M Wife and I stayed here for one night before taking the ferry to Newfoundland, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, it included a microwave and a fridge as well as a/c, the wifi was good and he manager offered to make us toast and coffee for breakfast even though breakfast is not usually offered until 1 July. It is located a short but pleasant drive to downtown.

We stayed here before taking the Newfoundland ferry a few miles away. Standard motel but a bit seedy. Bare room, but clean. Fair bed, quiet street just off highway (no traffic noise). Very basic buffet breakfast in the office/lobby. The Asian family running this place is doing its best, but service is pretty much nonexistent. We'll pick a different place to stay on our next trip, pay a few extra dollars, and chalk this one up to "nice try, but ...".

We like independent motels when we travel on vacation, and know the risks that come with staying at "mom and pop" businesses. I tend to cut them some slack when reviewing because I think I understand their challenges. This place, however, isn't even trying. We only received complete maid service one out of four days, the property is run down, beyond worn. A few additional problems: The plumbing is horrible. Hot water is by chance and when the neighboring room showers, it sound like they are using yours! The breakfast area is unclean and some of the food is suspect. The dairy creamer in the fridge was actually so sour it wouldn't pour. I truly was afraid to eat most of what was there and we did not return after the first breakfast visit. The door to the lobby is often left open... basic food safety practice is nonexistent. The parking lot is filled with potholes... an excavator suggests something was started, but there was no sign of work being done while we were there. Normally I drive around potholes... I mention these because they are just another example of the lack of pride that exists at this property. The top of the desk was peeling. Almost the entire carpet was stained in our room. We did receive clean towels every day, but trash cans were not emptied and the bed was unmade. Why not complain? For one thing there is almost never anyone in the office even when it is supposedly open. Secondly, I will risk being called racist by pointing out as at least one other reviewer has said communication is next to impossible due to a language barrier. I frankly suspect it is not totally as bad as presented... it's a way of avoiding addressing problems. There is simply no way this business could be operating without someone speaking at least some basic English. The only reason we stayed for the duration was a lack of available rooms elsewhere in the area. In many years of travel, I have only stayed in one place that was worse. If you do decide to stay here, eat the breakfast at your own peril!

This is not anything fancy. It is a decent, inexpensive place to sleep on a long trek when visiting the area. For example we drove from Halifax to Sydney on our way to see Louisbourg. It was our pitstop. Free parking and free breakfast. It does the job and its well located, right off the highway & very close to downtown Sydney.

Attempts have been made to renovate but poorly. Paint on the smoke detector cover and the bathroom door handle. Just laziness to not take them off paint and re-install. The Queen bed has no headboatd and the mattress is extremely soft. The bathroom needs a lot of work - no fan and a 4 ft tub that makes it s shower stall. No coffee or tea amenity in the room or the lobby. The window air conditioner is running on high cool at the coldest setting and can't keep the room cool. I would not recommend this motel.
