We booked two separate wedding blocks at the Waterfront Hotel ... once in March 2020 (wedding attempt 1: pre-COVID) and August 2020 (wedding attempt 2). I was so incredibly frustrated with our first experience, and only booked here again because the hotel was walking distance from our second wedding venue. In March, I chose this hotel as it was the closest hotel to Hamilton not affected by the large race going on the same weekend of our original wedding. I was shocked at how unprofessional and uninterested the front desk staff was each time I called; had challenges connecting with the sales dept; and had numerous issues with guests trying to use the booking code online or over the phone, and it not working (I had to repeatedly call the hotel to resolve this). When we cancelled our initial block due to COVID-19, I was happy that the hotel cancelled all booked rooms without penalty. I also swore I would never deal with this hotel again ... until wedding attempt #2 found us down the road, and convenience outweighed my original frustrations. However, I was met with the exact same issues (poor, unprofessional, uninterested customer service and issues with guests using their booking code). On top of that, TWO of my guests rooms were DIRTY when they checked in (one had a beer can left in it, the other had visibly used and dirty sheets). Our room, luckily, was clean, but despite all the issues I had I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. Despite the convenience, stay somewhere else.

I stayed at this hotel two weeks August 20th for 2days on the 6th floor,.. I really like this hotel so on my 2nd visit on September 04th i booked again, I was given room 516 to stayed in.. The minutes I enter the room the room smelled of cigarette smoke and i informed my partner that we should inform the front desk that the room smell very heavily of smoke, but we didn't we decided to turn on the Air conditioner and open the window , to see if smell would go, didn't help but we have great view we decided to stay in room and say nothing.. This come back to bite us I am a non smoker never smoke a cigarette in my life and was accused of smoking in the room ,when I contacted the hotel as I notice they charged me a additional $114 ,I was told that I smoke in the room.. Any one with senses know that that concentrated smell of cigarette takes more than half day for the room to smell like that.. I was informed by the worker who I speak to on Saturday September 5 , I cannot receive my money back I wasn't believe by her that I didn't smoke in the room. Its very ironic that I stayed there on August 20 until the 22 andleft the room fine why would i choose to smoke now in another room.Guest beware of room 516 I become the victim of paying for a chain smoker they have in that room before, and each time they put a guest in they will charge you like they do me, all because they didn't catch the first chain smoker culprit who got away with it, and others have to pay the price for someone habit.. I am truly disappointed in the dishonesty of this hotel Management.. I would never stay at this hotel again, and I learn my lesson, be a complainer when something is not right rather than say nothing.. Marv, Toronto

I stayed here recently for three nights. Customer service at the Waterfront Hotel is non existent. When I checked in at the front desk, Christine told me nothing. Nothing about housekeeping during Covid, nothing about the apparently complimentary bagged breakfast, nothing about the swimming pool. Nada. As it was raining and I was on my own and had my dog with me, I asked if I could get some help with my luggage.Christine said she could help me, but then she would need to leave the front desk. I did it myself. There was only ever one employee working at the front desk. Often no one was there. The person on duty was often in the office behind, but there was no signage to say so. You had to guess everything, because the employees at this property seem incapable of communicating the reality of their business plan during a global pandemic. The restaurant the Bulldog and Beaver, which is attached to this property has very poor unprofessional service. I entered the bar area and I was wearing a mask. The bartender did not know the price of my drink and asked me I wanted tonic or club soda with gin. Gin and club soda? He was then unable to tell me the price and needed to ask two other people. The female server, who was sitting and eating her dinner at the bar was chatting up the bartender and swearing-"Fu--- this". I asked her to watch her language because I could hear her and that she was at work. This seemed to be news to her, although she did apologise. I asked another bar worker to borrow a corkscrew. She regarded me quzzzically. I said"A corkscrew-to open a bottle of wine".I also added that I was a guest of the hotel. She informed me that that is the type of thing that guests normally bring with them. Are you kidding me? The worst aspect of this Fawlty Towers on the lake was the fact that many guests were not social distancing or wearing masks. I asked the person at the desk and she said that they could not enforce that rule. Perhaps not but they could have attempted to inform these guests that they are supposed to wear masks. Instead, they took the cowards'way out and did absolutely nothing. At one point, there were 10 guests sitting together in the lobby-none of them wearing masks. This property provides copies of USA Today and no Canadian newspapers. I We do not live in the USA. We live in Canada. You need to provide copies of Canadian newspapers. There were absolutely no amenities in the room-no notepaper, not even a pen. I did not feel that I was in a hotel, but possibly a locked and unsafe facility in a very pretty environment. The Waterfront Hotel is not a professional establishment. It's staff and that of the Bulldog and Beaver and rude and amateurish. It is not a safe environment during Covid. I shall never return to the Waterfront Hotel.

Hotel seems to be following safety protocols for covid 19. Most guests were wearing masks and social distancing. Check in was smooth, room was ready and appeared clean. I advised the front desk the hand sanitizer on 4th floor was empty. Was disappointed it was not refilled until afternoon the following day. Breakfast offered was boxed style, not satisfying at all. I’d prefer a reduced rate on the hotel and no breakfast as it was not pleasing. We would stay again as the location of this hotel is prime given the reasonable rates.

I booked a lake and garden view one month earlier , I was given a street view with uncomfortable room having some broken things as seen in the attached pictures. The customer service was not good and refuse my request to change my room. I paid high to see the lake and I got way less for what I paid.
