
The front desk desk mentioned that the fitness center opened @ 0900 hrs, unusual as I have asked them to open for me in the past around 0600 am. I wish to use the tread early, and before breakfast.
Breakfast was also very well done, eggs Benedict and coffee excellent
Love the location and the dinner staff have been around for a few years, staff that stick around normally are invested and care.
We will be back in the spring, great job Oban !!!!

Stayed one night for our 34th anniversary. We booked a deluxe queen room c/w dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning and arrived to find that we had been upgraded to a premium king room (#2) with a balcony which was a nice upgrade. It was also nice to have free parking and the location was excellent. Just far enough away from the busy shopping/restaurant area (5 - 10 mins walk) and close to the golf course and a water front park where many just had a small picnic & watched the boats go by on the river. When we arrived we decided to order breakfast room service the next morning for 9:30am while at the front desk and off we went for an easy afternoon of exploring the area before returning to dinner at 6:30pm. Both of us thought the food was quite good and we had an enjoyable dinner at the Oban Inn.
Little things and attention to detail kind of let this place down. The room had been 'cleaned' and made ready for us with a welcome note left for our arrival. Unfortunately they had the wrong names on the welcome note. The furniture needed dusting as i could write my name in the dust below the TV and above the fireplace. And why the fireplace was turned on I've no idea given the heat/humidity outside. The AC managed to keep the room comfortable despite the warmth coming from the fireplace. We found a 'short & curly' hair on the sink which was a bit gross. There was no small fridge to keep things cold. Our 9:30am scheduled room service breakfast didn't arrive until after i called the front desk at 9:45am asking where our breakfast was and they managed to forget the orange juice we ordered. They also only included 2 packets of sugar for our carafe of coffee. We did eventually eat on the balcony but had to deal with a number of bees / wasps in the area. And as one other reviewer mentioned, we had someone above us on the 3rd floor that sounded like he/she was wearing jack boots. That noise finally ended around 11:30pm but we got to enjoy an encore performance at 3:30am and again just before 8am. Finally (and this is minor but odd) when we checked out no one asked us how our stay was and if everything was satisfactory.
I would give this place 3.75 out of 5 stars if possible on the rating system.

Where do I start,
First impressions very rude and lack of hospitality.
Paid good money to stay at this INN but never again will I be back.
When arrived check in was very rude and very cold.
No direction where our room or other facilities, we had to ask all the questions and even then the two ladies at the front desk were very annoyed.
The best part of all our visit was the included breakfast with the hotel stay, the breakfast was Complementary but we had to pay for the coffee separate… a insulting $3.39 after spending over $500 for a night.

Comfortable room with King Size. Great food and service.
Lack of power points for technology. Complimentary breakfast does not include tea or coffee which threw me. I haven't ever come across this before. Seems like some sort of cost recovery exersize, which when paying over $300 / night is offensive. That being said I will stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel September 1 and 2 and brought my teenage granddaughter to belatedly celebrate her birthday and graduation. I am a Canadian citizen living in Colorado as my husband works for a Canadian company there. Registration was quick and the gentleman was very nice and because we were early he asked housekeeping to prioritize our room. We returned to find a new receptionist named Alison who should not be in the hospitality business. I had initially put down my Denver address and phone and car license information and was surprised that there was no form to complete which would let the hotel know the covid status of a guest. This standard procedure in other hotels. This would have let them know that I was a Canadian citizen lawfully here for over a month and the dates of my completed quarantine. Instead this rude young woman could not get it through her head that yes, I did live at that address and even when I told her I was a Canadian citizen she continued to ask me why I was in Canada. She was indeed harassing me. Finally I firmly told her the CBP border crossing policy which she obviously was unaware of.
We proceeded to our "delux" room where we found only 2 pillows on a king sized bed, very few toiletries in the bathroom and "pump" soap dispensers a la motel 6! With the understandable concern over covid I found the room less than clean with dusty cob webs in the windows. The towels and robes were tired to say the least and there was one set for each of us, which is hardly what you find in a hotel that advertises itself as luxury and in a deluxe room.
But it gets worse. Alison, the rude reception employee who had harassed me earlier, apparently did not make a note on my reception card or alert the next person on duty that I was covid safe and that I had Colorado plates. About 8:30my room phone rang and I had to go through this all again with a more polite employee who had not been alerted to the situation. A guest had reported a Colorado plate in the parking lot!!!
This is not the Inn I stayed in years ago and which I had told my granddaughter was a treat to stay in. I arrived on a Tuesday and luckily called the day before to make a dinner reservation only to find out that Tuesday the restaurant was closed. When we got there both the pool and hot tub were closed which I understand, but none of this information was posted on their website.
All in all I would suggest avoiding the Oban Inn. Their flowers and landscaping are beautiful but you can see that without paying 300 dollars for bad service, no restaurant, lack of training of staff and rooms that are not clean.

Yes, the Oban Inn is a Pet-Friendly hotel. You might have to provide an up-to-date shot record for your pet. They have a variety of rooms with an array of different options.
My wife and I LOVED our vacation in Niagara-on-the-Lake---in large part because the wonderful rooms, service, friendly staff and the easy access to all of the town's offerings.
Enjoy! Best Wishes,
